well this is gonna be a test run on a small scale for now
this is what i did ,i took a rubbermaid tub (small1) and i put 2 air wands in the bottom

my air pump has 2 hoses coming off it to the wands, i took 2 small pots and drilled a bunch of 1/4 " holes all over and put them in the top of tub after cutting the holes in the top of course DOH

Two weeks is good I usually give it till the 4th node or so. What nutes you gonna us? PBP is pretty fool proof in hydro if not AN would be great. It does'nt get any simpler than DWC either. The golden rule of hydro is PH stability. Keep that in check along with res temp and there's no missing. Good luck. Let us water growers know if ya need something.

Hydro's so simple you'll wonder why you didn't switch sooner. Nice DIY system. Like B-man said, just watch the ph and temp. I usually go about two weeks with plain water, as soon as they start showing a slight def that's when I hit 'em with a 1/4 strength nute mix, then go from there.

Hi Chucky! :wave: Good luck with your hydro experiment! My :2cents: to share - I use a very small submersible pump & attach a drip line to it. I find it will circulate your nutients more & keep your medium moist. This is especially helpful when your starting your DWC with seedlings or newly rooted clones. The water level is not as much an issue this way also. If you feel the pump might be heating up your rez, you put a small frozen water bottle in the rez to cool down. I haven't had any problems though. I do use the air wands as well, in addition. Hope you have fun!

Hey Chucky, you go boy in the water..........once you get hydro dialed in, you are in for a treat.
The way I tell when I need a refresh or a top-off is when after filling resivoir, ph and ppm will jump around for a bit, then settle to hopefully around 800 ppm during veg, and around 1200ppm during flower.
What happens is after the plants have sucked all the goodness out of the juice, the ph tends to drift, and your ppm will start to jump higher......this means it is time to add some fresh juice for the girls. This is only after system has been running and ph and ppm have been steady during flooods. Here is every 3-4 days to top off. I try to empty res and refill every other week with fresh water and nutes.
I got a Hanna dual meter continious meter, ph/ppm-tds, it ran me $200, but without it, getting the ph or ppm right would be very difficult. You are going to have to spend the money to get quality tools. It makes things much easier.
There is no more dirt in this house, and I don't miss it!

Cal-Mag is a nice supplement...also by the makers of PBP...

you can really go nuts with the additives... :wink:

the diamond nectar (or any fulvic acid) will help, too -you can foliar feed all your plants with it.

Chuck get you some Liquid Karma. It has plenty of the Micro/Macro doohickies. I use it for seedlings up till the need more N then give them the Grow Fert. Since you said your using Tap water the yellowing is definitely from the PH drift. I would normally say the MG is out of wack but Tap has that added into it already. Just remember about Organic Nutrients that the EC/PPM are gonna be higher than the Chem nutes.
The main problem seems to come from the Small resevoir you have. Which makes PH drift a bitch to keep in order. The bigger the rez the better off you are.

Hey chuckyoufarley, the deal with hydro is either bad ph or bad ppm...too high/low.....my suggestion is flush with straight H20....2-3 days hope to see new growth looking much better. I think you have too high a level of nutes.....clear the rez and start with fresh H20..........let them run a day or 3 with just straight water.....then dump res....add fresh again....and very, very little bit of nutes.....run 2-3 more days that way....and they should be back to full on. Lets hope. Too little is way better than too much in hydro....plants can get along but if you overfert they go south quick.
Nietzke has a FAQ section over at OG which shows great pics and problems related to the particular leaf look. Very helpful.
Go easy with nutes/additives as most everything plants need is in H20....

Sucks to burn.. Believe me i know... Hey But they look like they have recovered.. Thats the nice thing about hydro you see it quicker than soil... And can combat it obviously quicker.. And change out the whole res and with soil much harder.. THats why i am hydro more..But am digging the soil. thing just things happen more slow and alot deadlier imo in soil.. Looking good though keep at it.. And change that rez every 2 weeks make it habit.. And i think the probs should go away.. i think i see more probs with DWC hydro then the others Mut maybe im high.. lol.. Ihave used a constant drip feed system with the plants in the res.. And my PH drops only after about a week..
Then in my outfeed do hicky i drilled a hole to let water run thru that and move the water inthe rez and add o2.. And noticed my PH was not staying stable.. and bounced around a lil bit.. So that why i think it has to do with that.. But im not smart enough to figure it out.. Maybe someone can add to this and enlighten.. peace..

Hey Chuck,

I've had some PH problems with DWC. Not as bad as you've experienced, but this what I noticed. When you raise the Nutrient level up, the PH shouldn't drift as much. Early on with young plants or clones, I use a weak nutient level and I noticed I had to monitor the PH daily and make slight adjustments. Just a little more babysitting in the beginning. I'm no expert...just sharing my experiences and I'm goin DWC with PBP as well. Looks like your on your way to a full recovery. Take care & good luck.

well i inherited a plant today it is a clone from a clone that i gave someone
1 1/2 yr ago and he made a mom and handed out clones flowered the mom and his crew gave him back a clone 1 1/2 months ago and this is it i have to get her back to white roots i think, she's been in just 2gals water with weak nutes since he got her .look how big the stem got .

