There are a few things I want to do b4 I croak. I've adoptrd some of BOG's virgins, but thet are much too young to sacrifice. A 500 pound Marlin would be nice. Maybe next summer.

Hawaian smoke. Anyone have any advice or experience growing this stuff? Are there any "pure" strains available? This is definitely on my list. Thick gooey buds ya had to cut up with a scisors. Oh baby.

I've got quite a few freinds in the islands and make several trips a year over to paradise.

Although you still find some old school Maui Gold, Maui Wowie, and Puna Bud it is not the strongest or most desirable herb available in paradise.

My last couple of trips the primo stuff has been Diesel, Pink Grapefruit, Sour Diesel, something they are calling Mighty Joe Young and some Afgani here and there.

The real trick seems to be the Islands themeselves. They are getting three to four harvest a year in dirt outside. No nutes, no fuss, and no muss. All organic. Volcanic soil is something else. These guys are not even preppin the soil or anything. Just find a good patch of dirt and go. I also know greenhouse growers there that are doing one more harvest a year and getting much thicker, meatier buds. Definately sticky, drippy buds.

It also seems to be dependent on what part of the Islands your in. Upcountry Maui seems to be great, not raining all the time but other places on Maui are the wettest places on earth. Some places on the Big Island are like the desert with little rain at all. The Big Island seems to be more suitable for growing (weather, attitude and population dencity). But, no matter what part of the Islands they are growing in it seems to only take them a few months for them to get it dialed in.

They have also discountinued fly choppers around trying to find outdoor grows. The state was sued over the practice because it was killing off a local protected bird and disrupting it's nesting area (thank god for greenies). Plus it cost so much to man and keep gas in the choppers and for the most part Hawaii is a very poor state. Pineapple and tourism only get you so far. So with that there is a surplus of local outdoor bud. Great if you in the know but it's still holding $100.00/quater in the local retail market.

I've grown out some Hawaiian Indica from Sensi Seeds that was not that great. I've also grown out some Diesel from seed that was from a Hawaiian batch and it was good but not great. The plants seem to love paradise as much as I do. I typically grow indoor organic hydro so it's not quite the same.

I'm going over the first of April. So, I can give some more feedback when I return.

I have read that either Fuma con Dios or The Real Mccoy from The Flying Dutchman has quote "some primo hawaian genetics in it".

Thanx Guys-

The smoke I got was from a grower in the early 80's. It looks like things have changed for the worse. It also looks like the Island strains have all been hybridized.

It is still the best weed I've ever smoked.

Buds actually grown in paradise just have a special loving effect on the mind and body.

Man I love that place.

I'm actively scouting land and houses right now. What a much more smoke freindly enviroment. Everybody puffs.

I hear ya' Captain, I smoked some of the pure Maui Wowie back in 1982 from a friend that had just come back from the Islands. To this day I have yet to smoke anything with that kind of body high that keeps your head clear and energized. I went for a five mile bike ride after smoking the kind bud and I though I was flying, literally!
Dutch Passion puts out a version of their own called "Hawaiian Haze". I haven't grown it but it sounds tasty enough. Good luck with your 500 LB. marlin;)

I gotta chime in here, because Hawaiian is prolly the best "up" high I have ever experienced as well (or was it just that I was 20 years younger and toting around a little less weight?) I got a hold of some Maui Wowie about the same time that KGB47 did; my ex-gf went to there every year for vacation with her folks and always brought back the goodies--Kona Gold, the Wowie, etc. I grew the few seeds that were in the buds, and I can only back up what the Texas Kid said--the girls never came close to their mother in either taste or buzz. I prefer Hawaiian coffee as well, and it's interesting to note that cannabis and coffee share the same boost in aroma, flavor, and richness when grown in volcanic soil....conditions that cannot be duplicated by the simple home grower.....unless, of course, the Kid wants to help us all out by bringing a load of dirt back. :D

Has anyone checked out either Pakalolo or Paia Hawaiiana from Sativa Seedbank (at SD)?? I'm pretty sure both have been "stabilized"(crossed with skunk) to shorten maturation times and increase the yield, but I figure if one grew enough of them, you might find a really sativa pheno......anyway, that's my plan.......when finances permit.

And to the esteemed Captain--good luck with that marlin--

Elmo,

That much dirt may be a bitch to get through the airport.

Pakalolo is a generic term when your in Hawaii (hawaiian for weed) so I'm not sure what exact strain or hybrid that may be.

I know the guy's in Paia on the wonderful island of Maui that elegidly, to hear them tell it, did the early hybrids of the Paia Hawaiiana strain thats out there right now, but I haven't grown any.

Smoked some with a heavy sativa pheno last time I was there and vegged out. I think I sat with my finger on the remote control channel button for about 25 or 30 minutes before my old lady asked me if I was alright. I guess everybody wasn't as interested in watching all the channels just scroll by as fast as the TV would allow. Oh well, killer buz anyways

I'll see what web they have to spin when I'm there in 4 weeks roughin it. hehehe

Howzit? Hello from the Big Island. Yes it is true, all true, Hawaiian is da best.
I read in a guide book that I think was from the 70's that claimed there were only a couple different types of weed on the islands. I think they said they had originated in Vietnam and Thailand. That has obviously changed now. The other day this guy held out his clenched fist to me and gave me a handful of White Widow!
Every bag I bought here was top notch and pretty similar though.
I am growing an indica strain that one guy has been growing pure for about 20 years now and it is unreal. My first grow had no lava rock soil in it though, just potting soil from the store and it turned out good even though I grew it in small pots (11") and during the late fall/winter.
Captain,
Some dude got a 686 pounder a few days ago, think they had one or two "granders" this year.

