View Full Version : Buddha's Sister, Cali-o 2nd grow

Was hoping to be able to document this grow better, but life had other plans :pointlaug Late August I transplanted most everything I had vegging into big pots to get ready for flower. Had to use grobots for a while to do the watering and had a bunch of casualties... all the goo, all but one Buddha's Sister, and some older stuff.
Anyway who are the survivors? The 2 cali-o's hung tough and hardly missed a beat. I flowered at 10" and they are at 20" now 60 days flower. There are a few amber trichs, was hoping to hold out until roughtly 25% amber. Here's some pics:
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357calio1-2-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357calio1-2.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357caliobud1-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357caliobud1.jpg)
They were fed seaweed ferts in veg and PureBlendPro Flower, Microblast, Topmax in flower. This week I started noticing a bit of the orange smell... yum. I was thinking maybe another week ( flushed them a week ago ), but it could be 2. The front plant was LSTed and the back plant was supercropped.
So far I've been going for multi colas on a 20" plant. The BS I decided to veg until 16" shooting for 3.5-4' final height. I supercropped her heavy, and used Nitrozyme foliar spray twice in veg and once in early flower. Day 21 flower and she is looking pretty good and 21" tall. A little light on Mg I think, so gave her a dose of Microblast tonight.

Hi Dr D - thanks for stopping by. Doing ok now, thanks! I'm curious about the BS too - she looks to be tight budded already! With any luck I should be enjoying Creamsicle cali-o vapes for New Years!
Sleepy! Howzit my friend?! Love yer puns man! Funny you should mention the vape. My second aromazap had some problems - the wood on those start to shrink as you use them - after some research ended up getting a Silver Surfer Vape - that really puts the afterburner on the Barbie. Very nice vape for those that need a less expensive alternative to a Volcano. So Santa arrived a little early this year.
The microbrews, deep dish pizza, wreck and ssh are up front, dig in and hep ursef...

gog - so glad you stopped in! Yeah, those cali-o girls are very tough. Thinking of revegging the back one if I can make room for her. Thanks!!! Here's a cola closeup from day 58:

Consumption is up this fall :yoinks: , I have to forego the tomato / veg grow ( well, maybe one cherry tomato plant ) this winter and grow me sum-moh 420. I have a couple of clones going - c99, kali mist, morning star - thinking it might be a good time to germ a few amnesia99 or lifesaver.

Glad to see you posting mate  Looking good so far  You're a little ahead of me on this run mine are only on day 36.
I'll be getting some Amnesia99 on soon too so we might have a head 2 head grow :biglaugh:
All the best

gog - ahhh cali-o. Haven't smoked it yet - I've been tempted! At this point she is frostier than the trainwreck, they really bulked up this last week. That back plant's colas are just a bit thicker and frostier, I agree I should definitely reveg her and then start a clone war :yoinks:
Alex - Thanks for stoppin by and the comments!!! After I post this gonna look for your thread.
Because of time and other things haven't done a seed grow yet. Got plenty to try in the fridge. Decided to bite the bullet, put 3 Amnesia99 and 3 LifeSaver seeds in water to soak for a day. Would be fun to do a tag team on AM99!!! :woohoo:

Let us know what you think of it, in a few weeks of course. :) Clone wars sound good :D I think the LifeSaver sounds even better :yummy: Hope you get a killer pheno. Im gonna be germing some BMR soon, not for a couple weeks though I think. :chin:

gog - definitely, will put up a smoke report, hoping for that orange creamsicle flavor... Still have to write up a smoke report on the TW and some nice bud another user asked me to write up. Hope to get caught up on those this week.
The TW in a nutshell - days to harvest didn't mean much with the extended training and nute problems. 1/2 taken around 62 d and the other half at 82 d. All were taken when there were a small number of amber trichs on most buds. Both batches taste and hit the same ( even crispy after 2 month jar cure ). Nice lemony / minty / musty smell and taste, very smooth but she'll bite my lungs if I take a full hit. Starts in the head, shortly the body starts to relax and the pain relief begins.
I might not get the rare blue lifesaver pheno, but I'm sure it will be good no matter. I don't have any heavy indica around, so this is gonna be my knock out med. Ripen until 25% amber and it should have a George Foreman punch :bat:
Man Alex - you are fast! Ok, were on our way! Gonna be fun...

Very nice Bushes. Which one IYO worked better supercropping or LST?
Mr GreenJeans
12-07-2005, 06:15 AM
FJ - Welcome back to casa grassa... MMMMMMM NH MMMMMM. maybe we can chat tomorrow morning my time before lights out your time.
Hi chemchris, thanks for stoppin by. They are very close in size and branching, although the supercropped one has thicker buds by a little bit - I'm thinking that's more of an individual plant difference rather than type of training.
My take is if a strain does just about as well either way, I'd rather supercrop - takes less time.

Took a couple of pictures just before lights on, using flash and flourescent light. Man they look different out of yellow light! Here is the best cola on the supercropped calio 66 days flower, followed by a shot of the Buddha's Sister crown at 27 days flower.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357calicola-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357calicola.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357BS128d-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357BS128d.jpg)
From the looks of the Calio in this light, she looks done - but very very few of the trichs are amber. If I can wait a bit more :drum: they're really gonna look like redheads!
The Buddha's Sister's buds are growing very quickly, should be a decent yield.

that plant on the right needs 2-3 more weeks IMO.
Mr GreenJeans
12-07-2005, 09:28 AM
Hi POd - thanks for stopping by!
Probably a bit longer - she's supposed to take 65-70 days, and she's not yet 1 month in flower. But if she's faster than that I won't complain :yummy: !
The Calios were started a month earlier and should be done by now, but they're taking their time. I don't mind too much, the longer I wait the fatter she grows.

Germination report:
12/5 Lifesaver and Amnesia99 3 seeds each in a cup of water with Liquid Karma.
12/6 Placed in paper towel moistened with water with LK, baggied with air blown in and set over the ballasts of the flouros in the veg room.
Today - all 6 have 1/4 inch tails! Planted in pots tonight.
Kudos to BOG and JLP for the fast germing seeds!

Alex - glad you like her, me too! I'm hoping for the sour cherry pheno, we'll see soon...
gog - thanks, beginner's luck I'm sure :biglaugh: I put 'em on top of the soil and covered 'em with a pinch - we'll see how strong their necks are :yoinks:
bONZ! Thanks for stopping in! 70 days makes sense. The club told me 60, hmmm - NOT! Last night there were a few more amber trichs - day 68 now. so 70-75 looks like it. Definitely plan on revegging one of them to keep around for another grow. Thanks much for the comments!!!

Thanks! You know me, I love germs :yoinks: 6" snow would about do it
The bonsai - thanks for asking :friends: ! - were very good to me this fall - even with a hands off approach :yoinks: Have to transplant a bunch this winter - a friend voumteered to give me a hand :woohoo: , so they should be good to grow on another season come spring. That birch I'm training:
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357trainingbirch-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357trainingbirch.jpg)
filled that 5 gal bucket with roots this year - there's no soil left, looks like one big loofah sponge :pointlaug: . I'm looking for a 10 gal pot to put her in for another year, and will probably air layer the trunk half way up this spring to get 2 trees out of it by next fall. The lower half will then go into a teensy weensy pot ( boy is that plant in for a surprise :bat: ).

Man, thanks for the pic - awesome cola! Memories indeed!!!
PN - thanks for the comments and stopping by! And for the opportunity to post more pics
The veg area is the low tech part of the grow. In a cubby hole in the basement with just enough room to veg the plants to 16" tall, under 2 4' flouro fixtures, one 6" fan.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357tw_6-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357tw_6.jpg)
Flower cab is where I put all my efforts. Wedged into a small basement space, it's 4'9" long, 3'3" deep and 5 '10" high. Pics below:

That box on the right side is a filtered air intake with a 20x12" opening. The internal opening:

Hydrofarm light on a 3.5' long light rail with a 600W Hortilux HPS bulb, and an Elicent 309CFM fan. With everything closed up and the light on temps stay in the low to mid 70's and at night mid 60s to 70s.