Sorry for being away chucky but have been working on my new room. Understand pbp is a great nute but you also gotta use (well at least I highly recommend) Liquid Karma and Cal Mag is a plus as well. I've even use Hydroguard and A little Silica Blast to complete the Biotanicare food regimate. In the year I've used all of these together I have had fantastic results but as I said I use them all but I must say if you don't want to use them all Cal Mag is a must at least get this one. Hope this helps. I'll keep an eye out this time.

Thats what I do Chuck. I keep a good eye on the rez the next 12 hours to see if any fluctuations are going on. Beyond that...... Sucks your having these problems. It's a cakewalk after everything is dialed in. Good Luck

mix the nutes seperately into a 5 gallon bucket full of water to your desired levels and fill your res with that, you don't want to mix raw nutes together before they are diluted, as it may cause chemical bonding and nutrient lockout.

Also, do your PH corrections after you have mixed and added all the nutes. They have their built in PH buffers that attempt to hold the nute mix to a certian level.

With your girls being this big Chuck you should be using atleast 1/2 oz per gallon of pure blend veg. It's organic and the buffer does work once adjusted. I've found that using ph up and ph down will kill the buffer. You will see the results of the cal-mag right before your eyes. I've noticed you also are gonna use the Silicia Blast? if so next run use it from the start,it helps get your girls strong and healthy and ready for the heat if that does become a problem. ThCaeser and Blatant are both spot on with their advice as usual. You will also find that a good dose of Liquid Karma thrown into the mix will do wonders as well.

These shots are a week old. I run Pure Blend Pro Veg,Blast Off,Liquid Karma,Cal-Mag and Hydroguard it cost a little more to use it all in buckets but you to will see there is not an easier way to grow than the total Bio Line of nutes. Good Luck Chucky.

Hell yes chucky they are in fact sucking up that cal-mag as we speak. When you added it did you sit back and watch the leaves change? But chucky I'm telling ya you gotta try the Liquid Karma It flat out is one of the best additives ever. i wont troll your thread but take a look at my buckets with the full line of Biotanicare food regimate. My girls went from babys to 2 foot in 21 days this stuff works wonders and is very forgiving when you screw up. Can't wait to see the fruits of your labor, I myself will be flipping on Thursday and will keep an eye peeled for your frosty BUDS.

Hey Chuck, whats happening friend.
My motto when growing is: If its not broke, don't fix it.
If you get good results with tap water....go with it, thats about as organic as you can get. Your tap must be heavy with metals, and other bs.
If you keep your ph around 6.0 +_ 0.2.....and tds around 600 for veg, 1000 for flower, you will never see another funky leaf....honest.
Folks are being overwhelmed with additives, boosters, and way way too much stuff for a simple weed. Keep it simple, less is best.

i went to the hydro store today and FINALLY got the silica blast and the liquid karma
and while there in line the guy in front of me is buying these big ass containers of ADVANCED nutes and while the counter dude is writing up the reciept who strolls in the door but LEO just 1 but 1's enough in a hydro store anywho he starts talking to the owner of the store and just general BSing
and he's checking out my tattoos and me and at what im buying and then looks at what the other guy is buying and his eyes are a lil wider now so the other gut walks away from the counter im over in the isle so he comes over by me and im like (in my head ) get the fuck away from me i not with the guy buying industrial size jugs of nutes and with the amount that shit cost the cop prolly was like yeah right you spend that kinda money on growing veggies so any way all went ok iguess nobody followed me out or home so it worked out just a lil sketchy for a few minutes ,and the other guy looked like he just shit his pants when that cop walked in

Chucky, mad props to you for finishing up your first hydro grow with anything that resembles pot. I killed more great genetics getting hydro to work.

This tale of LEO in the dro store has my bladder about ready to leak! I would reconsider going there again, IMO. 77hydro is a nice mail order firm with all the bells and whistles(thanx Smokey) .........my .02, but go with your gut....

all right guys and gals a lil help .i have a 10 gal rubbermaid tub for DWC the clones came from a mature plant(blue moonshine,apollos trip )the white lil nubs are starting to show roots .i need to know from the PBP users how much i should mix for newly rooted clones ,i hve PBP grow, PBP bloom ,cal-mag,liquid karma ,and silica blast .how much of each for a weak solution ,i just wanna get this right i already did 1 practice grow but still need alil help

REMEMBER! Heat s the enemy! :dueling: After a couple of failed but saved attemtps (putem in soil) in the summer, I decided to wait until the temps dropped and :woohoo: SUCCESS!!! I've never seen growth like this. Hereis the excact setup I built http://www.overgrow.com/article.php?articleid=12 I did 7 bubblers in a circular setup. Here is a pic of them (clones) at 2.5 weeks veg, 2 days after they went into the 36 hour dark to start the flowering.

The lighting is a little wierd because the hps just kicked on. They have exploded in the last couple of days. I you like the smaller set-up your working with now you may want to consider this. :canabis:

I've got 3 projects going now myself. I dragged the moms out for a photo shoot the other (day 32 day flower in dirt), http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=18941 , The strange thing is that the DWC clones are about to overtake the moms in size. I have NEVER seen anything grow this fast. Some of the fans are the size of cereal boxes :yoinks: If it wasn't for the summer heat, I would probably do nothing but DWC year round.
