View Full Version : How important is Humidity?

My grow room maintains a 20% relative humidity. I have a humidifier in there and she pump through 3 or 4 gallons a day and the humidity level never raises any more than 1 or 2 percentage points. Is there a way to maintain the proper range that I don't know about? I have read that low humidity contributes to infestations and other things. Any ideas or comments.

Ideally you should be looking at 50% humidity throughout the grow,,, dropping to lower levels in the last couple of weeks flowering (to help prevent mold)

I suggest you cut down on the ventilation if the humidifier isn't making a difference.

...and YES,, low humidity is the PERFECT environment for bugs,,,Spidermites for one!!

Wow I didn't think there was such a thing as to much ventilation. I do vent alot to keep it cool.

Thanks

no problem ;)

The plants themselves should put moisture into the air (assuming they're big enough),,,and 3-4 gallons a day through a humidifier should make big difference....shouldn't it ?
The only way it can't be helping is if the air is getting replaced in the room too frequently ( with the very low humid stuff )

It works the same with heat. It doesnt matter how fast you're taking it out of the room if its not being replaced with cool air.

Oh,, i just remembered something.( who says smoking effects the memory...lol )

I had problems with low humidity (15%),,,,but sorted it without the need to cut the ventilation. ( and my ventilation is overkill for the size of room :D )

.. and buy a "fogger".

I'm glad you started this thread Mr. Mo.
It got me thinking about spidermites, so i'm using my fogger next to a Blockhead mother i'm rearing. Its not so much to increase humidity for the plant (though its pretty low at 35%), but more as a spidermite deterrent.
The lil fuckers (if they're about) will hate it :D

Hello all,

Ah,um friend- I gotta question your use of a bug fogger in the absence of bugs.

Aside from a waste-the the bug bomb won't do anything to deter them and it only lasts 24 hours before it degrades.

Try a No Pest Strip for a long lasting deterrent.

As to your humidity issues- perhaps yoru humidy gage is wrong- I know mine is in my cab.

i've had 1 grow where the mites would only attack where the dehumidifier was(so i can see how the mites just loved it there). But what i've also noticed was that if i left my humidity go up to 50%ish untill 2 weeks before the chop, that the buds became stretchy looking. so that lead me to think that if i kept the humidity up for the perpose of growing my plants taller, and then dropping it dramatically that i would have long FAT(hard*not strechy)buds. ... just a thought.. :D

minds_i ~ Its not a bug fogger, its a garden pond fogger. There are no chemicals involved. Nothing is going to degrade in 24 hours.
It's a lil contraption with a ceramic plate which vibrates at high frequency to produce a constant very fine mist.
Apart from anything else, it looks cool as fuck when you're sat there stoned,,, watching the fog gently rolling around in the breeze...lol

thanx for your concern btw, but my humidity guage is fine.

Buahahahahaha

I am stoned- I see now.

Still if you have mist fogging the inside of the cab- your humidity should be higher I would think.
