View Full Version : What is your dream car?

I was watching an auto show last night about some Italian car festival and they were showing all the Ferraris and lamborghinis and their owner were talking about the history behind them etc.

and I was thinking about what my dream car would be and I still don't think it would be a ferrari or lamhborghin.

I would want something that I can drive almost everyday and enjoy it not something crazy flashy that makes me look like a celebrity with people all gathering around my car.

the guy was saying if you every wanted to be a celebrity, driving a lamborghini is the closest thing.

Also when you look at most of these lambo and ferrari owners they just own the car for status and attention and the ones that truly love the car rarely drive it maybe take it to the track like twice a year and then park it in some garage under a cover.

On the other hand most porsche owners I know drive their cars almost daily even in the winter.

So for me the newer 911 turbos would be my dream car or a porsche 928 GTS would be another I would like to own.

both of these cars have huge power and can beat the lambos/ ferrari with the huge v12s and they are much cheaper to buy and to maintain than a lambo and ferrari als they are much less flashy and more classy imo.

you can still drive your 911 turbo or 928GTS to work or even to the groccery store or take it to the track but I can't say the same about a lamborhini.

the new Porsche carrera GT with the v10, I think it costs around 600 grand would be the fastest / highest tech porsche but I wouldn't really want one of these either, way too much power and car , more suited for racing on the track.

also what exotic or semi exotic cars have driven before?

I haven't driven anything crazy, I drove an older 928 and a 80s 911.

I must say though the think that the lambos/ ferrari v12s have is awsome engine sound, the flat six porsches also sound very nice but the rumble of a v12 is just insane.

Where I took my 944 for service it's always filled with lambos and expensive porsches and I was watching a guy take the lambo I think murcialgo for test drive and I think that's only a v8 but still the sound of that engine was amazing like a forumula one car.

reminds me of cheech and chongs reving that motorcycle in their house I wouldn't mind reving a lambo engine all day.

ive driven a couple supercars. the coolest thing i ever got in was the jaguar Xj220. a family member bought one and drives it once a week if its nice. he decided it would be alright for me to give it a spin as i had driven some of his ferrari's, lambos and porsche's and had proven myself somewhat responsible heh. i would like a porsche gt3 or possibly a lambo gallardo Se eh? i probably wont ever own one but atleast i got to drive some. its probably the coolest thing ive done so far, the only thing thats going to top it is going the dam to smoke with all my buds.

I personally would be a 1950's S2 Bentley, modified with 4WD and a Rolls Royce Griffon engine, tuned to run on alcohol.

A 35.75 liter(!!!) V12 running on pure ethanol puts out about 2500bhp, and about 4000 foot pounds of torque....enuff to pull buildings of their foundations.

Oher essential mods.....

Fridge, espresso machine in the dash, full telecommumications and GPS mapping suite, chemical toilet, fold-out bed, 24 inch wheels, 6 inch pipes, hot and cold water taps, custom built luggage and a bottle of Grey Poupon velcroed to the dash.

It would be SOOOO much fun to be able to shut down alla you folks in yer american muscle-cars in a 9000lb+ car, with 6 of my friends on-board....hee hee hee

My " dream " car would not need gas, nor need repairs. It would get me from point A to point B as safe as possible and thats all i ask for in a car. If one dreams about material then you have really got to evaluate what life is all about. A car gets you from point A to point B, thats it. Its not a status symbol nor is it something that people should like you more for. I learned that material is nothing to strive for. I wish i would have known that years ago when i sacrificed my principals for $$ and material possessions that in the end dont make you a better person.

Sorry to be a buzzkill to your thread, but one should dream of being a better person, not having better things. Things come and go. But who you are is who you are. Let you define you, not a material possession.

I don't really want to pay more than 150k for any car (if I had the money) unless I was crazy rich with bags of money everywhere.

like lambos and ferraris are around 300k + and if you get into a smally accident it could be 100k in repairs and maintenance like changine a clutch can cost around 15k.

no wonder most owners just take them to a car show or drive it on a track a couple of times. You don't want your lambo parked outside.

Genkisan but how practical would that dream car be even if you could afford it?

are you going to actually drive that thing regularly. Also I would imagin that thing would be a boat and not very sporty at all (l would like to see it take a turn at speed).

I'm into smaller cars with enough power to be fun and also good handling and feel of the car. I like to fee like I'm "part of the car" and not sitting in a big boat with a million hp.

that car is awsome for "coolness factor" but I definately wouldn't want that as my daily driver dream car.

that's the same reason I wouldn't want a ferrari or lamborghini for a daily driver.

the 911 can actually be faster and make more power than those v12 but they are more civilized.

Yummybud
03-19-2007, 05:23 AM
yeah I've heard crazy things, like on the new porsche carrera GT the engine has to be removed from the car and partly disasembled to get the clutch out that's why it's 15 k.