No, nO, I'm talking about buds so big you need a pickup truck to buy just one!!!

.................marlins...... .......

Har, Har, and no, not the baseball team either.
Reel big fish! 1,000 pounds and more caught with a rod. They got a big old spear for a nose and it's not unheard of for them to go flying thru the air when you get them near the boat. A few years back, some guy got one right thru the chest. His dad was on the boat and saw it and passed out like a sack of potatoes. The guy was OK though.

ALright Texas Kid

Don't forget all of your good buddies here at IC while your in paradise. If you cant bring us all back a large sack of that special soil, atleast grab us some local beans so you can spread the wealth.

I'm going to Vietnam/Thailand later this year with my old lady & some of her family. I'll be spending 4 1/2 weeks there traveling and seeing temples. The only reason I agreed to go is.....you guessed it..the opportunity to find quality strains. Hopefully a Pure Thai/Vietnamese Sativa for my garden.

The entire time I'll be there I'll be scouting for beans and attempting to locate a local grower who could hook me up. I know it will be hard to find someone, but Cash talks in Vietnam so I think I'll be doing alot of purchasing.

It's kind of funny, my old lady was like...Wow I told my family that you would never go! She was so happy, she must think I actually want to spend time with them.....hahaha

Needless to say when I return I'll be spreading my wealth to my buddies here at IC.

Fluffy Green Buds to Everyone !!!!!!!!!!

S Pain,

Having been to both those places several times over the years...... BE CAREFUL MAN.

I've wore out Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Indonesia hell most of Southeast Asia all through the 90's I was jumping around over there.

Just don't go way off on some covert mission with locals and not expect potiential problems. A local family member in your case should be the ticket.

Watch out for the monkeys

Well just got back from Maui......what a time had by all.

Greenhouse grown AK-47 was the hands down killer this trip. One hit shit, blinding. Big fluffy, sparkling, beautiful buds

Outdoor indica grown in Hilo on the Big Island. awesome, light green with greenish, purpley hues. I ended up with one seed out of this visit

Outdoor indica/sativa grown outdoors in Nahiku which is the wettest place on earth. (averages 1-1/2 to 3" of rain a day sometimes) These guys have been working with this strain to successfully make it extreamly mold resistant. Killer buzz. I ended up with about 8 seeds out of this visit.

All were killer, no complaints what so ever. Plus two were kind enough to give me a couple a seeds to play with.

They were also working with a strain they are calling "Dog". It grows crazy sideways and up kinda like a Kush and real sparkley smoked excellent.

All in all had a great fog filled vacation

Sounds like you had an awesome time Texas, did you know these people that you got the weed from? Thats great that you got to try some Greenhouse AK47 in Hawaii, how did it compare to AK47 grown here or in Amsetrdam? The other strains sound great, good thing you got a few seeds, I can't wait to see the results! Keep us posted and if you have any pics please post them!!

Sour Cheers!

Palm,
I did already know people over in the Islands. One of my circles of freinds started moving over there about 10 or so years ago. So, I was hangin with some guys I have known 20+ years plus met a couple new really graet people and growers.

The AK was outstanding. I can't really compair to tha Dam because the last time I was there was in the mid 90's and AK had not burst onto the scene yet. But, it was as good as the best indoor hydro AK. I have a buddy who is specializing in AK right now and he has it down to the T and I would say it was just up from that. Remember, I was smoking in Hana overlooking the cliffs Hawaii so, the buzz rating is reflective of the scenary and company I was in. But I think it would have been killer AK even if I was standin in shit. It was awesome.

I have alot of other grow projects going right now but , they are in line to grow pretty quick

Welcome home Tex, they must have dragged you away from there kicking and screaming;) Did you get your groove back?:D

Guest

More like, pry the bong from my hands and whipe my eyes.

I got my groove back, on, sideways, forward, upside down, and several other ways to get your groove, naked...but I won't go into to much detail.

The Islands are awesome. Hana, Kaupo, Nuhiku, etc.... heaven

Plus, I returned to 2 Mazars just ready to cut and 1 Mazar 30 days behind it. Everything in my setup is automated so it was nice to be able to leave for 5 or 6 days with no problems. Any longer and they would have drank all the water in the 35 gallons of rez.

back in battle for me.

I am already for my next trip. 6 hours back and planning the next one....oh well

ummm Did you mean the big island? Cause they fly all the time still, they tear up ocean view, they terrorize my little nook and they have a brand new chopper in there arsenal. I believe they have 2 choppers now :( Just a heads up for all you Big Island Folk..Peace !!

we'd love a picture tree hugger, well more, but a picture would satisfy ;)

i was on the big island and got incredibly resinous outdoor sativa bud, then smuggled some seeds back and got what i named kona cherry:
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3890KonaCherry11wks-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3890KonaCherry11wks.jpg)
strong, not a knockout, but euphoria's the word, and yeah, dazing out after a single hit can happen as she comforts the head. growin in organics here she retained the dark earthy tones that came from the volcanic soil, but had a cherry liqeur smell i won't soon forget. she's gone now, but i did cross her to a great skunk #1, feminized seeds though. i'm growing some now, will let ya know how they turn out should ya be interested at all :)

my stay in mountainview on the big island was one i'll never forget, and i'm always trying to manage to get back there. paradise indeed.
