Hello Ya'll!!

I good breeder friend of mine needs a little marketing help in designing a nice couple of banners and a logo to go on ICMAG....

He offers quite a range of exciting crosses in female seed form and wants to have 2 banners up here on ICMAG.....

What we have decided on the aim of the advertising campaign is that it should centre around the fact that these are seeds of the female kind so he will be re-naming his varieties with the 'Girl' in them to signify that they are female seeds....e.g. Hash Girl...(CH9 x Hashplant)...Mendocino Girl..(CH9 x Mendicino)....Jack's Girl...(Jack Herer X CH9)........e.t.c.

....So a 'Girly' image is required (no porno please...lol!).......maybe a pink and sexy theme....perhaps a Barbie Doll grower image?.......or what-ever comes to mind.......We need 2 banners and one logo for the 'Girl Collection'.....

Lets see what your imagination and artistic capabilities can bring forth here!

.....The 2 winning banner designers will each get a 5 seed pack of 5 varieties of choice from this breeder.......and the logo winner will receive the same.......

.....LET THE CONTEST COMMENCE!

*Banner requirements must be 468 x 60 in gif,jpg,swf or flash.......cannot be any larger or any smaller.....

EDIT: Quick question, are there any specifics regarding the logo? Should it be submitted in a separate file using a certain resolution or image size? Just wondering so I'll know what size to make the original.

Thanks Simpleword and Bounty29...they look great...

4 of these images images come from the Book "Sinsemilla Marijuana Flowers" By Jim Richardson Berkeley 1976.

I like the 2nd image graphic with the shade effect (or inverse in white and black background?) ,seeing the 4rth or 5th picture with the same shade effect will be nice too...(sorry for my sentences...) this sounds more on the pioneer cultivator side ,vintage,than a girl collection but it may give ideas to others members.

I hope I don't break any feeling ,,,do what you feel ,,it will be the best....

I know the book is copyright so....

Thanks for the info, the more you tell us what you want the better we can make the banners and logos for you. Remember, these are going to represent your product, so don't settle for one. Constructive criticism is extremely helpful with things of this nature. :wave:

GN: Should we be using original art and clipart only, or is it ok if we snag stuff off the web?

I imagine a black background banner with at the corner,pic 5 or 4,sinsemilla electric buds swelling in full white.....just an idea...do what you want Bounty ,,use any image you find....
also I like more "Ch9 Female seeds" than "feminised or feminized"...that's all I wanted to say......

Bounty29 that is really cool,,,,,that bring a lot of originality,,,,cause talking about fem seeds ,it is nice to not forget these are plants and they can grow very well,cubing give birth to many mothers plant in small population so ....

I want see some images like that from outdoor grow this summer...anybody want try to start some ch9 seeds indoor in February or March and put them outdoor....

I really like that one (the middle one)....any different font? maybe without the "~" with ch9?

Yeah I'll see if I can find a better font. Do you want to list your strains in the banner, or just have your name and something that signifies they're female seeds?

Depending on when this contest ends I bet the winners would have time to prep for an outdoor grow this year. (Depending on their location, obviously.)

GN, one more question. Is there a filesize we should try to keep it under, because that could make a big difference.

1200 x 800 is a file size that is good enough for a logo....

I reckon that we shall run the competition for another 10 days....so lets say up till the 22nd March.....

I think we don't have so much room to write the strain name...you can try to put one "CH9 G13" if you want as a trial...just the name and something meaning they are Females otherwise...

Gypsy a friend on a forum did it for me as a joke,,I told him we had a laugh with Barbie etc....please no !!! lol...

I used Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" for inspiration but gave mine more of a "come hither" look in her eye. :rasta:

Probably the best known image of Venus/Aphrodite. I hope a little nudity is ok ;)

Well I think it's a good question, how far are we allowed to go by using artwork and images we find on the internet? I don't want to spend time in Photoshop only to be told "Sorry, you can't use that." Are we concerned with copyrights and stuff, or is it just a free for all?

tuco, is that original art by you? If so, that's awesome, I've always wished I had artistic talent.

Ok, I'm sorry to be irritating, but I have a couple questions that I'd really like to have answered.

1. What size will the logo be used at? No sense in making a detail filled 1200x800 logo if it's going to be used as a 240x160 thumbnail, which will make it look like a mess.
2. What is the size limit of the banner? I've checked, and it looks like the banners on the site here are all 15kb-30kb, should we try to stay in that range?

Again, I'm sorry to be asking all these questions, but I've done some basic graphic design and you need to know what you're working with before you can go into a project. I'm extremely appreciative that we even have a chance to be in a contest like this, I just want to make sure I play by the rules and not have to worry about my entry not qualifying due to a technicality.

My logo is an original piece of artwork, I didn't "find" it...Like I said, I used Botticelli's painting as inspiration because it's probably the most famous depiction of the goddess, Venus.

Look closer at Botticelli's original work...you can see my piece is different in many ways. But obviously - I want people to look at my piece and go "Oh look, it's Botticelli's Venus."

great logo. i would change the face a bit.. to me she looks a little "froggy" and wierd. and maybe have her arm cover her other breast as well making it more classy. but other than that its a very nice entry.