Since these shots I added a 6" fan hanging in the upper back left corner pointing down to keep the girls breezy...
The only thing I'd like to add is a 150 MH light to the flouros in the veg area, to get them a little beefier in veg.

Wanted to put up some pics tonight, but other things came up today and tomorrow. So hopefully early in the week. The AM99 and LS have all popped and lifted their heads an inch above soil. The 6-8 week wait begins...

Hi Alex
Supah dupah! :canabis: The tag team grow begins! The vigor continues over here too, already showing first true lieaves last night, and stretching out to the light. Sitting 1-2" away from the flouro next to the cloner.
The MorningStar is getting close to height, she'll go into the cab when I pull the cali-os. I have a couple of Kali Mist clones planted on the 3rd that are now at 4 nodes - fimmed 'em. They are backup just in case ( given my most recent track record - call me Dr Doom :sasmokin: :pointlaug )
Out of town most of the weekend, hope to take some pics at lights on tonight...

gog - boy do I hear ya. I feel lucky to have enough space for the cab, sure would be nice to have a bedroom!!! But good enough...
Ok, snapped some pics.
The cali-o will go into the dark for 2 days Wed. Didn't hit me until tonight how empty the cab will be - don't want the BS to get lonely :nono:
Here's the MorningStar. I originally got her in Feb, finally got a clone of her to take, transplanted her into a 3 gal pot 10 days ago. Want to get her to 18" or so before flower, she's almost there. I'm putting her in the cab during lights on to get some high intensity rays, then switch her to the flouros when the cab is in the dark.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MornStar_14in_side-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MornStar_14in_side.jpg)htt p://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MornStar_14in_top-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MornStar_14in_top.jpg)
Since it will be 8 weeks or so until Lifesaver or Amnesia99 plants will be ready to flower, I also decided to take one of the KaliMists and get her ready to flower. She's 6" now at day 10 in the pot, also basking under the HPS in the cab during lights on.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KaliMist_1_day10_veg-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KaliMist_1_day10_veg.jpg)
Now the seedlings, day 5 in soil. Lifesavers - Amnesia99s.

Thanks! Everything in my grow has been Cali clones except the Lifesaver and Amnesia99 from seed.
At lights out this morning put those 2 sexy ladies in a dark corner for a couple of days. Missed it under the HPS, under flouro about 20% amber trichs.

Hey POd, I move mine around every couple of days in flower however fits best with the light, doesn't make a difference
Mr GreenJeans
12-15-2005, 10:42 AM
Hiya bonz! Thanks for the compliments! Scheduling - well, appearances are deceiving. The cab is a bit empty now as you will see, my timing is a bit off, but not too bad. :bat: I know I'll be tempted to overfill it, expecially if I get better than 1/3 females from the seeds :biglaugh: You have a great day too!!! :friends:
POd - I move my girls around all the time. With a light mover I don't move them as much, I used to turn the pots 1/4 turn a day. When I water I shove 'em and lift 'em all over the place. :chin:
Pulled the cali-os this morning and put them in a dark corner of the basement. The Buddha's Sister looked all alone, but not for long...
Here's a shot with some overnight guests visiting during lights on.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357EmptyCab-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357EmptyCab.jpg)
Lotsa room in there now...
First up the Buddha's Sister at 36 days. The buds on this are already getting pretty plump. I left a few very low buds in case none of the clones root, I'll reveg her.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357BS_36day-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357BS_36day.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357BS_36day_top_bud-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357BS_36day_top_bud.jpg)
Next up the 2 Kali Mist. Since giving them 12 hours HPS for a few days, tonight I noticed some faint yellowing, so foliar fed them 1/2 str thrive alive and 1/2 str liquid karma. Looks like they'll be ready for a mild feed next watering.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KaliMist_Day12_Veg-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KaliMist_Day12_Veg.jpg)
I was gifted two C99 clones :woohoo: They're the same age as the Kali Mist. The larger one I started LST on, the other will be a mother.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357C99_day10_veg-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357C99_day10_veg.jpg)
Bringing up the rear are the Lifesaver( in back ) and Amnesia99 seedlings.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS_AM99_day7-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS_AM99_day7.jpg)
The am99 on the far right is now a bit shorter :badday: She took a spill, one long healthy tap root, so as long as I was replanting I buried a bit of stem.
So although the cab is not very full, there's still plenty to do. The MorningStar is now 16" tall, another couple inches and she stays in the tanning booth. maybe by this weekend.
Have a great night folks!

Thanks POd! Don't know origin, they were clones from a med club. Bonz - which calio did you grow out?
The MorningStar hit 17.5", so I flipped her to flower tonight. Hope she gets a little bigger than the BS - she only stretched 5"!!!!! - thought it would be more. :bat:

New pics tonight.
First the BS day 41 flower

MoningStar day 2 flower - I trimmed her to only 4 main branches. Have 2 clones of her rooted, and 2 more waiting in the cloner.

Next up the KaliMist. I have a little problem here. When I started giving them 12 hours of hps each day, they developed brown spots and leaf curling, don't think they're overwatered. I'm thinking it's a K deficiency? Foliar feed with 10% seaweed fertilizer 5 days ago... not worse but not improved... should I hit them with 20%? It's a few days from the next watering. Or is it another problem?

So far so good... Thanks for any ideas on the KM!
I was wondering if ya gave your KM a shot of N. ferts jus before 12/12 ? The reason I ask is cause I have a pheno of blueberry that looks just like that when it gets fed with a N. fert. containing urea (grow big in my case). lol I forget once in awhile and give them grow big anyway and the picky lil bitches do the same thing every time.I'm not sure if this is your KM problem but the symptoms(sp?) look the same. good luck wit'em... take care...BC
Mr GreenJeans

Hiya B.C. - thanks for stopping by and sharing!
The KM aren't in flower yet - they're on 12 hps + 10 flouro veg - trying to see if them extra lumens will beef them up. They're 16 days old from clone so I've only had to water once / week, and a couple foliar sprays with Liquid Karma. My bad - I should have mentioned that the shots on the right were meant to show fim results ( did them both 10 days ago )...
No furthur marking or curling of leaves, I guess I'll hit them again with a 10% foliar, then light fert next watering. We'll see how it goes...
Jarred the calio tonight - about 1.75 oz per plant - not as good yield as last grow, but I'm very happy with 3 oz. Took a small bud for a test - nice head / body mix, but too green yet to get a good taste. A bit of tangerine aroma in there, with a lot of hay... Here's a sample...

Hey MGJ
Sorry to hear about your KM Problem :badday: My AM were sensitive to nutes but not to that extent. Those dots might also be from too much sulphur, as suggested in a thread in the sick plants forum  Check it out maybee that's the one for you
Mr GreenJeans
12-22-2005, 09:35 AM
FJ - thanks for the compliment - I agree  these look better than the TW last grow. I dig the high, very nice mix of head and body, potent, gonna be very tasty with a little more cure. Waiting on the reveg so I can grow them again a bit bigger. Tomorrow IM?
Alex - hmmm it's looking like a feeding problem now. Happens when I supplement with or switch to the 600 HPS. I'm a bit gunshy about higher concentration nutes ( too many years starving bonsai :yoinks: ), both the calios and this BS need a lotta nutes, with all those lumens they seem to need the heavy feedings. I fed the BS 5 days ago with 4 cups of flower nutes at 1000 ppm, they greened for a few days, then edges started going yellow again. I goosed her to 1500 ppm and I bet she'll be fine - this is what happened with the calios too.
The KM's are looking better tonight, and old enough to get a feeding once they dry out, I sprayed them with another 10% veg fert foliar spray ( seaweed ), waiting them out.
The seedlings are into their 3rd set of leaves, looking very green and happy.
Will get more pics up by Sat....

