Finish drying my bud in the freezer in my kitchen?!?

Hi jpg, not a freezer, just an outdoor shed in the backyard here in Northern Canada. We'll soon be coming into a cold snap. Temps in winter here vary from +5 to -40C. I'll be harvesting in two weeks and temps should vary between -20 to -30 through late Jan and early Feb. I'll try a plant and see how it goes. There should be no disturbance whatsoever.

In all honesty, I'm not sure how that's going to work with out your curing buds being in a "vacuum". This is the part that either I don't fully understand or at the very least cannot articulate to others what is really happening. I believe sublimation needs sub freezing temperatures in addition to being in a vacuum. I wouldn't let that stop you from trying though, all the variables should come into play; temperature, humidity, airflow, etc. so there is really no telling how it will turn out.

If you decide to give it a shot, I know you'll come back and share your experience with us here. I for one will be curious to know how it turns out Take care.

Not that anyone here is as dumb as me, but in case there is:

DO NOT shortcut air drying and go straight to the freezer. Waste of time. You get frozen green bud that thaws to be exactly the same as you put it in. Duh.
Ya, I know...Does not follow directions well. Like love, it just can't be hurried.

I thawed and dried em properly for a week and I'll report back.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to try Twin's suggestion on raising the freezer temp cause Wifey had the nerve to put an ass load of food in my reefer locker.
To add insult to injury, she wouldn't give up her hoard of shirt boxes for me to dry in...
I may have to reassess this whole 25+ year marriage thing. She stubbornly stands in the way of science and progress.
I knew saving those brown paper market bags would come in handy for something.

Yeah, you definitely gotta get them dried to the right moisture level before they go in the freezer! Give it another go, put your buds in the freezer!!! I'm sure both you and the wifey could use the medicine

Do it man, FREEZE YOUR BUDS! If they're a little dry when you get back, you can always rehydrate them to an ideal moisture content. I think freezer curing is a great option to consider for your situation, I don't wanna say perfect but...

In Sicily we tenderize our fresh caught octopus by banging it against a rock. In Greece they tenderize it by putting it in the freezer instead. A very old school grower that I know cures his trees in the freezer too. Nice thread!

Here is a shot of a couple Critical+ nuggets. They were harvested around 10 weeks, hang dried for 4-5 days, and then into the freezer for 3.5 weeks. I removed them from the freezer and, in tupperware, brought the RH from 65% down to 58-60% over a two day period. Now, after about a week of being stored at room temperature, the smell is AMAZING from this pot. It smells and tastes like mens' cologne/cough syrup, not necessarily my favorite but certainly special.

works great on wet vacation weed too! every year i go for a beach week in jamaica, and the beach pot is so wet. usually i dry it by taping buds to the ac vents but the freezer method works better, plus i don't have to worry about the maid saying my room smells like a ganja farm.

Yes it matters. The frost free feature removes moisture from the compartment. A regular freezer does not.

Thanks for the answer. I figure I'm probly a week from putting it into 1/2 freezer and 1/2 jars. I'll update when I know more.

It is true trichomes will fall off if frozen, just like they do at room temperature. The number of trichomes lost is negligible however, especially if you handle your buds carefully and minimally. Go ahead and freeze your properly dried buds if you want a well cured stash, I assure you it works great!

Well I split my last harvest into two. Half in jars and half into freezer. Jars went just as they usally do, no problems. The half that went into the freezer went fine.The only problem I had was telling when it was done drying. In the end it all ended up in Jars. As far as I can tell taste & quality are about the same.
I have another plant that'll be done in a month or so and I'll try this again.

Hey buddy, make sure you don't touch your buds, the trichomes may fall off....Make sure you don't put your product anywhere, trichomes might fall off. Or, hey bud..make sure you ask Harry Potter to levitate your buds, so trichomes don't fall off.
