i actually was in Ghana about 30 years ago. (1976 to be exact). to say the weed there was incredible would be an understatement. I obviously don't know if it was sativa or indica, but I can safely say it was the most incredible reefer I ever smoked. I was there from about septemeber until about november or december, and it was just incredible.
many is the time i would awaken, as if in slumber, to find 2/3 or 3/4 of a joint still between my fingers. The taste was good too, although what I remember most was the potency.

yeh I just have to visit Ghana one of these days - the music there is just incredible - so funky it is plain ridiculous, and everyone I know who has been there has great things to say about the place and the people - and the sensi
for people who like their West African tunes, esp. people who collect vinyl, you should check out Soundway Records from Brighton, UK
they have plenty of compilations and great re-releases of vintage afrobeat on vinyl from 70s Ghana, as well as some other great 60s/70s West African sounds from Benin and Lagos inc. some rare George Pino afrobeat

hey LD - my pleasure :)
I don't suppose you have any pics from that visit do you? I would love to see them if you do
I can also recommend The Rough Guide to the Music of Nigeria and Ghana - there are some inspired tracks on there too (a couple of dodgy ones, but on the whole the RG music series is quality)
Ghana is a classic case of a country which has so much to gain from legalising ganja -
I wonder if a realistic attempt at genuine legalisation (regulation and taxation) could best be begun in a small country like this?
One issue is that the real benefits would come from a genuine global (or at least EU) legalisation, where clearly Ghana could become a significant exporter of quality product
still, contrary to what many people will tell you, the UN treaties are not binding - any country can opt out if they so wish
I have heard that some of the modern strains in Ghana can do very well under lights - I expect that indicates at least hybridity with something Dutch or NA, but the results were meant to have been spectacular all the same

imagine funky beats like these fused with a JBs bass line and you are some way towards Ghana afrobeat

I have smoked a fair bit of West African Sensi when I used to go to a West African social club with some African friends back in the 90s, incredibly funky is the right word for both the herb and the music. Ghana is nearthe top of my list of countries to visit. I just received some seeds of a Ghanaian strain called Jahwis Joy from a friend, looking forward to trying it out. I would love to try the Accra Skunk, heard good things about that one.

3 Jahwis Joy babies are growing in my outdoor northern garden (between 50°and 45°). Seeds are coming form Esben bros.
They are still little but have a haze look (very thin blades), almost the same than pure sativa Thai I grow this season for comparison :pimp3:
I hope to cross it with Purpurea Ticinencis if possible (the only strain without mold in my rainy mountains).
More news and pics later.
Peace, Phil :bandit:
very nice phil, wish you best of luck with that. cant promise you miracles, only thing i know of this strain is that its straight from ghana, from a local ganja bush man. i know pato is growing it to in chile.
Whats the daylight hours in Ghana like?
Im thinking about growing some of the Jahwi's Joy beans in my micro-cabinet that phil is talking about.

I know of 4 strains from Ghana, Esbe's Jahwi's Joy, the Accra Skunk zamalito talks about, an unkown seedline a friend in London has that he obtained from a friend who went to Ghana and a cut (may exist in seed from too) that was grown by some rastas in Bradford back in the 90s that I nicknamed Black Star after the famous Ghana football team and cos it had almost black dark foliage. The London seedline produces plants that look very like traditional Jamaican sativas and I reckon it shares the same S. Indian background as Jamaican sats. The Black Star was a very narcotic smoke, the kind of weed that caused you to spend all afternoon staring into space nodding slowly to dub reggae, those rastas loved that cut and said they had had it for years.
hello everybody,, I am fom Chile. Peace and keep growing

:rasta: I saw this thread and had to say hello.
Hello :jump:
Good subject Jin.
Thought i could add my 2penny's worth.
I have visited Senegal and Gambia, for at least 13 years.
You could say i have family there.
The majority of the Ganga comes from cassmas area. But only when you vist this place you can you sample top smoke. Basically 'cos you can visit the farmers home.
Last time i went, and visited cassmas must of been 5 years ago. There was still tention, (long story short) Ganga/independence from North Senegal (i think).
Wonderful Weed of W.Africa. :rasta:
Jahwi's Joy, landrace Sativa from Ghana.
9 weeks, 12/12 from seed, under 2x55W compact fluoros.

Hej jrw!
How's the high on these and what kind of feeding do they like? I'm considering popping a few.
Hej jrw!
How's the high on these and what kind of feeding do they like? I'm considering popping a few.
Only had this one female, so not a very big data fundament.
The high is less creative and energetic that I expected. On the other hand, I consider the effect of cannabis to be very relative to a lot of other factors than the actual smoke, which opens up the possibility, that my very expectations of a VERY sativa high made it feel less sativa.
I grew her in organic soil (blood, bone and kelp) at 1/3 recommended strength. She got VERY pale in the end, and here in my next run, with other strains though, I have upped the amounts to 40%.
Good luck with the Jahwi Joy's - I had a blast growing them. Tall, lanky, easy to bend, fast growing and good yields. Note that I grew her under a mere 110W compact fluoros...