Endo, I was thinking of keeping the arm more like the original but wanted to have her holding a seedling or seeds...hmmm, you might be onto something though.

I'll give it an edit in the next few days and clean things up a bit.

I dig negative space...

I made a green version for regular seeds, as well as a grey/pink version for the Girl Collection. I'll see if I can't knock something out for a banner in the next few days...

SIMPLE, MODERN, CLASSY, EFFECTIVE....not so clear at first it forces you to look closer, using the negative space is a very common trick to play on the eyes that actually increases the effectiveness of a logo....very stylish

I like a lot what Bounty has done,I would like to see it with the last pictures I posted at the bottom of page 1 that are more green florescent....the second trial you have done is nice.The first and second samples are really cool to me...If we could see more the seeds on the first sample where you let a dark seed background ,it be cute too...

I like the roots on simplewords logo.....and Alija black & white logo too..

Tuco it is beautiful and goes very well with what Gypsy was thinking....and he thinks well..our taste are not always the best but I am very attached to the bud shots image ,,,on Bounty banner....

Simpleword first banner is cool & very tempting....

The logo from panopticist is real cool and modern...as we are focused on female seeds so writing Female somewhere may help,even with a smaller font,at the bottom? other green color maybe? otherwise the burgundy and grey sounds cool and fresh...

if it was me I will mail seeds to all for helping...I hate choosing a winner so I hope Gypsy will help maybe...

Bounty ,not to be a pain,,but the first animation was faster right? ( I mean on the first banners you made) and it end with a better view of the final buds (more buds),,,which doesn't appear similar on the last trial...maybe using the first picture on the bottom page 1 (I remove the second one so there is only one left now to make it clear) of this thread will remove the white fade mark we see close of the buds on the final view (top right) ...

I like the last 2 banners ,,,if you could make this tiny changes good otherwise,,it is very nice thanks...

When I see that picture of the buds it makes me think outdoor, old school buds. Definitely something I've been interested in since I started growing. Overall I like the design, but that's probably because I made it. :)

I know this isnt what you're after, but its all just in fun, and so I took it in another direction.

I tried to put it all into a ghostbusters "NO" sign, you know, the red cirle with a line going through it, but I dont have software that will do that, I assumed I would have, so anyway:

Gmt, Nice...lol...

During our tests we haven't found any hermas, during testers test ,,,some plants were half burned and never shows signs of hermaphrodisme (their technique not mine), they loose half their leafs no hermas...but lately we found one herma out of a client grow,that seems to be well set up and where no heavy stress was done,,(except over fertilising maybe) ,it could happen.(5 ml started with a tap water at 0,82 ec is a way too much on young plants and he may have used the supervit small bottle where some auxines and cytokinines are present and are known to reverse sex...I guess he reached 2.5 Ec or more on 2-3 weeks old plant....!)
Otherwise I think by using our technique and later on some trial some female seed plant to breed I have remove some genetic hermaphrodisme tendency,this way....but environmental tendency can always occur...

I can't speak for everyone, but if I were to get at least 85-90% females from a pack of female seeds I'd be satisfied. I've never bought female seeds though, so I can't really say much.

More logo ideas. Took a little inspiration from Panopticist on the top left one but his still looks the best for the style and originality. Going to be tough to beat it. Trying to come up with some more natural/conventional logos. Banners will come sometime soon, too.

All I have so far. Mostly conceptual and could be altered in color, font and composition. I'll be working on more later today.

simple, eye catching, original concept, good impact, .....it just needs direction from Ch9 on font choices, size and colour..layout etc

I can see how it could be interpreted as medicinal, perhaps I should explore that a bit more. I'll be posting refined versions of two logos later; font change, color changes, composition edits.

Here's my take on it for now. I really wanted it NOT to look like "channel 9" or look like short hand for "cha-nine" or text-art boobs. I wanted mine to look like C-H-9 and be interesting to look at. I hope it works for you. I want to play with some more ideas when I have more time.... shit, times almost up!

Probably my last submission for logos. Not particularly excited about any of them especially but I'm a little rusty on the design front. Anything could be changed (colors, composition, etc.) if need be. Couldn't work that calyx vector into anything appealing so I just threw it in there for the hell of it.

Apparently you can't upload .swf files to ICMag galleries so I am not able to display my flash banner here. I might have to link the file to my personal web server so I'm going to PM CH9 and Gypsy a link to my flash entry. As for my non-animated entry, it is below. I used some of the pictures of your strains from the CH9 website so I'm sorry if that infringes on copyrights but I wanted to include pictures of your bud and not random bud shots but if it is a problem (legally) let me know.

i wanted to use this for the contest, just couldn't figure out how to work it in. Was thinking maybe a male/female idea b/c one side of the plant is pink and the other green...maybe a pink fairy and a green knome or something both firing up or something....or maybe just a backround to a banner..but like I said, never got it worked out. oh well...my vote out to Panop...others are good too, I just think his looks the most commercial...
