Hey guys. This is my first time posting a grow. Oh the excitement. My name's OHenry. I'm new to IC and cant wait to get rolling with this grow.

As far as the particulars...they are as followed:

My grow space will be a C13 cabinent. This was picked up @ Home Depot for about 200 bucks. Its quick to put together...but you get what you pay for. It could use some reinforcement and I used some extra L brakcets to stabilize the shelve and bottom supports. It'll give you two spaces to utilize. I'll be using the lower 50" for my initial veg and flower until I can produce some clones to go upstairs in the remaining 24" or so.

I'll be running a 400wt. Sunleaves Pulsar Two-Way ballast. This will allow me to use the 400mh in the tail end of veg and easily switch over to my 400hps. I use a 400 Hortilux MH and a 400 Gavita Lamp. The gavita is nice because I can elimintate any relector and maximize the closet height. I'm using a simple universal cordset and will be mounting it to the bottom of the closet shelve.

My growing medium will be hydroton. And my feeding will consist of Pure Blend Grow- Botainicare Cal-Mag , Liquid Karma , Soluable Seeweed Exctract.

I had to have a couple cool toys to play with as well so I picked up the nutradip Tri-Meter. This things great. It'll read out all three important readings digitally. We'll see how much this makes a difference as I go on.

And last but not least, I made sure to get good genetics. I ordered BOG's Lifesaver and Sag's Matanuska Mist. I'm blessed to be able to view all of the many Lifesaver grows on the forums and hope that'll I'll make Bog proud. I've got the beans in a warm place ready to pop so it'll be a few days before I get some pics.

Hope to get some people to follow my first grow online! Have a great New Years. OH

P.S ~ Make sure to read my article "Hot New Threads" in The Flower Pix Newsletter. This is a great publication of whats going on online @ IC. Crazy Composer is completely blowing this thing up. You'd be missing out if you dont check it out. Bye!

what are you using for ventilation in that cab Ohenry, that 400's gonna get mighty hot in there without any airflow!

I'm actually in the process of trying to find a 4" hole saw. I'll be running a floro in the begining so I've got a little time. I'm going to use a 260cfm inline blower to a homeade scrubber. I'll also be able to keep the door open with some low fans. I've had good luck keeping low temps in my past grows. This closet is slighty smaller than I've worked with before so I'll be running the light for a day or to soon to see what temps it reaches w/o ventilation and the door open. Well see. Thanks for the post. OH

Ventilation will be your toughest obstacle in your C13. You have some great genetics.

Sign me up... I'll be watching this grow.

Well they've all but one popped wide open! The three LS came real quick. I was surprised how fast they shed their shell. The Matanuska came about a day later. Their to the point where I've put them in starter plugs. They all look they just waiting to explode! Thank god for good genetics!

Hey guys...got some new stuff thats happened in the past two days. I had initially mounted the light directly to the top of the shelf! BIG NO NO.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0041-thumb.JPG (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0041.JPG)

I should have known but after only an hour of running the light the wood got so hot you couldn't touch it. I new I had to change it and my only solution to direct the heat was a hood. I picked up a Daystar AC.

http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0040-thumb.JPG (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0040.JPG)

Its really nice. I suggest anyone with limited space make sure to check out this hood. Its only 7" high and takes away minimal growing area.

http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0042-thumb.JPG (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0042.JPG)

I installed two 80 cfm duct fans and tied one into the light hood. There was a problem with alignment of the light cordset and I could not directly output on the other end of the light. What I did do was cut a 4" hole to the back side corner of the grow space.

http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0043-thumb.JPG (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0043.JPG)

http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0044-thumb.JPG (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/3378000_0044.JPG)

I hope this will remove most of the hot air. I have a feelin though that I might be installing one more duct fan. I also plan to mount a small circulating fan to the back wall. I will make sure to post pic of install.

I also went out and bought two small floro's that are working well. I mounted them to the underside of a small shelf I had made to hold my nutes and things. It maximizes space and serves two purposes.

Another important note! With the guidance of Crazy, I've decided to move over to Earth Juice Grow/ Bloom and Thrive Alive B1. I hope with his help I should be able to create a structured feeding schedule. Hydro is new to me so I'm making sure to take all the help I can get. Thanks all.

It shouldn't be long before I put them into the Aero system. Can anyone give me some advice about timing from floro to mh/hps. Thanks OH

Great start Henry, love the cab configuration.

You may want the extra verticle space so it's good that you can still take the shelf out for another foot or so.

Good growin

The ph is fluctuating so much! It'll go from 4.8 to 7.4 in no time. I made sure to calibrate my meter but....Anyone have any suggestons. My h2o read @ about 6.4 alone. I have Earth Juice Ph Up/Down and its hard to get it to stay in on place!OH

King

Go get some new ph adjusters ASAP! Earth Juice sucks. I lost a whole bunch of seedlings because I didn't know about Earth Juice PH up/down. Apparently it has to sit in the reservoir for 24 hours for it to adjust. My question is, how do you ever know and keep a constant ph with that stuff in hydro? I could see where it would work in soil if you mix it and wait, but in hydro this can't really be done IMO.

Hope it turns out well for you. Unfortunately I learned the hard way.

well i got the ph to stay @ 6.8. I am using bottled water to feed them through the top right now. I plan to get it down a few points before I run it. I am def switching ph solution asap. King thanks so much for the advice. I never would have known it had to sit overnight.

overwatering the young roots

young roots are REAL thirsty and dont know their limits, kinda like underage drinkers!!

keep feeding them through the top only when the hydroton seems that its let all its water go, the way they're goin now they are getting too much

Well...I'm not off to the great start I h ad hoped to...but! with great excitment I am going to start my grow over. With the help of Crazy I am going to switch over to soil , continuing an organic diet and also decrease the number of plants...I am taking some excellent advice and feel much more confident it the future of my closet. I will be hoping to get my genetics in order and get some new dirt. Update this soon. LAter OH

Well I made the move this week. I went out and got some dirt. I know that there will be a day when I have the Aero setup again but for right now soil is going to be my best medium. I will be posting a grow thread in the soil forum. I have germed three of Bog's Lifesavers and have also germed some of TRC's limited Blackindiglow! I'll make sure to post the link here @ some point today or tomorrow. Hope everyone stops by to check in. LAter OH
