Ethiopian Highland

I grew this strain in 07 outdoor organic in the sunniest spot of my garden.
As you can see from the pics she grew big and beautiful.
The smell in veg was herbal and fruity from what I remember,
In flower she developed deeper fruit tones with a blue perfume.

She started to flower early for such a sativa, about 3 weeks earlier than a Jamaican strain grown right next to her.
Harvest was mid November though of course she could've gone longer...:badday:

The buds are indeed light and airy, but still nice and sparkly.
The smell and smoke when fresh was nothing special, didn't burn too well, tasted pretty harsh and was unimpressive in effect.

Thus the Ethiopian buds stayed in the jar while my sticky fingers were deep in the jars labeled "Afghan".
However, now after a good cure she has changed for the better... :rasta:

Undisturbed the buds smell lightly herbal, but when broken open they release a sweet fruity perfume.
The smoke is now much smoother and better tasting, herbal and a little spice,
though admittedly not as deeply tasty as my outdoor Afghans.
But the Afghans have had the advantage of being able to express themselves far more fully in my Climate (50n).
A girl such as the Ethiopian Highland needs a hotter climate to mature fully.

The high is also much improved, it's definitely pure sativa in effect,
At first it goes straight to the head, then gently permeates the body.
It is not racy in the least, in fact this herb has a very calming quality,
both in the mind and body.

The Ethiopian has that very harmonious, balancing effect that I have found in other landrace sativa: Uplifting yet relaxing at the same time.
The effect is long lasting, it gradually fades into the background
and could be described as subtle, but not weak.
To me, this herb is in a different realm to the modern hybrids grown in hydro/under lights.
Zero anxiety, Zero tiredness/after effect, just peace, bliss and clarity! :rasta:

I hope I'm not making this smoke report sound too romantic, but the Ethiopian Highland really is that good,
She has the "natural vibes" I seek.
Irie!

Beautiful smoke report and a very fine sativa, would really much like to taste Ethiopian one day. With pure sativas good cure must be almost as important as the grow itself.

Refreshing to read this kind of reports with overpowering rule of the most trichomefilled stickiest hybrids(nothing against hybrids :D).
Where did you acquire the seed(s)?

Hi everyone, glad you enjoy pics of landraces outdoors!
The yield was around 8 ounces.
The seeds were some of the last stock from African seeds
before they shut shop.

I really think this strain would do well in a temperate/Mediterranean climate,
I don't think she would need a tropical climate to ripen fully,
Nothing like Colombian/Thai etc.

I crossed her with some Leb 27, an old and early Danish sativa
(do a search theres some really good grows of the Leb here)
I'm growing the f1's so I should find some special plants I'm sure. :rasta:

Hey peeps,

DoubleJ,
Here are some dried bud pics,
It looks very leafy but this is alot because I hardly manicure,
I leave most of the small leaves on actually as they have resin on.
The inner calyx' are surprisingly crystal coated.
I would only recommend the Eth at this latitude if your up for a challenge
and/or you are a sativa purist!

roadrcr,
Yup she is a fairly light feeder, but I do use a rich compost in my soil...
I never had any problems with her needing anything, she was very vigorous and healthy throughout her life.

titoon29,
Hiya, I just looked at your Caribbean thread - Simply amazing, thanks.

Here is a lil' Eth I'm growing now, she has the trademark long, slender, and heavily serrated leaves with the rich green colour, already she smells like fruity coffee- Yirgacheffe!?

Awesome report, I love African sativas! That Leb 27 cross sounds badass for sure.
