Growlog: Panama and PPH - first Ace grow

Hello!

Just wanted to include everyone in my first Ace grow (and my first experience with “pure” sativa genetics) and get some feedback on how I’m doing along the way.

It’s my third grow overall; the first two were some bumpy rides with disappointing results, so let’s try to improve here.

I had to sacrifice quite a lot of PPH seeds to finally find one that would germ, but Ace Seeds have been very accommodating, so huge props for that! 👍 I must have received an unlucky batch or the postal service must have done mean things.

We’re like a month in and there’s been some challenges with dying leaves, but things have become stable again after I starting giving fertilizer, increased humidity (the ghetto way by putting open containers with water in the tent) and adjusted light distance. Summer have just arrived which makes temperature a problem, so I try to find a balance where the lamp is as close as it should be, while still keeping temperature at 28C at most.

I literally just transplanted the plants from their initial pots and I’m just gonna let them settle in for a bit before I bring on topping and a bit later LST which is new for me. I’m probably gonna do another transplant to even larger pots, but I like to see the sex before doing so as my tent can only fit 2 of the large pots and 2 of the current pots, so if some plants turn out male it simplifies the decision.

In addition to the aforementioned strains I have Wild Thailand from WOS and Trop. haze from ONI. We’re all in on sativa!

The plants are positioned in the following order:
Back row: Panama - PPH
Front row: WT - Trop haze

Let’s go!

Everything has been topped now.

Panama really seems to be happy with the transplant and looks like it’s about to take off in height.

PPH is a bit slower, but it is also the youngest of the crop. While it’s been pretty much all vertical growth so far, it’s starting to branch a bit.

Wild thailand is getting really bushy. I have my doubts how much sativa landrace is really in this.

Trop haze seems eager to spread out and has these cute unusually shaped small leaves.

I’m watering with only pH-adjusted water currently as the new soil comes with ferts, so I’ll wait for a bit before returning to my fert schedule. I don’t normally cover my soil with leca, but, man, it’s crazy how it keeps the soil moist.

Welcome Fawcett :) Thanks for supporting our work and for joining this room! I hope our team attended you properly with a replacement for the PPH that didn't germinate.

Plants are looking healthy after the transplant, with a very compact growth so they are having enough light intensity.

I will be around in case of any doubt. All the best!

Thank you very much for the feedback, dubi :bow:The team has been great. I got nothing but positive things to say!

I’ve started experimenting with LST and it looks like it does what it is supposed to. I’ve got some nice little bushes going. At this point I think I am going to veg for another month as I have the tent height for it and I want to maximize the yield of these awesome strains.

The LST continues with a lot of horizontal growth and branching. PPH is gaining in size and starting to catch up with the others. Panama does not seem as eager to put on new side branches as the rest, but new branches are slowly coming out. Trop haze looks like it was made for LST and just branch out everywhere. I can’t wait to see the how the result of all this bending compares to my previous experience with just topping.

The plants have spread out nicely and PPH has done a great deal of catching up and looks very healthy. I see where Sea of Green comes from.

It’s funny how much a difference there is in the plants. They’re literally each their own shade of green with Panama being almost lime and PPH much darker.

Now let’s get back to some vertical growth.

Fawcett, I'm also interested to see what you've got after months of growing that strains. I do love everything, which is related to rare cbd hemp flowers. The first time when I've tried Black Tie Kush hemp flower, which I've ordered right here ( link: https://blacktiecbd.net/collections/cbd-hemp-flowers ), I've felt so nice, comfortable and relaxed, that I've decided that I'm gonna learn how to grow hemp strains, so maybe someday I will be able to reproduce their quality of such an awesome CBD hemp products.

I found some spots on a few different leaves. I wonder what that might be. It looks like leaf hoppers, but I’m not too certain. I’ll have to keep an eye out.

I have an alternative theory. Maybe these leaves have gotten stuck during LST and gotten roughed up a bit. Otherwise we're dealing with a very selective bug as these leaves are on different plants.

I wasn’t gonna post any pics this weekend, but the Ace strains looked so vibrant after last nights watering that I had to anyway. Here you can really see how horizontal the Panama grows.

The plan was to switch to flower about now, but I’m not sure if I should wait for a bit longer as they still seem short. Then again, LST is not about horizontal growth. What do you guys think? The plants have reached a height of 10 inches/25 cm. And would a 11/13 light cycle be necessary for the Panama or is 12/12 okay?

Of course, I meant to write vertical, not horizontal above. Gotta make some more posts so I can get those editting capabilities.

I switched to 12/12 5 days ago and it look like we got some winners and losers in the genetic lottery. The smell when I open the tent in the morning is just wonderful as the plants are maturing.

The trop haze has been a real beaut - strong smell from very early on, healthy colors and growth - throughout the grow, but it looks very male, so it will have to go 😢

Panama on the other hand looks very female, so at least I got that going for me. It might even turn out pink. Can’t say 100% yet.

PPH has caught up well with the rest and is looking very healthy. This is feminized so gender should certainly be female.

So-called wild thailand looks like an indica and I don’t care much for it at all. I’m not impressed.

Pistils have started to appear now :dance013:I really like the way PPH looks. It’s very uniform and healthy, like a picture out of a seeds catalogue. It’s hard to describe the smell in the tent. It’s almost like chocolate and not very sweaty/skunky yet

Flowers are developing rapidly, but so far the smell is not noticeable enough to for me to enable the carbon filter just yet. I’ve adjusted the lamp a bit closer to promote bud development.

Still going strong 8)

The plants have matured quite a bit and have very different appearances. Panama is eager to lose the large fan leaves, while PPH is bushy and green; even when leaves die and dry out they are still hard to remove. Panama has the more “commercially” looking flowers while PPH is lanky with more of a landrace expression. Panama looks to be a bit ahead in maturity of the buds.

I could not resist Ace’s awesome 50% sale recently and with so many interesting genetics I couldn’t restrain myself, even tho I already have way too many seeds. Ace was very very generous with freebies <3

I had a scare yesterday as large holes were starting to appear in the leaves and I could not find the culprit anywhere. A site suggested that it could be crickets and since I have exotic pets I happen to have crickets in my house, so I started looking more desperately today after more holes appeared and found a FAT cricket underneat the inner layer of the tent. Hopefully that solves the problem.

How many weeks to go you guys think? I’ gonna guess 6-8 at least.