Well I'm really carefull with the feedings this time round too after having the claw last time :badday:
The G13xNYCDxG13 had some mag def but she's ok now, well pritty much finnished anyway. I think I'd still rather settle for a little bit less ferts as it's easier too add some than once you've overdone it :joint:
Quick dried some Apollo Mist last night for a test smoke :D She's got a good 10 days left but oh my does she rock :yoinks: :D :woohoo:

Alex - I sure do agree with you, would rather under than over fert. I need to keep a bit better track of my feedings though, and hit them a little earlier with the lighter feeds, I think :chin: :chin: :joint:
Now some more pics. Ran out of room in the veg area, so I had to make an impromptu veg area for revegging the 2 calios and a trainwreck that came close to dying in flower.

A few things to report.
Did a bit more reading on Kali Mist, got a little concerned and put the biggest one in flower now ( she's 12" ). Hard to tell from grow reports, but will she more than triple in size? Took 5 cuttings and stuck them in the cloner.
The Amnesia99 and Lifesaver are 2+ weeks from seed and growing well - checked the LS and they were root bound already, stepped them up to a larger home, need to get some intermediate pots tomorrow and do the same with the Am99. I've kept the Am99 under 12 hour flourescents since the beginning, they are showing very tight node spacing which kind of suprised me.
The LST'ed C99 was complaining her home was too small - transplanted her into a 3 gal pot, now just wait for size and flower.
The Buddha's Sister is still a bit underfed... hit her with Microblast + PBP Flower mix - about 120 ppm Microblast and then PBP to make it 1600 - yesterday, hopefiully I'll know better by the end of the week. Took a soil pH and she's hanging in there at 7.5+, I pH her food and water to 5.8. So far she just looks to have a big apetite :yoinks: , hopefully nothing I'm overlooking.
Looks like I'm going to be scheduled for hand surgery within the next couple weeks. We'll have to see how many of my girls I knock off off this time :yoinks: :bat: :dueling: :biglaugh:

That KM - flowered her at 12", got just shy of 4 feet worth of height to work with - not enough? I'n trying to decide on the other one if I should flip her at 6-8" :chin: Hmmm, better start practicing my Boy Scout knots :biglaugh:
The plants are doing pretty good - a few of them I was a bit late to repot, and they started complaining, but they seem to be recovering fine now. The reveg plants are interesting - waiting for the new green - the old buds sure look dead now :yoinks: not quite 2 weeks so there's a bit of time to go.

MGJ I think you should change your name to MR. greenthumb nice grow.
Did you get your cali-o clones from BPG? I have seen them there but never tried them yet( maybe I will now).
I have also seen the morning star clones there. Do you have any info on them ? Asking quetions about the clones at BPG is a waste of time, nobody really knows anything about them.
Hope your BS comes out good I am not too impressed with her , she isn't very potent. She has been curing for over a month now. I think I will have to twist one now and see if she is any better.
Happy New year

 GCG - thanks for stopping by!
Yes, got the cali-o clones from BPG. They were great to grow. Last grow was a bit hands off for a while, and those girls where the only survivors - very very tough. They do suck up the nutes though, especially magnesium. With so-so conditions I still got 1.75 oz off each 21" tall plant. Very easy to manicure. Now I love Trainwreck - the smell, taste, high. I think the cali-o has her beat on smell and taste. Much stronger aroma and taste. I can see why folks call it tangerine, but not quite. Very fruity, very different. Very up high at first, on the way down I sink into zzzzzzzzzzzzland... :biglaugh:
Morning Star, I haven't found much about it either. Here's a bit by Strain Searcher:
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=13240&highlight=Morning+Star
From what I have seen flower is somewhere around 55 days. Mostly sativa with quick flower. We'll see soon enough...
With the BS I've seen mixed reports, I'm guessing she might plump up at the very end if you leave her long enough. Or at least that's my hope, again we'll see soon enough! How long did you flower yours?

I grew my BS in myGH and pulled her around the middle to end of Oct. I am not a very detailed person and I don't take notes ( a very serious character flaw of mine). She did plump up the last week or 2 though. fed in a back corner and her yield really surprised me.
Thanks for all the info on cali-o and morning star. Any info on the clones is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the BS info gcg - that's very good to know. Will be happy to share what I find on the others, it'll be all here...
Meanwhile back at the ranch, after Sleepy's gentle reminder  , fear of gigantic Kali Mists arrived, so she got bent :dueling: Wired her, bent her to half size ( 6" ) and wired the laterals to horizontal 1/4 circles. Similar lst done to the shorter one too, and that one went into flower today. Looks like all the KM cuttings are rooting, won't have room for them all, so I'll do an experiment: take one a few inches high and throw her into flower to see what the stretch range is flowering right from rooted clone.
The flower cab is now filling up, with 1 BS, 1MS, 2 KM and 3 AM99 now in permanent residence.

First seed grow, amazing how quick the LS and AM99 are growing. Plan to take the bottom 2 branches from each to clone when they get long enough.
Speaking of cloning, finally getting some consistent success. The water was souring too quickly even with good aeration. I must have some vigourous spores or something in the basement, if I don't change the water every 3-4 days the water starts to cloud and the rootlets start dying back. Frequent changes, adding some canazyme to the water, bumping the temp to 78 ( figured I might as well since I'm changing the water often ), and giving them a 12 hour lighting cycle all seem to have helped and most seem to take now :woohoo: Just in time for cloning the LS and AM99...

Hiya FJ! Thanks for dropping by! I am round eyed looking at the am99 and lifesaver plants - they are growing fast - I notice a daily difference, and they are just starting to smell sweet.
Hiya Alex - thanks man - shouldn't be much of an ordeal, and you're right, I'm flush with good meds now, so no worries! Day is set, 1/17.
I'm sure your am99s will perk up quickly now that you're back. Very vigorous plants! It's been just short of a month they've been planted, hoping they will show in another 4 weeks.

The seeded plants are growing fast. One of the am99 is a bit bigger than the other 2, wonder if this means anything male / female wise???

Because of the sudden change in the % of successfully rooted cuttings, I have way more girls than I can deal with - what a great problem to have!
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KM-MS-C99-BS-clones-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KM-MS-C99-BS-clones.jpg)
Besides these there are a few more in the veg area. Giving the morning stars to a friend, haven't found a local home for the KM yet - remember I have another 2 in the cloner!!! I'm half thinking to take 2 and do a mini-bed planting in a 4 gal pot and just put them to flower to see what happens. The 2 front Buddha's Sister cuttings are an interesting story. They've been in the cloner through 7 hairy weeks, never growing a root, just getting an occasional foliar feed of Thrive Alive 1/2 str + Nitrozyme 1/2 str. A week ago I took them out planning to toss them, but the stems - although brownish - weren't mushy at all, had very good turgor. So hit them with honey and put them in soil, surprise surprise they started growing 5 days later. They're quite petite little girls now, but hopefully one will survive to be a mom and I won't have to reveg the plant in flower.
An interesting story. The flower cab has been running a bit hotter than I expected the last 5-6 weeks, temps in the high 70s, that's what I had for daytime temps this summer! Long story short this morning I went looking in the basement and found a few leaks in the heat duct manifold as well as 2 feed tubes that had partially come apart - both at their top surface where it's not easy to see from below - and dumping a good portion of our heated air into the basement. 1/2 roll of metal repair tape later and the basement is now an expected 60 degrees, flower cab temp is 72, and the house is toastier than ever. Without the garden and being in the basement daily I probably would've missed it until some cold night in the bedroom wondering why there's no heat!:biglaugh:

Thanks GOG & MGJ, the lil ones pulled through fine  I thought they would, but I lost some last time round and at this early stage it's hard to do anything about it :bat: :moon:
MGJ, are you using a T5? Yours are growing a lot faster than ours :yoinks: I've only installed 3 fluoros but I don't think they have a very high wattage :chin:
Looking good anyway
We seem to have the opposite in temps :D Our basement is around 3-4°C making the cab very cold at night and not much hotter during the day :yoinks: It's added some nice colour to our plants thought, the VBS has gone black :biglaugh:

Hiya Alex
I hear ya on the young plants - your mojo must be stronger this round! :biglaugh:
No T5 here... They're sitting in the flower cab full time already, soaking up the hps. The Lifesavers are getting 12 hours hps and 12 hours flouros. The rest of the plants vegging are under 2 shop flouros.
Yeah, we get pretty wimpy winter temps here, rarely getting to freezing outside, so our winter basement temps are rarely below 16C. Black VBS!!! :woohoo:

Thanks GOG & MGJ, the lil ones pulled through fine  I thought they would
We seem to have the opposite in temps :D Our basement is around 3-4°C making the cab very cold at night and not much hotter during the day :yoinks: It's added some nice colour to our plants thought, the VBS has gone black :biglaugh:
I knew they would. My area gets some gnarly winters too. I pretty much have to run my lights at night always, because in the winters its too cold and in the summer its too hot. What can ya do though
How much longer are ya gonna be veggin the lifesaver?.. not to much longer eh, theyre getting big :D Can't wait to see them in bloom.

gog - the LSs are only 6" tall so far, wanted to veg them until at least 15" aiming for a 3 foot plant. They're only a month old, so maybe in another month? :chin:
The am99 are already a bit taller, they've been on 12/12 since their first taste of soil. Both plants have honking big leaves compared to what I've grown so far.

The lowest leaves on the lifesavers have been slowly losing green - gave them a light feeding of seaweed + Microblast total 400ppm last week, hasn't helped. So this afternoon I transplanted them into 4 gal pots. I was amazed to find them starting to get rootbound already! :yoinks: 10+ root circles around the perimeter. It's only been 10 days since the last transplant...
Probably will have to do the same for the am99 soon.

gog - amazing - must be the bogbubble in 'em...
Buncha gotcha's ( or gotme's ) in this update. :bat:
1- Don't save on your Nitrozyme foliar by refrigerating it. Some strain's leaves don't like it ( am99 no problem, ls - burns the leaves ).
2- When in doubt, cross check your pH readings:
The Morning Star was having undernute problems in early flower like I've been getting in late flower. 2 days ago the newer leaves started curling severely, she's been looking a little down in the K and Mg for a couple of weeks. pH tested the soil - 1/2 cup distilled water pHed to 7, one tbs soil, mix, test with Hanna meter - tests pH high 7s. Something didn't jive - the Hanna cals out fine. Bought a cheapie stick in the ground pH tester and :yoinks: just under 6! That number makes more sense. Ok, flush time. Top dressed 1/4 cup dolomite lime into the top inch of soil. My tap is pH 8 so 3-4 container volumes flush with that. One gallon chaser light Liquid Karma / Cannazyme. Did this also to the plants that were having early nute problems. Lesson learned - sometimes cheaper and simpler works better, and I better start adding more dolomite lime to the soil. Couldn't get the same soil I used last grow so switched to FFOF... Now to watch and see if the new growth looks better.
3- My wife - life bless her - told me the way things were set up was too labor intensive especially where my right hand will be on a bit of vacation next week... The veg girls that I want to get big I move into the flower room for lights on every day, then back under the 2 shoplights. She suggested I move the plants to another space and add a better light to avoid hauling plants around every day, give me more room in sq ft and height, and offered to pay half for the light. My lady does not smoke, did I mention I think she's a sweetie? :biglaugh:
Picked up a 250 MH remote ballast with an inexpensive hood and setup the new area. Enough vertical height to veg 20-30" plants, enough room to add more plants to the mix. Plenty of light now, and the plants seem to love the extra blue lumens. Me too...

gog, fj, gcg - thanks for dropping by!
gog - so much good written about the ffof, figured I'd try it. More reliably available here than what I used for the TW. At some point though I might try mixing up something with Black Gold, it's everywhere around here...
fj - yup, life can get pretty busy, but it keeps things interesting! We'll catchup on im soon I'm sure...
gcg - the only morning star is the abused mother in the flower cab, unfortunately she suffered the worst pH burn of the bunch, quite stunted, so I don't know if it will be a good yardstick for you. I have a few more cloning now and plan to put another one up when some room opens up in the cab. Meanwhile more pictures today where you'll see her. So far the only odor I notice is the Buddha's Sister since she's 67 days today and ripe. If I get close to the MS I can smell them for sure. The fan is venting the cab enough so I don't smell the plants outside the cab, but I have the Vaportek on standby with a fresh 120 day cartridge, ready to rock and roll...
Have to go off some precribed meds for 3 days before surgery, so today is the day. Guessing I'll get a bit stiff between now and Tues, so I'm putting up the week's update today. Things are looking much better since the flush - growth is picking up and green and less leaf curl on all the ladies, don't think I lost much on most of them development wise except the MorningStar as she's more than halfway through flower... Oh well live and learn.
Full cab pic:

Back row left to right - MS, BS, KM2
Front row - KM1 and the 3 am99. The am99 and km2 were transplanted yesterday into 4 gal pots.
Here's the MS - her larger leaves have straightened out a lot, a week ago she looked like she had borrowed my wife's curling iron :pointlaug . The leaves immediately around the newer bud sites are still super curled. Gonna let her finish flower and just watch, will have to keep a close eye to make sure she doesn't go transgender on me :yoinks: If she doesn't I think it would be safe to say this strain is hermie resistant.... If she does - chop chop chop...
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357ms-1-27d-flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357ms-1-27d-flower.jpg)

They're also doing much better. They didn't have as much leaf curl or brown leaf as the MS, and the new growth looks pretty normal except for a small amount of curl at the tips. With the longer flower time I think these will turn out ok.
Buddha's Sister - day 66. She's almost ready. I'm planning on letting her go until day 75 or so unless the trich's suddenly go mostly amber. Right now she's got a few here and there. Definitely has a sour aroma, but not really smelling any cherries yet.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357bs-66d-flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357bs-66d-flower.jpg)
Her 2 clones looked stalled, so yesterday I took them out of the peat pot figuring on changing them out to FF Light Warrior to see if the fungi will help with their roots. Well one had a small very wispy root mass, and the other had none yet! Sheesh her leaves look pretty good color, I was suprised. They were stalled in the cloner so long I feel lucky I got one to root. Anyway, I'll hopefully have a working young plant one way or another.
The only plants in the cab that haven't shown any problems are the vigorous and beautiful am99s - day 37. 1 and 3 are the shorter pheno, 2 is the taller pheno.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1-day37-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1-day37.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-2-day37-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-2-day37.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-3-day37-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-3-day37.jpg)

Teresa - thanks very much for stopping by and your kind words, means a lot!
gcg - thanks very much my man, keepin my fingers crossed.
This will be the last update for a few, tomorrow's the day for getting my right wrist worked on...
New growth on the flushed plants continues looking good. The Lifesavers have started showing alternating nodes, and should be declaring themselves soon - looks like I have 3 phenos - a taller very bushy one, a shorter not quite so bushy one, and a short even less bushy one. Still waiting for the other 2 am99 to show their sex. Buddha's Sister will probably go in the dark Thurs and chopped next weekend.
Until later - take good care one and all - thanks for looking - see you soon...

