Alright in Canada there are some silly little rules about meals that cost less than $4. Here are the most common examples used to explain the ins and outs.

You buy a can of coke from a vending machine:GST+PST
You buy a can of coke from a restaurant: GST+PST
You buy a can of coke and bagel from a restaurant: GST only

The bagel has now made this a meal costing less than $4 and exempted it from provincial sales tax.

You can only exploit these rules if the cashier/cash register understands them, but normally its something long the lines of buying $3.99 meals separately rather than 2 at a time.

What are some of your favourite meals to get when all you've got is a fin?

I will start the ball rolling with: Mcdonalds double cheeseburger meal: 3.99
I will give the ball a push with: Tim hortons regular coffee (2 cream) and breakfast sandwich (sausage)

Anybody?

@ appx. $1.75 per slice it doesn't leave room for a beverage but

Fuckin A, some delicious ideas there. Good participation all. Greasier the better. Everybody knows there's shitpiles of energy in grease.

As it was mentioned, I would like to bring the $.99 wendy's picks to everybody's attention. 4 of them and you're still only around $4.25 after tax. Thats effin decent in my books.

Normally i try not to include a drink in the mix, water is cool in my books.

If you're in the grocery store, Hamburger helper is a good source of cheap greasy calories. (you may need to spend $8 but you could easily split it in 2)

A loaf of bread plus jam/peanut butter easily makes many meals under $4.
Pasta/tomato sauce, always a solid choice

i have to agree there the only thing i like about NYC is the pizza... have you been to monty q's?never heard of it bro,
so many good pizzerias downtown & in the burbs even, truth is if you sell even mediocre pizza in the NYC area you'll be gone 'in a NY minute', damn now my mouth is watering for some NYC pizza & I'm months away from there yet.......

EDIT: nm bro, I just googled Monty Q's, never been there.
do they have an 'open hearth' type oven? Those are very
cool to add to the eye appeal, 'Eye appeal is half the meal'
if it looks great someone would tend to be that less critical
of the meal known as - 'a feast for the eyes' as well.......

and btw, the NYC flea markets, streets festivals, block parties,
the parks, museums, planetarium, walking through throngs of
peoples so varied in cultures looks and habits are just a few
reasons NYC is just great for stoner folk like us. San Gennaro
festival in Little Italy is AWESOME, Fat Tuesday's a jazz club
on the lower east side (3rd Ave @ 17th St.) shouldn't be missed,
I was lucky enough to catch Les Paul there on a Thursday night
back in Oct. of '94, a tiny club, so small every seat's up close.
Dine and have drinks served at your table is the best way to go,
enjoy the show from your table, a bit $pendy but well worth it.
I'd seen many jazz greats over the years. Pat Metheny, Lee
Ritenour, Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton....... you'd need at least
a month in NYC & some deep pockets imo. it's an experience.......

There are some serious sikos here. Fast food is like a Steven Segal movie...bland and predictable.

^^^All that needs to be said.

The closest I get to fast/junk food is Indomie Mi Goreng (Indonesian instant fried noodles) The shit is pure crack.

29 cents a packet...nothing like it. And if you are Muslim - it's Halal!!! :sasmokin:

Even when I've got money I still live off rice, beans and vegetables, with some chicken now and then. Healthy, honest food that doesnt cost shit and will fill you up all day.

I'm not going to pretend for one second I'm above eating mcdonalds. My favourite part is how you dont really need to chew, just lube it up with some of that low viscosity mayo and engorge it. Duck style.

Those noodle packs look amazing for $0.39. 5 seasoning packets, you really are living dude. Anywhere special you pick them up or just a random asian owned convenience store?

Depends on what you consider a meal, I enjoy fast food, but never spring for their "meals". I usually just grab a bunch of stuff off whatever places dollar menu (seems like they all got em now a days :)!)

Always gotta bring your own drink too, 24 pack of water is under $5!

You can get them at the supermarket if you are lucky, but yeah asian stores are more likely to carry them.

I work at an airport, so when I go get something to eat on my break, I go to Pizza Hut and get a box of 5 big ass breadsticks for $3.01.

It's either that, or spend $7.00 on a chicken sandwich and some fries from burger king.

at home hands down quick and easy has got to be pasta, You can get creative and make it nice with meat and such with a red sauce, or just use like Pesto...bunch of cheese for protein and calcium and you are golden...

As long as you got the hamburger on sale it would be around 4$, or way less if two people were eating. (way less than 8$)

and like someone else posted, freaking Chicken.... man I love friend chicken or Baked with Rice and some campbells soup(cream of mushroom/onion/chicken), ~4$ and will feed 4 people.

as for fast food...in the south; Checkers almost always has some sort of 2 for 3 deal that leaves room for a 99cent drink.

Up north;
Wendys like everyone has already said, same thing with Taco bell...

Here is a great one that is slightly more than 4$ but awesome.
Call outback and order off the kids menu, to go. Seriously folks, get two things if you want, it will still be like 10-12 bucks...You can get a 6oz steak with a nice sized side of mash potatoes, for like 6 bucks :)
Or the hamburger is like 1/4lber at mcdonalds, if you are doing this with 2 people, u get two and a blooming onion and its like twenty bucks, and they normally throw in the bread....

fuck i am starving now!