Yummybud
03-19-2007, 05:26 AM
Lotus also makes some great cars and they are actually affordable. I think some of them use even toyota engines and because they are so light, they have crazy handling and accelerate faster than some supercars with huge engines.

the downside is you don't get the same rush when you're reving a 4 cylinder lotus as you would get reving a v12.

i have valeted for a couple years and have driven almost every car on the road, and a few exotics. lets see if i can remember them all:

bmw m5
bmw m3
bmw m6
aston martin db9
porsche cayman
porsche targa
porsche carrera
bentley continental gt
maserati coupe
corvette z06
mercedes s550 amg
mercedes slr mclaren
porsche 911 turbo
'69 gto
'69 vette

there may be others, it's hard to remember them all. but i've never driven a ferrari or lamborgini (man i wish i could have my way with a ferrari).

porsche 911 turbo, cayman and targa were the best cars i've driven in terms of how they felt on the road.

my dream car? old body ('99-'02) m5. beautiful car in everyway, inside and out. i'd like it with a little more power though. i'd probably put a twin turbo kit on it and bust out 600hp. scare the shit out of 4 of your closest friends!

yeah the handling and overall performance is great, but they're built for the track. no radio, no ac, no leather, etc.

not my kind of daily driver.

that car is awsome for "coolness factor" but I definately wouldn't want that as my daily driver dream car.

that's the same reason I wouldn't want a ferrari or lamborghini for a daily driver.

If we are dreaming, and if I could afford to have that car, I would not be working, nor would I be driving daily. I'd live on about 1000 acres of bushland on the Canadian Shield, and my daily mode of transportation would have four legs and a mane, not wheels.

I am not a slalom driver, so a 'big boat' with ultimate power if fine by me....and I wan the space to carry friends...and S2 can seat 7 people.

If I run it on ethanol, I don't have to feel guilty about pollution when I do drive it, which would prob be twice or three times a month.
I simply don't want a lifestyle that requires me to have to drive any more than that....so drivning for me would be a treat, and a chance to have fun in my crazy sick-ass monster Bentley.

the 911 can actually be faster and make more power than those v12 but they are more civilized.

No offense, Yummy, but there is NO WAY any Porche is gonna make more horsepower than a Griffon. The Griffon has almost the same displacement per cylinder than the whole 911 motor has......
Properly tune and modify a Griffon, and run it on alcohol, and you could literally pull buildings off their foundations, or tow a semi with it's wheels locked and the trailer fully loaded.

The 1930 RR Phaeton roadster with a Merlin engine I read about had 1000bhp and 1500ft/lbs, and did 212 MPH, with a speed regulator keeping the engine running at a max of 2250 RPM.
A griffon is about 10 liters bigger than a Merlin, and has a rated running RPM of 2750, and can operate above 3000 RPM fer short periods.....if you can make the frame strong and heavy enough, no reason you should not be able to get 245 MPH+ out of it.

In an straight line, to be sure.....LOL!!

So all things considered, I'd have a bio-diesel shitbox pick-up truck for utility use (need on in da bush), a horse fer everyday travel use, and my monster Bentley S2 fer fun on da highways and bi-monthy shopping expeditions.

foolintherain
03-19-2007, 06:08 AM
porsche 911 turbo is a great choice imo, comfortable, handles amazing, even a back seat and trunk space, not to mention the mpg is excellent for a sports car and average for cars in general

Yummybud
03-19-2007, 06:14 AM
I wasn't talking about the griffon v12 I was talking about ferrari/ lambo. obviously nothings going to beat that 37 l monster but that thing is made for airplanes not cars. it weighs a ton also.

I've never seen a turbocharged ferrari or lambo 12 though, I wonder why they haven't made turbo v12.

Yummybud
03-19-2007, 06:16 AM
yeah that's why the 911 turbo is also my choice, I don't think anything could beat it for me. Sure there are faster cars but it's not like I'm going to be driving over 300km/h anywhere.

wow I just looked at that rolls royce engine that Genkisan posted and that thing is massive like the size of a jet engine. rolls royce also makes jet engine.....

The Griffon

* Type: 12-cylinder supercharged liquid-cooled 60° Vee aircraft piston engine
* Bore: 6 in (152.4 mm)
* Stroke: 6.6 in (167.6 mm)
* Displacement: 2,240 in³ (36.75 L)
* Dry weight: 1,980 lb (900 kg)*

Power output:

* 2,035 hp (1,520 kW) at 7,000 ft (2,135 m)
* 1,820 hp (1,360 kW) at 21,000 ft (6,400 m)

cars are great!, there like driving peices of art, especially the flash designed cars.
Yeh sure they get you from A-B but its always nice to work in your garage and find a
beautiful "Dodge Viper" , i think its the 70s or 80s model, and black not red for me, but yeh...ya know...take it for a spin...man Dodges sound the best you hav to edmit. Thats my dream car for sure.

My dads friend owned a Ferrari once...took me for a spin round the block. I could feel the engine pushin me from behind like a soft push behind me. Ill never forget it. When we got back all the people in his street where lookin and standin outside with there kids...they loved it, especially the kids.