Aloha issack - thanks man!!!
Ok, first day back. Surgery went ok, took care of the problem, now just have to finish healing. Hav a bunch of pics from last night, for a couple of posts...
First post, I need help. Soil looks to be burning some of the plants again. Flushed the Kali Mist, Morning Star and C99 plants on the 10th, gave 'em 3x container size flush. They just got dry enough to give a first drink last night. As they got dryer, the leaf symptoms coming back again - some pics...
Morning Star has it worse of the bunch. At this point she's more of a survival experiment.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MS-day35-flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MS-day35-flower.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MS-day35-flower-cola1-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MS-day35-flower-cola1.jpg)
On Mon there was juist a bit of discoloration along the edges of the leaves.
The Kali Mists are slowly doing the same - some of the newer growth is starting to curl and dry, and the bottom leaves are getting that by now familiar speckled look.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KM-1-day25-flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KM-1-day25-flower.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KM-1-day25-flower-bottom-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357KM-1-day25-flower-bottom.jpg)
The C99 in the veg room is still doing ok, here are a couple of pics - the lower discolored leaves are all that's left of the preflush problem, the newer growth is looks good to me so far.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99-lst-day49-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99-lst-day49.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99-lst-day49-bottom-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99-lst-day49-bottom.jpg)
So my question - what to do next? At this point the MS is an experiment, but I'd like to straighten out the KM and try to figure out what I'm doing or not doing... :bat: :chin: Should I do another full flush, flush with dolomite lime + water...??? Break out the blow torch :yoinks: :biglaugh:
Next post will have pics of the Amnesia99 and Lifesavers. Thanks for lookin!

What kind of water do you use as your base? and do you use any mag. supplement?
also,
What size cans are you using? Look similiar to what i use, a 7 gallon wide mouth custom-can..
It may be in your best interest to let the roots take to the medium a bit more.....go a bit rootbound, before flippin.. they look a bit stressed on account of moisture..
have you cut them back at all lately? Cutting a plant in half without adding proper enzymes to break down dead root mass can result in that type of moisture stress. (the curled leaf all the way back like that)
...they also may need more of several secondary nutrients... also check your bloom fert.'s potassium ... and pH of your runoff, the moisture retainers can sometimes throw things out of whack so watch that. pH being out of tune can seriously FUCK SHIT UP causing lockout and if extreme enough, can kill a plant before it even has a chance... luckily you're not in hydro, soil gives you much more play.
other than that stuff im *dyin* to see your buddhas sister -- still comin' down monday? :)
be well :lurk: good stuff

Sleepy, thanks my friend! In a wrist cast for a week, and a little sore, but definitely bothers less after the surgery than before  And thanks for your input - think you are on the money...
Capt Jack - thanks for dropping by and the recommendations! They're in 4 gal pots, have good root mass, and this grow I've become a cannazyme convert. Think the problem was over nute - or is it over nuke... and pH... On the Sista - gonna be either tomorrow or monday, will take pics and put them up. Itching to taste her...
Bonz - no worries mate, time flies by too fast for us all! Very positive here, finally getting some good relief, Mongo like relief  Thanks for the positive vibes!
Double checked the meter, only minor cal adjustment. With some help from Barbie and her Jeep :D hauled the 2 kali mist, morning star and c99 out for another flush. Flushed with tap - pH 8. First runoff on the MS was pH 6.5 - ouch - pH8 going in pH6.5 out - must've been a bit acidic... also the EC on the first runoff on her was 1.6 :pointlaug - double ouch. The others were a less acidic and EC of 1 or so. Flushed them with twice as much water as last time, and then a final 1 gal flush with pH 6 + cannazyme + 1/2 str topmax. Did some poking around in the soil with a skewer - roots are all through the pots on the MS and the older KM, the younger KM and the C99 have roots more than 1/2 way around, so hopefully they won't miss much. I planted 3 MS clones today to take another go at her later.
Now the rest of the plants. First the Am99s at day 45 - plus closeup of the first signs of sex... First seed grow, so could be mistaken, but looks like all three are girls???!!! :chin: That would be a piece of luck! 3 slightly different phenos:

gog - yes each pair of pictures is a different plant - planted 3 am99 seeds and haven't killed any of them yet :bat: Before I shrunk the last pistil shot the female-ness was more obvious but it's not as good a closeup as the others, the third plant's flowers look like the top 2. Tonight I took 2 lower branches from the 3 am99 and the 3 unsexed ls and stuck them in the cloner...

Ahhh - the Buddha's Sister. Couldn't get to her until today, and down she came. Thought I'd try something different this time and trim her before chop, and then chop and hang her as a whole plant to slow down the drying a bit. So here she is harvested on day 75 flower. POd, thanks for stopping back in! Yer absoferginlootlee right. That C99 girl is stayin in the veg room for a while - she's about 10" tall now, would like her to get a bit taller before flower. Maybe even 2 weeks more under the blue light...
Hiya Alex :canabis: Thanks much man - I have to admit that despite complaints folks have about modern medicine, they do certain things real well
Yeah, got a lot of plants in the hopper this time :D Partially to offset my high infant mortality stats :bat: :o: If I have better than 33% female on the lifesaver, it's gonna be a crowded cab soon :biglaugh:
A strange thing on the ls - 1 plant has 7 fingered leaves, the other 2 have some 9 and 11 fingered leaves. Will have to see which are the girls....

How true - got the go ahead to take the cast off myself yesterday :woohoo: as not moving the wrist was getting it way stiff... Wed I go to the office to pull the stitches and get his take on it. Fingers crossed - whoops! Careful! :bat:
Went over my notes last night, and think I figured out what lead to the pH and plant burn so early this run. Starting 1/2 way through the BS flower, I started adding 1/2 str MicroBlast once a week. As a preventative :asskick: :nono:. I better keep the micros out of the picture unless it looks like they're asking for it :bat: Like my sleepy horticulturalist friend states, less is more ( thank you my friend ). The timing fits perfectly, we'll see soon enough if this was part of the problem.

Yeah the lighter probably worked that wrist like a Bullworker...
Your plants do seem to have that nute lockout feeling...
I had the same thing going on..flushes fixed the problem...
I really wet new soil alot before I use it especially Promix...
they pack it in so tight it is still composting in the bag..still feels warm...
Although there is no added fert to Promix when it's new..the first runoff shows huge TDS readings..
I'm thinkin you might have salt build up..When I flushed to fix the problem I used Clearex a flush additive,
by Botanicare (still packed up or I would look) with the first water added...
it really helps to break down the salts and has sugars in it glucose and succrose I think..
good for hydro, soil or soilless...I'm just guessing but basing it on the fact
you have multiple symptoms...I'd just flush it and then
not water till they are screaming for it..I think Soma said using a buffer in the
soil like dolomite then adding water with a low pH like say 6.0, then allow the
buffer to slowly move the pH towards neutral as it dries out..Since different
nutes have different pH levels at which they uptake optimally..at least that is
the way I understood it.. just food for thought...

packn - thanks for taking the time to post all that info. I believe you're right, flush those excess nutes away. Good idea on the clearex, hadn't thought of that for a flush this early. Since I've had to do it twice, the clearex would've helped. Gonna have to pick some up next time I drive past the hydro shop. Hoping putting some cannazyme in the final gallon of flush will help with the soggy roots problem... :chin: Thanks again! :friends:

Yup - the Lifesavers are really bushing out, fingers crossed I get a couple girls.
KM1 started crisping again so I took the 2 km and ms out for one last try at a flush. Still a lotta ppms in there, but km2 and ms was able to get down to reasonable pH and ppms 300. KM1, poor girl, first runoff was still 1000ppm+ :yoinks: , was able to flush her down but her soil pH is hanging in the high 8s despite soaking and flushing with ph 5 water. Will have to see on this one... learned my lesson :bat: , no scheduled weekly feedings or I'll kill 'em with kindness. Wait until they ask for their meals....

