Not into belts but I really love BJJ. Used to train in Judo when I was younger and I always loved rolling with others in the search for submissions.
Really miss training but unfortunately there are only 3 BJJ clubs in the country I am currently in ''''and they are all more than 150km far from where I live..

bjj, kickboxing, etc...
I'd take kickboxing over bjj anyday, except that in most areas of the states, BJJ is more plentiful and higher quality than kickboxing. So I go with bjj. Not currently training though. Want to start back soon.

i love bjj. im an older guy and got into martial arts in the early 80's as a kid with black belt theater sunday afternoons.my mom would take me to the local cinema to see the bruce lee movies they replayed. must have been 82 or 83. the progression was to american ninja and sho kosugi movies. my obsession with this crap led me into bushido classes, american boxing and gymnastics. from there i worked on thai ,kung fu,wing chung, wushu, shotokan and judo. next came bjj under machine lober , an ex mma guy from way back. i ended up rolling with tons of dudes over the years. sciatica put an end to that. lately ive been working out and feeling better, but no way could risk being laid up for a month again. fedor is #1 .

Is it Capoeira? How did it evolve in that part of the world?
here's an extremely abbreviated history....
It evolved from judo. A Japanese guy named Mitsuyo Maeda traveled the western part of the world trying to spread the art of judo and he eventually settled in brazil and opened a school. He taught his judo to carlos and helio gracie. Helio was a very small man so he had to refine the techniques to use more leverage and angles. Then he and Carlos taught it to their sons and the rest is history.... something like that...

the only martial art worth learning??
If you think that any martial art is superior to all others, then you have alot to learn. I've spent about 15 years practicing a certain martial art that I used to consider the best and only after really studying theory and being able to have a more philosophical view on martial arts did I realize that there is no "best style". To think so closes your mind to all the others and puts huge limits on what you're able to learn.
I have a lifelong love for the martial art that I practice, the name or style doesn't matter to anyone but me. I used to be of the opinion that all other martial artists were wasting their time by learning other forms, but it was just me being arrogant. To me, it would be the equivalent of saying a certain strain of weed is the best ever and growing/smoking all others is a complete waste of time and anyone who does so is a moron.
Don't mean to rant, or imply that the OP is narrowminded in that sense. In my experience though, a very high percentage of martial artists are arrogant like that and it's sad to see. I'm just trying to relay what I feel is the most important thing I've learned, and that's respect for all other martial artists. (even the ones that think they're learning a better style)
Don't get me wrong though there's nothing wrong with loving and supporting what ever style you take with all your heart. To limit yourself into thinking that you're better then a "karate guy" or whatever can really hold you back, and segregates the martial arts community as a whole.
on the flipside though, there are alot of watered down styles emerging...everyone trying to be like bruce and start their own shit, trying to make their mark on the world or w/e. The evolution of martial arts is a great thing, but to whore a bunch of styles together and call it something new.....well.....if anyone out there is looking for a style, then watch out for the "fakers" that are teaching their "new and improved version" which is composed of every 6 month introductory self-defense class they've ever taken.
hahah martial arts- the only other thing I'm passionate about besides weed

Anybody here ever hear of Kung Fu San Soo. It's based on five families. It's considered to be 1000's of years old.
Tsoi Ga- Striking
Loi Ga- Balance
Hoi Ga- Accuracy
Fut Ga- Psychology
Hung Ga- Physical
I am also trying to make a Makiwara, which is a tapered 4x4 that you strike, it's been proven for hundreds of years to strengthen the bones, ligaments, joints, and to develop focus, which to me is part of Fut Ga family. I also want to start sparring for reflexes and to refine my blocking techniques. Also, I hope to get a book a Col. Rex Applegate, who wrote a book Kill or Get Killed for WWII Commandos. I do want to get into BJJ, but for Self Defense.

Huge emphasis on BJJ but no belt system which I liked a lot actually. Can't wait to start training again. :)

I signed up for a taekwondo class in college but dropped the class after the first day. The first position they taught was the riding horse stance. I automaticaly figured out if I ever tried to use that unbalanced stance in a fight I would get taken off my feet quick. It is so unbalanced side to side your good but front to back no stability. The punches they taught had no power. It was all snapping back one first as you struck with the other. My years of boxing in the army taught me you want to put your whole shoulder into a punch while protecting yourself with the other hand. So when the first thing they had me do was stand feet shoulder distance appart with fists up side down at my hips I new asian martial arts were not for me. All of my fights have been over within a minute or two. Hay makers jabs slams kicks and bites. Throwin down is 90 percent drive and only about 10 percent of fighting can be taught. asskickers are mainly born that way.