Its good to take interest in dream cars cos someone has actually designed them cars on paper. Its like art i think...well it is art.

yeah...... but I don't want to drive a bus with a million hp that can only go in a straight line.

that rolls royce would still loose to a 911 on a track or anywhere else. you can just beat muscle cars at drag strips. 911 and all other sports cars (lambos ferraris) aren't made for drag racing so you can't even compare them.

I was close to buying a 1980 porsche 928 last year, not as powerful or nice as the GTS but it was 6 grand vs 60 grand for the GTS. It needed expensive work though like an engine reseal and interior was ripped. I ended up buying my 944 which wasn't much cheaper to maintain and it's half the engine of the 928 not very exciting.

I thought this was interesting, I had never heard of this car and I came across it on the net.

Farboud GTS 375hp supercharged v8, carbon fiber body. It's created by a Iranian guy and build in the UK. It will be sold in the U.S soon. I think price is around 150,000 or 200,000 it's suppose to compete with the ferraris and lamborghinis that are a bit more expensive.

the company was created in 2004 and right now the car uses a supercharged amercian v8.

kind of looks like a porsche carrera gt copy to me (the front).

the guy that created this company is a rich guy that wanted to buy one of porsches 5 factory race cars but the company would not sell him one so he got pissed off and started his own super car company.

and this car is apparently in the new Xbox project gothem racing. Kind of interesting never heard of a persian super car lol (even though it's build in the Uk).

yummy bud

the rx 7 comes in 3 main shapes.

series 1 to 3 1978 to 85 Or generation 1

series 4/5 1988 to 1992 Or gen 2

series 6/7/8 1990 onwards gen 3 the car in first pic is either a 6/7 not the newest

the engine is from a mazda cosmo a 3 rotor not 2 like the 13bs that come in the rx7s..

8K for a vw must have been in very good condition for that you can buy a series 5 Turbo rx7 with recent engine rebuild.. I dont know why but rotarys are soo cheep theses days cosidering a series % back in 1989 sold for $50 ooo odd base model.. Might have something to do with the engine lasting only 100k if your lucky..

That night racing vid i posted has got me in the mood to go down to the track this weekend..

Yummybud
03-19-2007, 09:44 AM
the older rx7s are butt ugly. I assume the series 6/7/8 got the newer body style like that pic.

the rx7 was an japanese copy of the porsche 944 (what it competed with) it was much cheaper than a porsche 944 though so it sold really well, it was less than half the price.

true that, the feel of a great car is sometimes better than the feel of a great woman. only sometimes.

don't knock the Yugo-i had one a few years ago. It cost £50 did 10,000 miles /gallon and started first time every time through a bitter winter. I did nothing to it all the time i had it-then the front wheel bearing went and turned out it was going to cost 3 times the cost of the car to get a new bearing:( not sure if that was before or after NATO bombed the factory

anyway my dream car...........i'm not down with all that fuk the police buisness -but if they broke down a bit more often it might not be a bad thing eh?

it's not like i don't like driving..
but in my city the people don't know how to drive.
if i make it to age 30 without plowing my car into some asshole and pulling his body out of the burning wreckage to beat the living shit out of him, i'll be a lucky man.

driving out in a more rural area would be fun though.

Wolfspider - Nice Bugatti, that's the fastest one around right?

I still like the Pagani Zonta convertible in terms of expensive looks,
In terms of affordability tho, I'd probably want a Lotus Elise...

Of course when I purchase this fine automobile I will have to convert it to run on a healthier fuel, so I don't club so many seals.
I'll also probably have to never mention it on here if I do get one, because it will make it very very very easy for someone to narrow down my location, due to the fact that you could count the number in my country on one paw.

P.S. For all those nuts who are going to tell me its a '65 look again closely.

yeah now they only need to build you a private road made for your bugatti so You can reach 400km/h.

bugatti again is super cool but I don't really want one because it's pretty useless, you're never going to get anywhere close to it's top speed unless you're committing suicide

and the transmission only lasts 10-20 hours? is that true?

I'm guessing the people that own that thing don't even drive it much at all, just want to say they own a bugatti.

i stand corrected if they do ,but the report by clarkson said they cost over a million to make and that they wont be going into production ,the cars were made as an experiment

I'm pretty sure they allready sold them , check that link, some guy totalled his bugatti in the UK

People who have the money to spend on a bugatti spend more time on a private jet than driving their cars.

My dream car doesnt exist. I havent built it yet. :joint:

hazyfontazy you are correct.

Production = 5 cars
Loss per 5 cars = £4,000,000

It was entirely done for marketing purposes and as an engineering excercise. I think its fantastic that these people are willing to kill money just to see what they can do. I like people who push the boundaries of what is possible.

At its top speed the fuel tank will last 20 minutes, but that doesn't matter because the tires will explode after 15 minutes.

SM

P.S. to confirm - yes they did sell them, for the 1.4 seconds it took, lol

Second hand parts are notoriously difficult to come by on the Veyron.

I remember going to see the new Mclaren F1 when it came out. Next day the half million pound car I had been looking at had been wrapped around a lampost by an engineer on a way to a show.

The sort of people who buy these cars are interested in how big its going to make their penis look. Where do I sign?!
