personally I'd go for 6" each or better but I'm in favor of as much intake as possible.

I think the general rule of thumb is 2x your exhaust, so in your case you could make each 3 inches.. but more intake never hurts.

While I've met some here who swear by 4x, I'd start with the standard 2x and see what happens. 2x is Venting For Dummies you can do with less but, that takes formulas and math. With 2x, cut 3 equal size holes and be done.
4 pipes in each corner? I'm not doing that math for you. You're on your own. Are PVC dimensions ID or OD? If they're OD, five (5) 4" pipes would still come up a little short. Make it easy on yourself. Get a 6" hole saw, punch 3 holes. The end.

I searched for a "venting for dummies" thread and didn't find it. Does that make me a dummy?
The formula for intake holes is pretty simple. Let's assume you have one 6 inch round hole for your fan, you want 2x the area for intake holes, and you want to make four holes of equal size. First, we figure the area of the intake. This is A = pi x radius x radius (This is the famous formula "pi R squared". That's for dummies, because everybody knows pies are round, not square. )The 6 inch hole is for diameter, not radius, so we divide that by 2. Area = pi x 3 x 3 = 3.14 x 3 x 3 = 28.26 square inches We want 2x that for intake, so: Intake area = 2x fan = 2 x 28.26 = 56.5 square inches That means each hole must be 1/4 of this value, or 14.13 square inches. To figure the size of the hole, we get: Radius = sqrt(area / pi ) = sqrt(14.13 /3.14) = 2.12 inches Diameter = 2 x 2.12 = 4.25 inches. You need four holes that are 4.25 inches in diameter. Larger is better. -SomeoneYouKnow |
