Nam myoho renge kyo

Ok a little update  Just talked to our buddy PTD !! All is good but there are still some problems with his connection. Everyone in his family are healthy and happy He still cant seem to get on this site . Its a bit hard to tell your provider the exact site you want to be on and remain annonymous so its taking a bit to figure out the problem. We will see him again before long Im sure .. the main thing is we now know that everyone is doing fine. So keep a good thought and Im sure when he gets a bit of time to himself he will work out this connectiont thing :)
Nam myoho renge kyo

The lion king is said to advance three steps, then gather himself to
spring, unleashing the same power whether he traps an tiny ant or
attacks a fierce animal. In inscribing this Gohonzon for [your
daughter's] protection, Nichiren was like the lion king. This is what
the sutra means by "the power [of the Buddhas] that has the lion's
ferocity." Believe in this mandala with all your heart. Nam-myoho-renge-
kyo is like the roar of the lion. What sickness can therefore be an
obstacle?

There should be no discrimination among those who propagate the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo in the Latter Day of the Law, be they men or women. Were they not Bodhisattvas of the Earth, they could not chant the daimoku.

"How, then, are you to go about nurturing faith in the Lotus Sutra? For if you try to practice the teachings of the sutra without faith, it would be like trying to enter a jeweled mountain without hands [to pick up its treasures], or like trying to make a thousand-mile journey without feet. The answer is simply to examine the proof that is close at hand, and thus take hold of faith that is far off."

Proposed Plan for 2009!

Proposed Plan for 2009!

Hello My Family!

I just wanted to note something very important:

Even if we feel that our concerns and personal business is of the utmost importance, I sincerely urge you to please be early to your SGI Buddhist Meetings and make sure everyone is safe and everything is in order. It is up to us Chanting Growers to protect the members, to protect those we introduce to this practice through our daimioku and also make sure our meetings only get better and better.

It is very difficult to even get to meetings sometimes, but quite frankly, that is the challenge we undertake every time we go. Very often something comes up in my life and I can make an excuse to miss this and that, but in 2009 let's unite in our determination to be there more than usual and to support more than ever.

Let's not let the difficult circumstances overtake us before we get more involved in our local groups! Too often during the good times we are enjoying, enjoying, and enjoying while missing meetings and missing opportunities to support the other Bodhisattvas. Even if I'm sick, I vow to support as best I can. Let's plan before the meetings with other members and collaborate to make them better for everyone! Let's practice what we post and read here because that is what is found in our hearts!

In 2009 The Chanting Growers will win against all their collective obstacles and I promise to maintain a consistent example of this for the rest of the year!

"Therefore, when you chant the daimoku of this sutra, you should be aware that it is a more joyful thing than for one who was born blind to gain sight and see one's father and mother, and a rarer thing than for a man who has been seized by a powerful enemy to be released and reunited with his wife and children."

The sutra states, "If there are those who hear the Law, then not a one
will fail to attain Buddhahood." This means that, even if one were to
point at the earth and miss it, even if the sun and moon should fall to
the ground, even if an age should come when the tides cease to ebb and
flow, or even if flowers should not turn to fruit in summer, it could
never happen that a woman who chants Nam-myoho-renge-kyo would fail to
be reunited with her beloved child. Continue in your devotion to faith,
and bring this about quickly.

"A life lived without purpose or value, the kind in which one doesn't
know the reason why one was born, is joyless and lackluster. To just
live, eat and die without any real sense of purpose surely represents a
life pervaded by the world of Animality. On the other hand, to do,
create or contribute something that benefits others, society and
ourselves and to dedicate ourselves as long as we live up to that
challenge -- that is a life of true satisfaction, a life of value. It
is a humanistic and lofty way to live."

When a tree has been transplanted, though fierce winds may blow, it
will not topple if it has a firm stake to hold it up. But even a tree
that has grown up in place may fall over if its roots are weak. Even a
feeble person will not stumble if those supporting him are strong, but
a person of considerable strength, when alone, may fall down on an
uneven path.

Everyone at some time suffers from illness in one form or another. The
power of the Mystic Law enables us to bring forth strength to overcome
the pain and suffering of sickness with courage and determination. The
Daishonin writes: "Nam-myo-renge-kyo is like the roar of a lion. What
sickness can therefore be an obstacle?" (MW-1, 119).

Doing gongyo every day is a challenge. Introducing others to the
practice is a challenge. Getting people to subscribe to our
publications is a challenge. Attending meetings is a challenge.
Sometimes it can all become too much and leave one feeling negative and
wanting to take a break! Since we are human beings, it's only natural
that we might feel this way on occasion. The important thing, however,
is not to spin out of the orbit of faith. I hope you will continue to
pursue the path of Buddhahood steadily and patiently, encouraging one
another on your journey.

"It is the way of ordinary people that, even though they spur themselves on to arouse the aspiration for enlightenment and wish for happiness in the next life, they exert themselves no more than one or two out of all the hours of the day, and this only after reminding themselves to do so. As for myself, I read the Lotus Sutra without having to remember to, and practice it even when I do not read its words aloud."

i am we are here

High Chanters,

Been chanting since 76 and have really enjoyed this adventure. I went from crab fishing the Bering Sea to running for the US Senate. And, everything inbetween.

Finding you all here is a wonder.

Once while being "detained" Mr. Kikomura wrote to me on behalf of Mr. Williams. He reminded me of what has since been a favorite Gosho quote of mine. "Iron, when heated in the flames and pounded, becomes a fine sword. Wise men and saints are tested by abuse."

True for all of us. imo.

President Ikeda has been commenting recently, saying, " I don't care if you "win". Just never be defeated."

Retaining a bright disposition during challenges is victory in itself.

cheers,

Wilson!

Wilson, I had a "thought encounter" last night out of the blue....It was a chant that said, "The only thing I know is, that I have a space in the Universe!"........it overtook my mind.........when I created a concern for such an absurdity, it became a true chant experience.....my conditioned mind had to EXPLAIN to myself how such an un-righteous statement could be out explained?..........I hope you understand......Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo-our new friend!

Love, Desi!

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"...from the perspective of Nichiren Buddhism, the moment we decide to
transform our environment, our lives undergo a tremendous change. This is
because when we forge a deep and unwavering resolve to embark on this
undertaking, we immediately vanquish all of the three categories of
illusions.* As a result, our environment, or the land, also changes without
fail.

"The 'threefold transformation of the land' essentially represents the
challenge of doing our human revolution to smash through the tiny shell of
our lesser self..This means vigorously chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and
courageously initiating efforts for kosen-rufu with the same spirit as our
teacher or mentor in faith. Victory lies in taking action right here and
now, not sometime in the future."