I remember the Fuller Brush Man back in the days of the door-to-door salesmen..
I think I learned the nute lesson as well...They did real well, by me being lazy and checking them before

I think I have a ph problem aswell :badday: I refuse to buy a ph meter though I'll just have to sort it out another way. Hiya Alex
Yeah, a bit busy - could do with a bit less flushing :bat: :biglaugh:
Yes, the am99 were 12 hours from the git-go. They measure 17-18" ( 43-45 cm ) and are 55 days in soil. How tall were yours when you flipped them? Betcha they start showing in the next week.
pH issues must be all the vogue this month, all the best folks are doing it :spank: :biglaugh: Sorry to hear it hit you too, not the most fun I've had in the garden... Haven't reused soil in the cabinet yet, but have outside. I rake it out to get rid of clumpy stuff, give it a light water spray, cover it with thick black plastic and let it cook a couple of weeks in the sun. We never get a hard freeze around here, if I don't try to sterilize the reused soil the plants have a sickly season....
C99 lst went into the flower cabinet tonight, she was vegged for 55+ days. Lotta potential pineapple-y bud on the near horizon :yummy:

Weekend update
The MS and KM1 are getting chopped this weekend - too much to recover from. I'm tempted to also can KM2, but after the last flush the aroma started getting strong and I like it!!! Haven't smelled anything quite like it. So I'll keep this one for now, if it starts flagging again one of the KM clones should be rooted enough to grow out.
The rest of the plants are doing great, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Hi Sleepy - thanks my friend! :friends:
Interesting development tonight. Pulled KaliMist 1, and rather than just dumping I checked out the rootball. Rootball was small, barely larger than the small container she was in while vegging. That gave me the idea to transplant both the C99 lst and KaliMist 2. C99 is only 5 days in flower, and the KaliMist has at least another 60 days. Sure enough, both plants had very small rootballs. Loosened up the roots and put them in fresh soil.
Now my question - does this suggest I'm not giving them enough water when I water them? I've been trying to give them just enough to last 2-3 days. Should I routinely be giiving them enough water to get a small amount for runoff each watering? :chin:
Lifesaver 2 and 3 - males...
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS2_day9_flower_male-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS2_day9_flower_male.jpg)h ttp://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS3_day9_flower_male-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS3_day9_flower_male.jpg)
Lifesaver 1 looks to be a female, but too small for me to get a good shot.

Plants look great my friend, you'll sure love that Amnesia99, I had my doubts while flowering out the motherplant but after the harvest...whew....I always water the plants when the soil is not completely dry and I always water them so that the runoff is around 0.5 liters...anyhoo, looks nice man!

As far as I know you're supposed to water till you have a little run off  I generally give mine around 0,5l every other day (or 3 days depending how they look) and they seem fine with it.

 HeyMGJ I think what your problem is , is they are not drying out enough. If you let your soil totally dry oput the roots will grow out searching for more water. Do not water so much that you have runoff everytime. Figure out how much water it takes to make it runout and then cut back from there. If you let the water run out every time you water you are flushing your nutes out.
Just my 2 cents

Hi FJ! I'm psyched on the am99, such a beautiful plant, filling in very nicely. Not much odor to them yet, do they smell like haze or c99 when they're done?
Hi Alex! Nice to cya, hope all is well. Haven't tasted Kali Mist before... Looking forward to tasty blastoff buds...
That's 2 votes for more water....
Hi GCG! Thanks for the ideas. They definitely weren't getting too much water before I had to flush them - from 2-4 cups at a time and only when they were pretty dry - they had been in the larger pots for at least a month before trouble started happening. After the flush they definitely were moist, but they should have sent down roots in the month before the flush.
Ok, I'll give it a try with a bit more water each time and see what happens... Just have to pay better attention - I put a calendar in the cab to jot down notes which plant got what and how much on each day, looks like the only way I'm going to be able to get on top of this problem...
Since I only had 2 cuttings of the female lifesaver - still rooting - I took 4 branches close to soil level for cuttings, plan for a mom and another 3 plants to grow out next.
Thanks for the ideas men, sure is great to have experts around  :friends:

Hiya gcg  - no, the Monring Star was cut, too stressed / burnt out to have much of anything to smoke on it. I have one young one left in veg at 15", just transplanted her tonight into a 4 gallon pot, will put her in the cabinet in a week or so and try again. Looks like you'll be sampling your MS before me!
Hiya bonz  doing good man, thanks for the compliment! Am99 is JLP's Amnesia99 strain - AmnesiaHaze x C99. First time growing out C99, I was surprised she's as viney as trainwreck, bushed out well with the lst.
FJ, I'm more and more amazed every day!

are the repotted ones doing better?
any root rot?
has your pH stabilized?
how is your wrist?
when are they doing the other one? (or are they?) :chin:

Hiya Sleepy
Thanks for rolling up your sleeves and pitchin in! Temps are 69-73d, rh has been in the low 40s. The c99 repot didn't miss a beat, the kali mist repot slowed down a bit but looks to be picking up on new growth now. The roots looked and smelled healthy, so no rot. pH definitely stabilized with the new soil - put them in 1/1 FFOF/FFLW with a bit of guano and lime.
Wrist's doing better every day, still likes being iced down, and I spanked that surgeon's hand and said no more cuts for you :biglaugh: . He did a great job, so I'm only joking, no other surgery needed :woohoo: Thanks for asking!
garlic - no problem man, hate to admit that I'm no stranger to killing plants, so one more or less is no big deal, as long as I have others flowering out. That poor little MS was so toasted and delayed that the Amnesia99 will probably finish before she'd be anywhere near ready :yoinks: . I'm happy you were able to give them a good home!

Hiya Zamboni!
Yes, the buddha's sister was a clone from a Berkeley club. Harvested after 75 days flowering, she smelled a bit sour and a bit like ???fish???. Only been a couple weeks in jars, a wee bit of cherry smell is just starting to show. Not as much cherry as I was hoping for, I'll give it another month in the jars to see if she fruits up more...

I like watering around the outer edge of the pot till run-off..so the water has
to soak it's way to the middle and the roots want to grow out to the water..
then I let it get pretty damn dry until the next watering, however long it takes..
I think when the roots don't have to work to find the water, the ball stays small with no incentive to grow out... :chin:
I would think on the double-pots only the bottom pot would get water..I'm still not convinced about dp's..
Seems like the bottle-necking effect of the top pot would hurt more than the tap-root distance added helps..
Since most roots grow in a mirror image of the plant ^ roots v are usually wide at the top...who knows..
The plants seem to be doing good in there.. :yoinks:
All theories but seems plausible to me...
You know me MGJ..I'm like you..still trying to figure it all out..and as confused as the day I started..
but the results are good..and I have jars of premium smoke in the closet :woohoo:

Hiya packn! I currently have the exact same opinion you do on the watering. I'm watering toward the sides of the pots, trying for a bit of runoff without overdoing it. This is the 2nd time I tried double potting and I don't think I'll fool with it again. Haven't seen any benefit over large single pot, and it complicates the watering until the roots spread into the larger pot.

I agree, it does complicate watering because you don't know how much of the water from the top pot is draining into the bottom pot. So how much water do you give the bottom pot  Doublepotting worked very well for me a few grows back though, and in a bind I personally would probably double pot over transplanting after switching to flowering. That being said, I see alot of people who don't have a problem transplanting into 12/12 so who knows really. Really depends on how hardy of a rooter you have too. Some strains will shake off a transplant within a day (or won't even show any ill effect) while others will take a few days to perk up.
Enough rambling though :D

 Hello MGJ those A-99's are looking sweet, looks like you are getting a handle on your grow.
Zamboni Driver I grew a Buddah's sister from BPG in berkeley and the smell of mine was comparable to NYCD a sour acrid taste with a very skunky smell. My BS was lacking in potency ( very disappointing because she grew nice fat dense greasy buds). I don't think I would give her a run again because of the potency JMHO.

Hiya gog!
On those doubles this grow right now I'm giving 7 cups of water around the perimeter of the bottom pot and one cup in the top pot.
I don't think the plants miss much if the rootball is intact and only the outside rootlets are combed out. I figure if there's 6 weeks+ to go there's enough time for the roots to stretch out enough to make a difference. That's a guess - not enough time under my belt to know for sure...
Hiya Alex!
Thanks man! The am99 are 19-21" tall, yours are definitely going to be bigger. The buds started swelling up around 3-4 weeks after they first formed. You're gonna get a great yield. If my cuttings take I'd like to do another few next run and veg them to 8-9" then flip. Same for the lifesaver - I'd like to grow another 2-3 and let them develop more before flipping to flower. Neville's sounds killah, I'll be watchin :lurk:
Hiya garlic!

