Germination of seed: A proper soil or medium is chosen for the seed. Seeds do not need to be placed in wet paper or wool they can be placed directly in the medium. The medium is watered from the bottom allowing the medium to soak up the water as needed. The seed is placed half of 1 inch in the medium or around 1cm in depth. The medium is not packed hard around the seed, let it fall into place. Good viable seeds should pop up through the medium with in 24 hours. Temperature should be around 70F-85F degrees, humidity should be 100% (after 3 days at 100% humidity seeds are prone to root rot therefore diminishing there growth rate).

Seedlings: There are many ways to give seedlings the light they need so first we will talk about the environment of the seedling garden. Humidity should never be above 72% because of root rot and mold. Ventilation is a must you don’t need much, but you do need some, it is also important not to let the tops of the seedlings whip in the wind. The plants need a breeze but not a hurricane. As for lighting it is easy to use cool white fluorescent bulbs. These come in many sizes from tubes to bulbs. For small private scale gardens 25 watts of cool white fluorescent per plant should be used. Bulbs or tubes should be placed 1-2 inches, 2.5-5cm from the tops of the seedlings. No ferts or nutes should be used in the first 5-7 days in a soil garden, in hydro seedlings should get ferts after day 3 if they show signs of deficiency. After seedlings have been transplanted into vegetative growth they should be ferted, naturally or chemically at a weak strength, 30-50% of normal dosage if using chemical ferts. Slowly upping the dosage every time you fert.
