        Day 1 - Germination

        4/20/2011
        4:20 pm

In honor to whats considered to be 'National Smoke Out Day'.

I started out by lightly scarifying the seeds in a sand papered matchbox for about 20-30 seconds. Next I dropped the seeds in my girlfriend's wine glass filled with a 2% bleach/water solution. Lastly I placed the glass in a dark cabinet to sit for about 23 - 24 hours.

          Day 2 - Germination

          4/21/2011

After about 23 hours sitting in water, I went ahead and gently used tweezers to place the seeds sideways into upsidedown rapid rooters. Once this was completed, I thoroughly saturated each rooter individually over the sink to make sure no excess water was present. Next I placed the rooters on a clean, dry flat, under a humidity dome, but only after spraying the inside of the dome for added humidity. Finally I placed the tray away in a dark cabinet.

                  Day 2 - Germination

After about 18 hours had passed, I decided to check on the temperature sensor that I had placed in the dome. It had an average reading of 70 - 71F, and about 80% humidity; low by some accounts. So I decided to pull out a commercial propagation mat with controller I had only used once, maybe twice, with disastrous results; fried seeds anyone.?. But this time, I had a plan. Instead of laying the flat on the mat itself, I placed a towel between the two and voila, temps staying between 76.5 and 81.5F, and about 90% humidity. Is this almost ideal.?