BTW
>in a bind I personally would probably double pot over transplanting after switching to flowering.<
Had an interesting chat with a botanist at the local university about roots, and brought this up. He said if you pop the plant *intact* out of the pot, plunk it down on a bed of soil, and surround it with fresh soil, you're getting whatever root saving double potting achieves - plant shouldn't skip a beat - and there is more soil surface for furthur root development. He thought the additional height of a double potted transplant would not matter, the slower root development affects the plant more than the extra vertical soil.
Sounded so familiar I was half tempted to ask him if he his nickname was Rez :biglaugh:

Good info MGJ. Something Ill definately have to take into consideration on future grows. Even BOG has abandoned the double potting method I believe, and he's the one that I got the idea from.

Sorry you're a bit down - step into the back room and suck down a pint of MGJs Trainwreck / Calio / Kali Mist patent medicine - if the canna's don't pick you up that alcohol will put you out!!! Cabs doing great, although still a minor problem as will soon be revealed.... Looking forward to checking out your new system... :friends:
Gog and Sleepy, you're not alone in the world of soil problems. I'm very confused... :chin: I noticed the lifesaver was starting to slightly yellow at the leaf edges - but I fed her a week before - 500 ppm PBPB + 50 ppm added MGSO4. Water with a little runoff didn't show much - gave her a flush and at the end of 3 gal pH was ok at 6.3, but 1600 ppm!!!!!!! She has only had 2 feedings in the last 3 weeks first one at 400 ppm PBPB. Flushed another 3 gal and brought the ppm down to 540. Then decided to check the am99 as I've been having some leaf changes - YIKES even worse!!! Flushed the 3 of them 10 gal each, got them down to ppm 500s also. These girls were also only fed twice in the last 3 weeks, also with less than 500 ppm PBPB.
The rh has been real low - 35-41, could the plant be transpiring so much water it's concentrating the nutes to this degree?
Anyway bought a small humidifier to try to get the rh up in the 48-55 range for now, will flush the c99 lst tonight since she's having leaf problems too.

HMM never thought about that. I have a pretty low RH myself, lower than you MGJ, 20-30. :chin:
I wonder if that can actually happen. I would think that the plant would just suck up the nutes while it was taking up water... but the more I think I know, the more I realize that I don't know much.
Some food for thought for sure.

Hiya gog
Well it certainly has me baffled too. How does the EC get so high - I can only think of adding stuff in, or concentrating stuff that's there. Either way, another mystery, the plants were doing better last night, already darkening green areas, so it's good. I'm starting to think I should give them a flush once a month as a preventative...

I usually feed for two waterings (in soil 3/4 strength) and the on every third watering I give only seaweed and water, and what comes to my hydro stuff I add 10 litres of water/nutes (3/4 strength) once in a week and change the whole shit every three weeks, worksvery well.

Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of. Until now when I first saw nute def symptoms on the leaves I would feed. Now I'm thinking I should check soil conditions first and not assume to feed until I know for sure.... Definitely will post how it goes...

So Im flushing as we speak, and all I can say is :yoinks: Water going in 75PPMs, water coming out, 1100+ PPMs. GOOD LORD! Im starting to think that my recent problems have been a result of overfeeding. Thanks MGJ I think you may have solved my soil issues for me.
I bet youll be playing in the water before the end of the year, DWC is so easy and cheap to build you might as well slap one together and give her a whirl, if you have the space  Ive got a DWC bucket just begging to see some action :chin:
EDIT: After getting done with flushing, the problem was MUCH worse than I originally thought. One plant actually had a reading of 5000+PPM :yoinks: UNBELIEVABLE!!! I can't even believe that my meter goes that high...
Alex-F
02-23-2006, 12:08 PM
Sorry for being dumb (and lazy :D) but what's DWC?
I've been thinking in the hydro direction the last couple of weeks too. I don't htink I want to take the step though. I'm not as fortunate to have a prescription or anything like that as it's still illegal here and I'm thinkling that a busted hydro grow will cause more problems than a soil grow. Purely because hydro signals criminal intent with regards to producing large quantitys.
I might get myself an automated watering system though cause watering takes up far too much time :D

Deep Water Culture, ie. an airstone in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket :D
I don't think hydro would have any more implications than soil. In many states its plant numbers, in some states its weight, there may be other factors but those are the ones that Im aware of/concern me.

gog - I'm very happy I was able to help out. Sounds like you had the same results I did. Pretty astounding, huh? Considering I *know* that you haven't ferted with 3000+ ppm, pretty amazing how high nute levels can go. :bigeye:
Yup, I'll likely play with a bucket this year, could always do just one for testing. Looks more daunting than it really is I'm sure.
Hi Alex - I'd think once you know how much water they're using, you could dial in a grobot to water them. They did a great job while I was away on vacation last summer even though the girls were in late flower.
Busts are always a concern, even here. You must do what you think is safe.

Hiya lewistherin
The Buddha's Sister is in the cure jars - sample after a month, she has a sour-ish composty aroma, and a sour-ish taste with a hint of an unrecognizable tropical fruit, but no cherry taste. Like my friend garlic city gro's girl, the potency just isn't all that. I can get high on it, but it takes 3x as much to get the same buzz as others I've grown. I probably got a lazy pheno... Don't plan on growing her again, now that I'm in love with amnesia99!
Hiya gog, FJ, Bonz, Sleepy - thanks much men! Just think what a world it would be if all the world leaders would synchronize smoking a spliff at break time!
Might be away for a few days, family member needs some help, time for paying back past debts.... Stay well!

Hey MGJ I had to try my BS again last night to see if the cure helped the potency at all? Well after smoking a 2 paper joint I had to pack a bowl of my Ogre to get high. Buddah's sister in my opinion is BS. Not worht growing unles you plan on breeding her with a more potent male.
I noticed (like you said before) a real strong fishy taste and smell to her no skunk or cherry taste at all. That taste stuck with me all night, it wasn't real pleasant.
Hope everything is well with your family

Some amazing grows here Mr GreenJeans :yummy: I admire your work.
I bumped into your thread when I was looking for other Cali-O grows. I'm excited because I just bought a pack of Willy Jack's Tangerine (California Orange X Chronic). Your Cali-O pics are amazing. This will be my first time growing something other than a DP strain, and I hope Willy Jacks genetics are up to par. I also hope the Chronic side of the plant helps pack on some extra weight, though your Cali-O plant looked nice and chunky enough.
Thanks for the pleasure of getting to peek into your garden, keep up the good work eh!

Hi Teresa
Thanks very much for your kind words my friend! Yes, those girls have never seen more than 12 hours light a day since birth... I was thinking last night tending the girls that these are by far the best genetics I've grown, makes the med clones seem average at best.
Thanks to the folks that sent good wishes, surgery is over, the patient is doing well, another few days of extra care duties then things should be back to normal.
Weekend update:
The Amnesia99 are 65 days flower today, they are still bulking up, trichs are mostly clear. Maybe another 7-10 days. Day 60 I took 6 of the smallest interior buds for a sample, let them dry over my cable box overnight. All I can say is WOW, I'm impressed! :joint: 3 vape hits and I was pretty blasted for 4 hours

Hiya gog - yeah, the am99 is amazing me too. Went in there tonight and they've bulked up more since Saturdays pictures!!! Tonight I'm thinking it may be a bit longer than 10 days - day 66 and still bulking up with new calyxes, mostly clear trichs. Either way I'm very happy with how they're doing.
Yeah, I chatted with Bog about LS a while back and one of the phenos hardly stretches, guess this is the one. My first indica grow, need some knock out drops in my stash for when my late night rubber mallet just aint enough :biglaugh:

Weekend update:
The AM99 are getting close - the newer trichs are still clear but the older ones are mostly cloudy with a rare amber. I'm planning on chopping them mid to late week. By looks alone, am99 3 - the more cindy pheno - seems to be the biggest yielder with am99 1 close behind. My eyes have been fooled before, so I'll let the scale make the final decision.

