View Full Version : clone to mother, best way to prepare?

I was gifted a single Jack Herer clone and I wish to make it the "mother" for many future grows. I need it to produce clones of her own as fast as possible because in a week I will have nothing in my flower chamber. I have never cloned anything and have no experience with mother plants. I have some basic questions:
1) How should I train her to produce as many shoots as possible? I'm thinking FIM, but I guess any sort of training will produce more shoots. Which is best?
2) What size of container should I keep her in? I have a 1.7 gallon one and the other one I have I think is a 1 gallon. It's the container she's in in this pic of her:

id say flower her out, take another clone incase and veg thatone.
when you flower it out, leave some small bottom buds, reveg her, shell have a thick stalk and the reveg will be realy thick and bushy, creates a bonsai in afew simple steps.
then put that vegged clone into the flower cab while your mom now revegs.
keep the clone in a small container while it vegs for 2 months and it wont get out ofhand.

Wow, that's a great idea.

revegging will take you a good 6 weeks w/ lights on 24/7 to get it back to veg mode and not be retarded.
why don't you top the plant at 4-6 nodes high to force the plant to bush producing 2-4 tops. in a week or 2, take those tops as clones and flower the donor.
or there are a million other ways to do it too.... pretty much all of them will work, too.

check the topic below this called the reveg thread, took my reveg 2 weeks till it was able to have clones taken, in under a month she was a fullblown bonsai.

I'm yet to try any of these techniques, but I think on balance taking a mother right through flowering and then revegging - this will give you the best idea of which to keep as a mother in the case that you have more than one clone to start with? (so to select the best from 4 lets say)?

well generally i revegged clones, so they were all the same genetic make-up, i just chose the one that grew the thickest and healthyest stalk.

Do what Ya said Ya wannet to in the first place. FIM her soons Ya can. Theres no need to see what it can do. Its a clone of proven genetics. Let her get mabey 4 or 5 nodes and fim her real good. You can take your first cuts from the lower nodes after the fim dose its thing. That'l influince her fim to ezplode even heavier. Fimmin's the shitt! In the future you can even cut fim cuts into your future cuts a couple weeks before you cut them. Then youl have fimmed clones to put into your flower room. Root the fimmed cuts and veggem for a couple weeks and youl have pre fimmed clones to put into flower too.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
HairlessCaveApe, I do not appreciate the trolling.
At any rate, my seeds arrived from SBay, to my surprise (24 days after posted shipping date) so I have all the babies I could ask for. I'll grow her SOG style and save her as a momma. BTW, it took my reveg about 3 weeks to be ready for flowering.

if you don't mind retarded single blade leaves then yeah by all means start taking cuts at 2 weeks. i don't like taking cuts from plants "in transition" because they still need to fully revert. mine looked "retarded" for about 6 weeks.
HCA knows whats up...

No you're right, I'm sorry.
I was a little toasted last night and when I was having a hard time reading your post I thought it was a cruel joke, that's all.
EDIT: actually what you said is starting to make sense and it's a pretty good idea. Are you saying I should fin the shoots that resulted from the first FIMed node, and then use those as the clones? Not a bad idea at all...

Blessins on Ya CA! Yea Fimmins the shitt! And Ya shure can pre fim your future cuts. You can multycola sog streachy stuff. I started doin it with Lavender and I liked the results. Id do it again if I ever ran something strechy again.

best way for that clone is LST, tie it down and let the nodes grow out. fiming will slow it down too much.

Im with Harry and greyskull, FIM or maybe LST or Topping
but for me Reveg just takes too long and is too risky, a lot of those revegged plants can herm and cause problesm. Although Ive heard it works for others. I think the previous mentioned ways are more reliable.
