"'Joy' means that oneself and others together experience joy."*
Together, let's chant and encourage each other.
Together, let's take action and praise each other.
With our discussion meetings as our starting point,
let's engage in a harmoniously shared struggle of our human revolution.

Daisaku Ikeda

The first debt of gratitude in Buddhism is
"the debt of gratitude to be paid to one's father and mother."*
Let's always have a bright smile.
Let's resolutely grow and improve ourselves.
Let's walk along the noble path of being good sons and daughters to our parents.

Daisaku Ikeda

* Gosho, The Four Virtues and the Four Debts of Gratitude, WND-2, pg 636: "Next, the four debts of gratitude of Buddhism are (1) the debt of gratitude to be paid to one's father and mother; (2) the debt of gratitude to be paid to the ruler of the nation; (3) the debt of gratitude to be paid to all living beings; and (4) the debt of gratitude to be paid to the three treasures [The Buddha, the Law and the Order]."

"A change in people’s underlying attitude is essential to revitalising the organisation and promoting kosen-rufu in our communities. When people’s hearts change and they arouse great courage, their voice, expression, behaviour, and spirit also change, and they can transform every aspect of their lives and environment. This is the principle of the oneness of life and its environment.

"The great poet Walt Whitman (1819–92) wrote: 'For so long as the spirit is not changed, any change of appearance is of no avail.'[1]"

"Strengthen your resolve more than ever. Ice is made of water, but it is colder than water. Blue dye comes from indigo, but when something is repeatedly dyed in it, the colour is better than that of the indigo plant. The Lotus Sutra remains the same, but if you repeatedly strengthen your resolve, your colour will be better than that of others, and you will receive more blessings than they do."

Walt Whitman was enlightened and in his work, Song of Myself he lists the seven principles that are very Buddhist. In college we read and deciphered it to my amazement. I told the professor and the class that I had believed these things before reading it. The prof smiled and said, well then you are a hopeless romantic.

Was he Buddhist? He had to be... Nam Myoho Renge Kyo joyfully once again...

Good Morning Universe!!! Share your love and joy today...

Hi Bog,

Walt Whitman was not actually Buddhist, but as one of history's great humanists, his foundation honored SGI President Daisaku Ikeda 2 years ago. I was there to accept the award on behalf of President Ikeda and also read a portion of President Ikeda's poem: "To My Young American Friends" during the acceptance ceremony.

The Walt Whitman Society is composed of an amazing group of people and experiences with them have been very enriching experiences. Our Soka Gakkai International (SGI) organization is so great, that Federally Funded Groups like the Walt Whitman Society are proud to be our friends and vice versa.

I'm not actually an SGI leader anymore, but from Walt Whitman's example/poetry/writings, President Ikeda's Guidance, Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism I am leading the life I choose to develop everyday I'm alive. Our human revolution has brought us a long way! I recall you sending me seeds in Overgrow.com and I thought you used the phrase Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in your signature to sell seeds! Little did I know that 4 years later our friends Babba and PTD would support me in starting my Buddhist practice.

Quite frankly BOG, it was your oils, seeds, bubble and lil glass pipe that once came in the mail, which helped me dive into the online canna-life and eventually become a happy Buddhist chanting daimoku everyday. I will always be grateful for all your efforts and if there is anything I could do for you, your wife, kids (grandkids), just let me know!

Everyone, pardon my hiatus, I've been working harder than ever before, advancing at school, preparing to transfer to another school, completing an arduous certification process and doing all I can to keep chanting as much as possible and supporting other chanters locally! I'm always here if any of you need me and thanks for keeping our movement on ICMAG thriving!

Much love and best wishes to all!

Truly yours,
EasyMyohoDisco!

"Nichiren Daishonin writes: 'Those who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo are themselves the treasure tower, and, likewise, are themselves the Thus Come One Many Treasures' (WND-1, 299).

"None of us can escape who we are. We always stay ourselves. Through chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, however, we can polish our lives, causing them to shine as treasure towers of unsurpassed magnificence and brim with the infinitely noble 'power of the Buddha.'

"The only way to successfully navigate life’s treacherous paths is to forge a strong self that won’t be defeated by any hardship and to cultivate an expansive state of life. That is the purpose of faith directed toward realising our human revolution and transforming our negative karma. Stopgap measures won’t suffice; we must start with earnest prayer, bring forth courage and wisdom, and then make honest and sincere efforts."

"If I remain silent, I may escape persecutions in this lifetime, but in my next life I will most certainly fall into the hell of incessant suffering. If I speak out, I am fully aware that I will have to contend with the three obstacles and four devils. But of these two courses, surely the latter is the one to choose."

challenging situations at work,
never give up, try your best to be successful
right where you are!
It is also in such hard and difficult times

"Nothing comes from dwelling on the past. Nothing changes from sitting passively in silence. On the other hand, taking vibrant action gives rise to hope, and speaking out with courage rouses inner strength."

"... become the master of your mind rather than let your mind master you."

This means having the wisdom to chant abundant daimoku no matter what life condition you are in or what you are experiencing in daily life. It is faith like flowing water. Let's all get in the groove!

And be the Masters of our Minds!

Bowing in humble obeisance,

I chant everyday but not for money. Thanks for realizing that we chant for all of us if truly enlightened.

From what has been taught we become The Buddha when we chant. We then want what is best for our universe. Be the Buddha even for just a moment...
