DIYbio: An Institution for the Amateur Biologist

Hey all,

There is a great movement to put real science in the hands of amateurs, those without advanced degrees, but not any less of real scientists. This topic is pretty vast, so I will post a good starting resource.

Ex.:

I do not (yet) have an advanced degree, but that doesn't mean I am any less of a scientist than those with advanced degrees (ex. Doc's, PhD's, etc). A degree alone does not a scientist make. Drive, intelligence and money (for resources) can make a scientist out of anyone without a degree :dance013:

The difference between a "professional" and "amateur" biologist is a degree and fancy title, that's it; as long as the amateur has money for resources and equipment...
