Where's a good place to live in Michigan?

I live in detroit and I've lived on the westside my whole life and recently moved downtown. While some can't take it in the D, I've grown up here, and I am relatively young. I love it, I think moving out of the city is just asking to get caught, I'm always paranoid in places like westland, livonia, redford and I hate it. If you really want to move to MI I'd go to Hartland or places out there past milford/brighton I love it out there. Nice, calm, and not to many cops.

Oh and I also lived and went to school in kzoo and it's almost as bad as Detroit imo.

It just depends on what type of things you are into in detroit. most people just dont go around killing people unless you are in a gang or some crazy stuff like that. I'm coming back because of the opportunities i see that are untouched and not yet fullfilled. Believe it or not this is an industry that can supply jobs and will provide jobs

I gotta weigh in on this. Michigan is a great state. Detroit blows. Its not the industrial revolution here, but believe it or not, people are working and spending money. Jennifer Granholm is a moron, but she'll be gone soon.
Grand Rapids, kzoo, and Ann Arbor are great, but most of Oakland and Livingston counties are good areas to be in.
There are places in cali, illinois(chicago), florida, georgia, miss, etc. that I wouldn't feel safe driving through with a police escort, even though there are also nice safe areas around there also. So Detroit is Michigans bad area, get over it. Having said that, I still don't think I'm gonna get shot going to a tigers, wings, or lions game or bar downtown.

MI is not a horrible place, it is quite beautiful actually. No arguments that economically MI is in a really bad place, but take into account the type of living arrangements and career path one wishes to engage in.

For example if your employment history for the past five years says- Wal-mart, and you move to Redford.... you are pretty much F@%$ed. Stay away, stay far away!

Yet on the flip side let's say- you are an engineer (more engineers per quota -in MI- then any other state!) and you move to Milford right off of Kent lake... MI becomes a wonderful place to live, and eventually raise a family.

If you do good (job, school ect.) were you are, you will do good here. If not just enjoy the parks, culture, and FISHING and go back home because chances of getting your dream job in MI without experience are almost NONE. It's all very subjective is what I'm trying to say. Either way come spend your money here- we need it....j/k (sort of)

I was just looking for shits and giggles, still not sure WHERE we will end up...but I found a really nice 5 bedroom house on 20 acres with a pond and a big barn, for 850 a month...dogs and cats OK.

Our combined skills are growing weed, food/restaurant...and farm/livestock with a little maintenance and housekeeping exp. as well...lol.

Also, A-squared has had a policy of not bothering anyone with a doctor's recommendation since 2004. It is written into the City Charter. Since the 70's possession and sales have been treated as a civil infraction i.e. a ticket with a maximum fine of $100.

I agree on AA being a cool place. I think you're correct on all but the 'sales' part of this tho.. use and possession maybe, but I thinks sales is still a no-no.

Well, I stand corrected.. I had some fun the day before New Years eve, standing on the sidewalk in front of Jolly Pumpkin in AA vaping a bowl in my Iolite.. broad daylight and not a person paid a bit of attention to me.

Im moving to Michigan in a couple months and I was thinking Lansing. I was going to take a few classes and start my legal grow. I got some friends down south bout 45 minutes and seeing as how I dont know anyone else there it is a good a place as any. Any thoughts on Lansing? How is law enforcement down there...chill? Is it crime ridden, dangerous or is it OK. I know certain parts are probably not going to be good. The rent is cheap and I only got 10g's to build my room and pay rent for three or four months. I figure Michigan is a great place to live because of the bad economy. People are always going to puff. Also the more people you have moving there the better the economy is going to get. I am going to check out Kzoo as well now because of all the comments. Lansing?

Being from Michigan, actually born in Lansing, I still would opt for Kzoo or GR area. Lansing is very depressed because of the exodus of all of the automotive industry. School wise, the Lansing area is of course quite good. MSU and LCC are both good schools. Kzoo has Western Michigan which is not a bad school as well. The beer scene is much better in the Kzoo area if that means anything to you. Hope things work out for you..

If you have the money Ann Arbor is nice.The towns around it is alright to.In this thread I heard somebody mention Grand Rapids.You dont want to move there if you intend to grow legally.They are making people buy exspensive business licenses to do it legally.There trying to make it hard on people there.

There isnt a good job market here right now.ALOT of unemployment.

for those desiring a more rural and cheaper setting but with
a liberal bent. The university feel has penetrated into these rural
areas giving it a different vibe. Lots of lakes, marshes and wooded areas.
Washtenaw county has more of a slow growth policy which has slowed
the proliferation of Mcmansions, a little.

I've never lived in Wisconsin, but if someone was considering moving to MI, I'd ask why not Wisconsin instead? Plenty of nice places to choose from in WI, with slightly better climate IMO, and probably a better economy.

Chelsea is very nice. If I wanted to move to a small town in a rural area a stone's throw from a Midwest Cannabis mecca (Ann Arbor) I would look there.

I like Mecosta County. It's quiet and the property taxes are low. There's a house for sale on M66 just south of M10 (M10 as a crossroad) that already has 2 greenhouses. It's been on the market a long time. Wish I had the cash to snatch it up but I like river living too, so I'm torn on the need to grow for my hubby and having a mortgage free place after he passes so I don't have to work (bad Back). It might be a short trip to Ill but to me (a ex truck driver) it's a short trip to go to Ca. too. Hope you find what your looking for.
