Hello everyone I know and don't!,

I have a Cali Orange that's about to finish, she's at 70 days flower, cannot support it's colas, and has about 10% cloudy trichomes. I think I'll let her go another 7 days or so.

BUT my Question Really is,

żżż Should I Give her a LONG DARK PERIOD??? 48hrs, 90hrs ??????
If so, how would this help?

Thanks,

BCoco

from what iv read this incresses the amount of resin on the outside of the bud, weather or not it makes it more potent im not sure... I would guees that it would'nt because the resin is all ready in the bud.

But what do i know i'v never tried it.

Eggy

Ps 70 DAYS man that longer thani was expecting... Im growing Cali orange too.

id just hang it in the dark to dry if i were you , from what ive seen your buds will become stickier as they dry anyhow , cant see how a dark period s gonna help improve when its best to pick a plant on a sunny hot day when the resin is almost dripping , ive also noticed that hot days and cold nights will seem to improve the resin content and make them stickier and glisten more ...

I tried to post pictures to show you gus but the 250k limit makes it difficult to use the same pictures I use in OG (I already changed camera setting to take smaller pictures beacuse making them smaller later is very tedious) so until I resize them here is the link to my photoalbum

Big Eggy: WAIT!!!! hehehe. if you're growing Cali Orange youll see that at 60 days they look very done but one look with the microscope and ALL CLEAR, the trichomes that is. until day 70 they started turning! (but that's my pheno, and the microscope makes cut decision)

Dobie Jaws: 72 days now, I'm loosing my patience but not so much beacuse at 65 days I cut 10 little popcorn size nugs from the bottom like the one on my photo album. And just yesterday they were dry enoug to
try and Mhhh, Mhhhh. very tasty, instant high, combination of body and heady but more head, hehe, head. But, it doesnt last so long (all transparent trichomes)

Wally: on a sunny hot day! most say that it's better to pick after the dark period, that that's when it's more resiny. Now Im confused cuz well, your "Kcuacks" really count to me.
I'm sure you've read about that dark period thing too somewhere, and other breeders strongly recomending.
Could your case be different beacuse you Ducks grow outside and you benefit from UV rays?, WHICH are Known to promote resin production.
My 270watt HPS SonAgro could harldy hive a hint of UV.

so i'm still pondering: To Darken or Not to Darken, That is the Question.

why don t you try a few with the darkening period and a few without , see what ya come up with and if you find a noticable difference , spose its hard to be too scientific without being able to measure ... taste is high on the list for me , wonder if itll affect that at all ... be cool to hear about your findings when you decide which way your gonna go ...

Well, They're at 83 days now and STILL NOT DONE. So we all have to wait. Not a single Amber trichome in sight and only about 50% cloudy. soooo, I'm gonna wait till about 95 days, witch I know is Ridiculous but then again, I'll cut her after I get back from my 10 day vacation in Playa del Carmen near Can Cun, heheeheee,
talk to you later guys!

you would want to harvest early in the morning....before the lights come on,or right after they come on.....

the sun degrades the flower throughout the day especially at it's peak hours i.e. = "Noon",and when it begins to cool down the flower "builds" up again hence better harvesting in the "morning"

not only have i seen this in "indoor" and "outdoor" specimens.

there is also an article floating around on it ;)

goodluck,Cali O's cut at 70 days were perfect...but mybe that was me own pheno

i dunno if anyone said this(didnt read whole thread heh) but UV also distroys THC so if you give it a 24 hour dark it can be slightly more potent but im not sure if you need a full 24 hour or if you could just harvest in the morning. I have yet to try this also.

HARVEST IN THE MORNING EH!

Not me !...no way jose....
the best time for harvest is right in the middle of the 12/12 ....i mean if your light runs say from 6am to 6pm ..then 12 midday would be the choice ...the Resins are at their peak temp ...the plant at its stickiest ....they are runny etc....harvest then.....
so that when u hang em upside down right away they are still very runny and gooey....

68day cali is good..but i let em twist an extra week
Peace!

Hiya !

As it happens, I'm growing cali-o too. Here's the scene: one female kept in a pot, about a meter high, flowered since beginig of august, so that's about 6 weeks. I try to keep it outside most of the time, but I lock it safely away whenever I'm away or at night time (I was robbed last year). When should I harvest?
