Growing Kandy Kush X OG/Fluence SPYDR2i VS Dimlux Dual Full Spectrum//High PPFD grow

Hi there

I just did a few changes in my grow room, introduced CO2 and also bought a couple of Fluence Leds in addition to my 2 Dimlux Lec lights. I 've taken photos for the last 11 days so I will be publishing them in between the next few days until I get up to date.

Dimlux is offering one of the most complete grow systems, their controller and add ons are amazing and the possibilities of scaling and adding lamps and all sorts of sensors and controllers almost have no limit. They deliver 1411 umol/s at 760W

Fluence to me is the biggest game-changer right now, state of the art led technology that delivers a massive 1700 umol/s , that on a 630W fixture is something else. If you add to that the possibilities vertical grow rooms can offer, it makes it the most sought item in grow industry, get ready for a 6 months waiting list on some of the fixtures if you are in EU....and they are not cheap, believe me.

The genetics I chose for this grow/experiment was Gelato, in clone form, but Coronavirus stopped all deliveries for clones. Lucky me, I had a bag of Kandy Kush X OG a Spanish breeder gave me to test last year, so that's what I seeded, I don't remember last time I used seeds it has been years of using clones only.

So, without further a do, lets talk about the room set up:
2 X Fluence SPYDR2i LED
2 X Dimlux Dual Full Spectrum
1 X Techgrow T2 CO2 controller + T4 sensor
1 X 90 L Dehum
1 X AC
4 X Fans
2 X Scrubbers (fan X filter)

I will be growing in 11 Ltrs cloth pots, putting 12 plants X Meter under the Dimlux lights, and 15 plants X 1,20 Msq. But before going to the 11-liter pots I will transplant first to 1,5-liter pots

And it all started here:

I kept the seeds in water for around 15 hours, what you see in the plate is how they show roots after that time.... 24 hours later 100% of the seeds sprouted in the plates with wet cloths

Next step is to put the seeds in the Monkey Klones tray, this product showed up last year in Spain, and in that time it has become the number 1 product for seed and clone first stage.

picture.php

Monkey Klone comes with Coco and Sphagnum peats, a very small amount of NPK, Iron and Calcium Carbonate.
The only problem I find is that this is a product that was thought for clones, and its density makes you have to work with a very small metal spoon to slowly carve it, that way the plug gets airier and its easier to plant the seed, asides the seed will be way looser to be able to push itself above the ground.

Once planted, the tray fits perfect on a dome.

picture.php

Always remember to plant your seed with the root pointing down and letting the seed above it

Since the Monkey Klone trays do bring some king of food, I watered the seeds everyday with 2ml of tap water, yes i am lucky i live in a city where the water comes out perfect for growing from the tap.

Day 1:not even 24 hours hours after planting seeds

EC: 0,0
PH: 5,7
Temp: 24ºC
Hum: 75%
CO2: 400 ppm
PPF: 300 umol/s

picture.php

It is important not to overwater, so the seed is wet but doesent find much resistance pushing up, 2 ml is more than enough for my temp and RH settings

Day 2:

EC: 0,0
PH: 5,7
Temp: 24ºC
Hum: 65/75%
CO2: 400 ppm
PPF: 300 umol/s

Lights are kept at 6" from the top of the plants, to be able to do this I am using a Dimmer, I wouldn't recommend using Fluence SPYDR fixtures without it, it will force you to lift the lights or you will bur the plants, but lifting the lights at the same time could stretch your seedlings. Best buying one, they are not expensive. It took me a while to find a decent Dimmer in EU as the Fluence one is impossible to get and after an email with Fluence they confirmed it will not be available in Europe.

What I did kind of wrong is that my light controller has a bypass that has it on 24h, and it was on, so as a result, I am keeping my plants on a 24h Veg cycle, at least for now....any advice on how to bring it down to 18/6? should I?

picture.php

It´s my first time using CO2 and it does bring a lot of new knowledge using a good controller.
I am having a kind of situation, during day time I am keeping levels at 400/450 no problem, but using an extraction fan in the room and keeping my house windows open, my place is small. The problem is that room next to my grow is my sitting room/bedroom, we are in confinement in Spain due to Coronavirus so am there spliffing and working online all day, thanks to this I am discovering first hand how much of a CO2 producing machines we are. I wasn't aware it was that bad...it gets to 560/600 ppm by me been next door easy to 700/750 ppm, not worried about it, cheap CO2 also haven't use the bottled CO2 since I started, and although those levels are still low, I would rather have those levels next week that I will be looking at having 800ppm CO2 in the room.

