D's gone hunting.........

Hello everyone, you can call me D. I'm a grower and lover of fine cannabis. To this end I've decided it's time for some new blood in my rooms. Over the last couple years I have collected quite a few packs of seeds from various breeders. Finally finished up my other obligations, so now I have time to start the pheno hunt. Forgot my list of strains at the grow so i'll update that later. Planted around 90 seeds, ended up with 60 something (some of my freebie packs didn't germ). I put 50 of them on an ebb/flow table in 1 gal SRGB's. Vegged for ~ 3 weeks after transplant from beer cups (probably 4 1/2-5 weeks from germ). Flipped to 12/12 on the 15th. Fed h3ad's formula (6ml GH micro + 9ml GH Bloom per gal.) their whole lives. They have been veging under three 600w HPS in non-vented blockbuster reflectors, but I switched the center bulb out for a 400w CMH yesterday. Walls are painted white, and you can see an orca film wall is hung from the ceiling on the left side to ensure minimal light is lost. All plants are being grown in my custom version of chow mix. (coco, coco chips, and floor dry)

Here they are at transplant from 5oz beer cups to 1 gal pots. (I filled the empty spots right after this picture)

And just prior to switching to 12/12

Here's some root porn from one of the males I murdered yesterday. What can I say, they like being flooded 3 times a day

This is the table after removing most/all of the males (few have yet to show sex), and any undesirable growth.

These are the remaining seedlings. I killed a few I didn't like something about. The rest are all strong, just germinated later. (I waited 2 1/2 weeks for the DOA's just hoping they'd pop).

I've also been busy in my rack room, but that might end up being another thread all together.

If you're having any trouble connecting those solenoids with 3/4" PVC on the top, I unscrewed the large ring, and used 1 1/4" PVC, and reduced it to 3/4". :)

Good to see you're still cultivating grade A algae. :D

About time you started a new thread. :moon:

It's actually 1" pvc reduced down to 1/2" ;) and they're all installed and good to go. Thanks for the tip though :tiphat:

Good to see you're still cultivating grade A algae.

You know I only cultivate the finest grade algae. Now if I could just find a market for it.........

About time you started a new thread. :moon:

You're one to talk shit . Last time I checked you've been without a thread longer than me. Besides, I can't continue to steal all of your brilliant ideas if you aren't sharing them, now can I?

Ya know I think algae just follows D around. Knockin on wood I have rarely had much algae. However I gave up on coco because of bugs but i still use Floordry as a media component. It really doesn't look like it hurts anything (the algae) as the plants look just fine.

Welcome doc . Yup algae just loves me. Guessing it probably comes from my tap. Doesn't hurt the plants any unless it's allowed to buildup in layers. Then you end up with dead layers under the living ones, bad bacteria start to grow, and you end up with root rot :moon:. To prevent that issue, every couple months I dump a gallon bottle of bleach in 50 gals of water and flood the table for a few hours. Then scrub out what didn't come loose, and rinse the living fuck out my table and res. Obviously I don't have plants on the table while doing that. I recently read of a simple non chemical way to keep algae from growing in a res. Going to try it out and see what I think before sharing further.

As this spot is remote, only being visited once or twice per week, I have been working on automating most tasks. The room is sealed, heat and humidity are taken care of by a mini split a/c and santa fe max dry dehumidifier. Also toying with water cooling, more on that later. Reses are topped off via gravity and float valves. This just leaves ph. The water in this garden is pretty hard (0.6-0.8 EC) right out of the tap. Because of this it takes a few doses of ph down to get things stable. I use 98% concentration sulfuric acid as ph down. Mainly because my water laughs at that overpriced hydro store shit, but also because cannabis likes a lil sulfur in her diet ;). Because I'm not at the garden that often, ph has been a lingering issue in my quest for dialage. So as usual I looked to the greenhouse industry for a solution. What I came up with is a PH monitor/controller and a 3 GPD peristaltic chemical metering pump for each res in flower. Haven't been able to set them up yet as they didn't send the chemical resistant hose with the pumps, and I haven't had time to bother with it lately anyway.

Oh and another shot I forgot of the manifold leaving the upper res in the vert room.

Not sure if you are using any kind of beneficial bacteria, but it will help control algae growth by competing with it and even breaking down the decaying algae.

Just have to develop a schedule and stick to it. Automation just means you have less scheduled tasks ;)

 I actually debated sending out the word, but then I thought nah, my boys need a lil excitement in their day. Surprise!. I actually have something special to show you buddy.
