Others have great success with these. I personally did not have much luck with them at all.
BG uses them with excellent results so I would check with him.
I have better luck with the rapid rooter starter plugs but I may be the exception.

To be honest, I killed about 15 beans before I switched back to the rapid rooters. I didn't do alot of research after that, I just changed.
PH levels may have everything to do with it, I don't know.

Personally I just stick with Bogs soil mix all the way through... with extra magnesium sulfate :D good luck and I have lost many many a beans from those blasted jiffy fackers.... good luck :D

i was wondering if you could fill the supplied hole with some soil....i considered starting a seedling in a groden RW cube with the hole cut out in the middle...fill the hole with dirt (your choice) ...and i was wondeirng if that would work??/ would the tap root eventually anchor itself tothe rock wool?

I use the Jiffy Peat Pellets with great results. I soak seeds in wet paper towel/plastic bag routine for 24 hours. I remove and poke a larger hole in Jiffy's. Place seed in, and cover with soil. Place in tray with humidity dome and place it under flouro's.3-4 days later, you will see sprouts. Success rate is 100%.
I also remove the netting and rinse roots very carefully and place into my hydro table, in 1" RW cubes.
The humidity dome is key IMO, as have tried without, and they dry out too fast.

Ok, there is nothing wrong with Jiffy Pellets or pots. I use them all the time and this is how i use them. I germ my seeds in a paper towel in a ziplock bag. I put the ziplock bag ontop of a warm dark place. Around 24 hours i have either 100% or most of them craked open or root tail sticking out. Once this has happen i place the seeds into presoaked jiffy pots. I place them about 1/4" down in the hole and cover the hole lightly. I stick them in a tray with dome and place the tray on a heating pad a women would use for what ever pains. I noramlly seed them pop out of the top soil of the jiffy pellets in a day or two if the seeds were crakced open when placed into the jiffy pots. There are no problem with them and i use them all the time. I normally use Rapid rooter like TK, but can find these locally. I like them and will use them till i have a problem. If there is anything else you need to know, please feel free to ask.
Good Luck

No problem, and if you do have a problem. Just PM me and i'll get back to you on it. Remember this, soak them and ring them out some. You do not want them soaking wet. This will rot your seeds and then your screwed.
Good luck and take care

ok well initially i read this post and was like w/e
but i was co-incidentally ordering from BGhydro.com and i decided hay let me try my hand at this.... im currently trying to root a seed into a small rock wool cube..i figure hey this is perfect for my experiments.... do jiffy pellets work?? im curious too many growers have used them to success and ive seen sick roots out of some jiffy pellets myself....so ill be getting them in about a week ill post my results then...i plant to root a Spice Of Life adventure mix or two into them...*_*_*_crunks*_*_*_*

They work and I've had some tape roots out the bottom in two days and i mean a long root totally out the bottom. It will be good to see your little test and i also started one also. After reading this thread and posting a coupl of times. I took some cutting of my Female Thai and Female Blue Satellite #2. I will post the results as soon as they pop roots. This will also show you how well they are for cloing also.
Good Luck on your Test crunks

I am going to try them for clonning next time instead of these $20 for 72 plugs but cannot bitch about these they have helped root my clones, never used jeffy for starting seeds.

I've used Rapid Rooter in the past and still have some. Wheni had hard to root strains, like my Big Bud i had. They would root in the Jiffy pots without any problems. The rapid rooters would take forever. I'm not saying Rapid Rooters are bad, I still like them and use them, but i prefer and have had good luck with Jiffy pots. Why mess with something that is working well.
Good luck

I've tried the Jiffy7 quite a bit and have great sucess from seed. I would hae to agree it's the humidiy dome that helps with the germination and initial sprouting. I germed a few beans in the humidity dome in paper towel too, germ time is identical and the seed is already in it's initial growth medium when it sprouts. If you transplant before the root pops out of the bottom, zero transplant schock as well. I take the netting off before repotting. Less resistance to the roots when the plant gets ready to do some root preading, Just soak 'em till they're expanded, then into the dome.

Well i germed athose seeds all are looking very health they are on their second set of leaves. I found that they seem to sprout more tap roots then the paper towel method.

....at least in the bottom. I've seen roots that has kinda like a bottleneck where it passes through the nylon, and I'm sure it would be better if it could grow fat'n wide, totally unrestricted.
BTW, it was not MJ I observed this problems. It was sallad, basil and raddish.
I think it's best to do this before the roots enter the net. Don't wanna hurt the fine hairs when lurking the taps outta them small small holes....-so cut the bottom off at least, and split the net when you replant if you're not able to remove it all.
Go on. They're quite nice except for them being so damn thight. Nylon doesn't wither like organic material either. Should've used something else to wrap the peat, and hold the pulp inside.
Well, I'm off now :abduct:

Jiffy's don't work very well for cloning. The pellets work good for seed, but you need to loosen the material before placing your seed in there. They just don't have enough air for cuttings to root rapidly.
Nothing beats rockwool for taking cuttings.

the 1st clones i ever took were in2 jiffys, and i never lost any yet, but im early on in my cloning career, if u say theyre no good CC, i believe u, cos u grow the shit m8, and i mean that in the good sense.

I have always used jiffy pellets for seeds and cloning. I use Dowzer's method and have never lost a clone.

jiffy pellets are ok i used em for a wile but they tend to mold i prefer to use to fish tank air pumps and 2 bubble wands (long airstone)and a pop bottle or rubbermaid container then all you do is plug airstones into pumps. pumps into wall. airstones in water(make sure bubbling) then place cuttings in bubbles between 1/8-1/4 inch in water i use straes cut into pieces then sliced down side this is important because once roots form they cannot be pulled out again so you must cut straw before you put clones in or right before you take em out i like to do it firs be cause the roots are fragile and its nice to have the straw cut already so i can justslide them out.
i hope this is useful to somebody
thank you

I have seen good results from jiffy when germing seeds, however,
when cloning, instead of dipping the clones in rooting powder and into the pellets, I make a mixture of rooting powder, superthrive, and water, then put the dry pellets in the mixture. This lets the pellets get full of the good stuff. And yes the dome is a must.
I have not been able to clone for a while, there is nowhere in town that sells them, wal-world, home deport, lowie's they are all seasonal and won't have them until the spring:mad:

similar to ur method joe, instead of just putting the clonex on the scraped stem of the cut, i put sum on there, and just as i am going to put the cut in the pellet or pot, i drop a blob of clonex in the hole and put the cut in str9 away, then pinch it shut around it.