Day 3

EC: 0,0
PH: 5,8
Temp: 24ºC
Hum: 65/75%
CO2: 400/600 ppm( depending how far I am from the room )
PPF: 300 umol/s

One of the things am noticing using LED and that it is way easier to fix good room parameters, so far no problems just by using the dome and keeping the lights at 6" or 16 cm

Plants are pushing nicely almost 100% success rate, and i can see the tips already of the ones that still not showing in the photo

picture.php

Still just giving them 2ml of 0,0 EC water every 24h

Day 6:Something is off,i am not sure what

Day 6

EC: 0,0
PH: 5,8
RH: 45/55%
Temp: 26/28???
CO2: 400/600 ppm
PPF: 300 umol/s

That day the temp was higher, RH down, checked the thermometer gave a max of 28º. Temp outside was a bit higher, but not that much. Switched on the AC unit and left it like that, but you could see the plants being not happy

picture.php

I also checked how the roots was going, not bad at all for the days this has grow, then I remembered they were on a 24h cycle, also it could bebecause the use of the Fluence LEDS? or good genetics?

Day 7: I almost fried them

Day 7: I almost fried them

Day 7

EC: 0,0
PH: 5,8
RH: 35/45
Temp 28/30ºC????
CO2: 400/600
PPF: 1020 umol/s TOTAL ACCIDENT

As I explained in my last post, the plants were not looking good. Temp and RH were off, and couldnt see what was the problem.

Following day, as in day 7, walked in the room and the Temp was at 30º, RH down and suddenly realized those lights were to bright. Let me introduce you the only dimmer i have found for Fluence fixtures in Europe

picture.php

It is an excellent dimmer very accurate, but, extremelly sensitive, you can move that knob by looking at it, somehow i walked beside were it was and for two days I was running around like headless chicken not knowing what was happening to my plants, the dial was at 60% when I found out, that is 1000 umol/s

picture.php

As you can see, they were not happy

picture.php

To help them a bit with the struggle I decided to add a small bit, up to 0,2 EC, of AN B52. I had planned to start transplanting to 1,5 liter pots soon, but this pushed me back a couple of days

EC: 0,2 (only B52 added)
PH: 5,8
RH: 65/75%
Temp: 24ºC
CO2: 400/500 ppm
PPF: 300 umol/s

After two days of to much PPF, heat and low RH here they are after one day. Decided to add some B52, enough to bring the EC up to 0,2

Already looking better and almost ready for the first transplant to 1,5 litr pots

Last day under the dome, tomorow will be transplanting to a 1,5 liter pots.

I emailed the dimmers makers, told them about the over sensitivity issue and the problems I had, he recommend using one of these to be sure of the PPF I was dialing. I must say am way less worried now, and it was cheap to get it via amazon

PH: 5,8
RH: 65/75%
Temp: 24ºC
CO2; 400/600 ppm
PPF: 300 umol/s

Lets start with some beautiful roots.Looks like the 24h Veg cycle I have them on helps with faster development?

I am using a very tiny amount of Mykos, will use it again more generously in a couple of weeks once I trasplant them to the final 11 liter pots.

Lights distance from lights to cannopy is 6" or 16cm, right now am only using a humidifier to bring RH up, no CO2, no AC, but still am using the extractor fan not to allow CO2 build up, my plan for this room is to be 100% sealed, but it does look like for the Veg cicle I will need the extraction

picture.php
picture.php

I also have a fan above lamps right now, blowing very slightly just keeping a good circulation at the top of the room not going yet direct onto the plants and for now also using a humidifier. Am trying to follow also good VPD levels

And finally I am up to date, this last post was from the day before yesterday, from now on will be spacing more the posting

Looks good. They grow very fast.

Hi there Mate
Great to have you here, I was wondering where was everyone gone :hide:.I hadn´t post in IC mag for a long time.
Looking forward to this one, lots of new things to learn from, first timer with Led (well I installed my leds last grow, but i was well into 5th week flower), first time growing with CO2 also

Thanks for droping by:tiphat:

This grow is off to an amazing start! The level of detail and organization of your posts is so refreshing! Im very interested to see how these come out. I ran the Kandy Kush regs from Green House in 2010 and made a couple crosses but still havent ran them. Subbed for sure!