Mr GreenJeans
03-21-2006, 10:16 AM
Hiya Bonz - just missed your post last time... Thanks for saying hi! Yes, a99 and speechless seem to go hand in hand for me too!
Lifesaver is the first indica I've grown, I really need a stash of knock me down on the couch rock-a-bye baby indica, so I really don't mind the leaves. Pretty clear to me now why indicas are described as leafier than sativas :yoinks: Cya soon my friend!
Hiya Alex - great to cya man! Thanks! You are going to be amazed at the yield on your girls, they really pack on the weight the last couple of weeks. You're gonna be grinnin big time mang!
Hiya zigzagman! Thanks for stoppin by my little garden and for the compliments. No, you're not trippin. My first plants I was overly concerned with plant height and LST'ed and pinched to excess, then trimmed out the bottom third. Now I don't pinch and twist them quite as much, and instead of completely trimming the bottom 1/3 I take the inside bottom 1/3 budsites off early in flower and keep the leaves...
Alex-F
03-21-2006, 11:29 AM
I really do hope they pack on some weight :D
I've taken the lower 8 shoots of my fave A99 off and stuck em in jiffys as clones. I've only cut one clone before and that survived in a jiffy so I think they'll be ok  It was a cutting of our last VBS which I was quite impressed with so I cut one of the lower budsites off whilst harvesting. I must have cut too much off as it's taken the poor thing nearly 3 months now to start growing again :biglaugh: But hey, it's growing again so that's all that matters.
I've also got 3 Skunk#1 out of the Sam the Skunkman freebies in veg at the mo, will be quite interested in how they turn out :chin:
Take care & keep up the good work

Couldn't hold myself back :biglaugh: pulled am99 1 and 2 at day 73 flower. #3 is the more cindy pheno and most pistils are still white even though she is very frosty, almost 50% clear trichs, will let her go until Sat.

 Hey MGJ those A-99's are looking sweeeeeeet!!! Your head should while now. :sasmokin:
Did you have problems cloniong the Morning stars? I took 9 clones about 3 weeks ago and only 1 rooted. I took 11 clones of my BBW's and 11 of 11 have rooted in about 12 days. Did you find the MS's harder to root?
Keep those pics coming I love watching
GCG
Mr GreenJeans
03-22-2006, 08:35 PM
Yeah Garlic - the MS were a little finicky to root, I thought it was just my technique was lacking. This is what worked for me. I did a little bubbler cloner. Used tapwater, added 1/4 strenght Hygrozyme or Cannazyme ( done it with either one ), kept the water temps 75-78F with a heating pad, changed the water every 3 days ( otherwise I got slimed ), and put them under a 20 something watt flouro lighting 12/12. Doing that I had roots in the normal 7-10 days. If I eliminated one factor they take forever. Next set of clones though I'm going to try Gf3heads wick cloner just for the greater simplicity of his setup. For now I saved one clone mom of the MS for clone testing.
Thanks and props back to JLP for the seeds, clearly a fabulous cross!
Hmmm, 11 bbw's - :yummy:

Thanks for the tips my friend. I got 1 to root so far, but 8 are not even close.
As far as the BBW's go pop those beans I gave you they are pretty stout. My friend has a bunch in veg right now and they are looking good. The only thing is they are hard to germ. You might try scruffy up the outer shell. I hope you understand waht I just said?
Thanks

Hiya Blue - thanks for the compliments! Well, my second grow at the start of the thread, the current plants are my third run, I 007'ed most of my second run :badday: :pointlaug
Smoke report, got an early report from barely dried 60 day sample nugs: mmmmm sweet rotting grapefruit smell, grapefruitish spiced holiday candy taste, very smooth and creamy for no cure, mild expansion, clear head, relaxed but wakeful bod, long lasting.
Hiya Sleepy - can't get Victory Barbie to sit on my lap in the Jeep  :yoinks: :biglaugh: :chin: Maybe if I gift her a blunt??? :chin:
Hiya gog - oh I'm a big fan of a post harvest blunt too - I was getting light in the head thinking of 8 3 foot am99 with 4" thick colas light saber battling 3 monster skunks spewing a sickly sweet fruity smell all over Alex' basement! :biglaugh: Pass out quickly - what's that :bat: , havta wait for some of the lifesaver, hope she'll :bat: to lala land late at night...
Meanwhile - viagra + oxygen tank = act like a 25 year old :hotbounce
Hiya Garlic
You might want to try 1/4 strenght flower nutes with no nitrogen in a foliar feed, they also don't like a lot of light when rooting. Maybe they just need a bit more time.
I hope to grow out the BBW this fall - I have a trip away this summer, will have just enough time to grow out one more clone run of am99 and lifesaver. When I get back from the trip gonna germ some seeds and see what pops up, the bbw is part of the plan for the fall grow.
Heya - you gonna be up around here sometime in the next few weeks?
Later folks

Hope you enjoy smoking those babies, and as always I'm looking forward to watching your grows.

Weekend update:
Amnesia99 #3 day 78
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-3_day78_flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-3_day78_flower.jpg)
This one must be leaning to the hazey side and not the c99 side. 78 days flower and she still has maybe 1/3 clear trichs. Will wait a few days more on her.
Meanwhile am99 1 and 2 were placed in paper bags yesterday - sample bud and closeup
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1_bud_drying-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1_bud_drying.jpg)http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1_bud_drying_closeup-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1_bud_drying_closeup.jpg)
Lifesaver 1 day 57 flower. Frosting up nicely, another week or so on her.
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS1_day57_flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357LS1_day57_flower.jpg)
C99 lst 54 days, c99-2 34 days
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99lst_day54_flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99lst_day54_flower.jpg)ht tp://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99-2_day34_flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357c99-2_day34_flower.jpg)
C99-2 is doing much better than the lst, the difference is I flushed her as soon as I saw leaf changes.
MorningStar 2 day 34
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MS2_day34_flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357MS2_day34_flower.jpg)
Much better than my previous attempts, still room for improvement, but this one looks like she'll make it to harvest ok.
Am99 1a and 3a day 8 flower
http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1a3a_day8_flower-thumb.jpg (http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/2357am99-1a3a_day8_flower.jpg)
First 2 of the new run, the stretch has started, 1 inch in the last few days.
These next girls are in veg waiting for height to go to the flower cabinet.
Lifesaver 1a and 1b

Side shot of the vegging girls.

The am99 only has an inch height to go, the lifesavers have a ways to go since their mom didn't stretch much at all.
Have a great weekend!

Hiya Bonz
Thank for visiting! Yup on the Fiskars shears. Thanks to recommendations by friends here at the end of my first run. Spring loaded trimmers are SO much easier on the hands... I love 'em! Hmm - never thought of gulping down a fresh dried bud... hmmm maybe I better try a bitter bud soon....
Drying - I hang them for a week, then into open jars for another week, then close the jars and burp 'em once a day for a week, then close 'em up. This time on 2 of them I'm also trying paper bag for a week instead of the glass jar, just for something different to check out.
Thanks for the kind words bonz - here's a peek at the am99-3, she has another couple days to hang. They look like they're almost ready to jar.

Hiya Teresa!
Thanks very much for your kind comments mi'lady! I'm psyched watching you grow some bigger AM99 girls - I think this strain has the potential for nice long colas. A breeze to trim too!
And thanks for posting so many pictures of your garden - every picture I look at helps me know what to look for in my own... :friends:

No vendor by that name yet MGJ just check Dezy's thread out and you will see what I am talking about. Pretty funny you came up with that out of the blue.
Yes we will have to meet up after the cure hopefully we can test mine too.
