What's new

serious wilting after root aphid treatment

yesterday i decided to use 1 tsp of rosemary essential oil and some dish soap in 5 gallons of water to treat the root systems of plants in RDWC for root aphids. for 30 minutes each plant sat in this solution and it definitely cleared most, if not all of the aphids out. everything was fine by the time i went to sleep.

problem is, today i checked the room and they are all seriously wilted. tops hanging over like i supercropped, lower branches drooping and aside from the treatment, i can't think of anything that would be wrong.

the roots definitely don't look as healthy after the treatment. sort of brown so i added some h202 to keep things clean.

is there a chance the treatment seriously damaged the root system? i changed the system out and started with fresh nutrient solution at about 550ppm, up from 350 where i was seeing slight deficiencies.

pH fluctuates between 5.9 and 6.1 most days. only running maxibloom and general hydro's cal-mag. any insight?

Sounds like your plants are headed for DOA stage.

DWC is tricky...when it's good, it's wonderful!!

Problems....they hit you like a brick...and quick.

Good luck trying to revive them w/ CPR. or learn from your mistake(s) and scrub down, try again.

bummer. i appreciate the input. i guess for now my plan is to keep lighting low, temperature ideal, take PPM back down to 350ish and try to foliar feed while the roots do their best to recover.

anything that might help aside from resting and avoiding any more stress?

I would raise the lights, maybe use t5s or cfls, keep humidity high and lower nutes. Give em 4-5 days to pop back, otherwise replace em.

30 minutes may have been a bit much, I would also leave out the dishsoap. Keep an airstone or two in the oil solution as well.

thankfully the plants bounced back. i kept light very low, 1 23w cfl for a 4x8 tent and humidity around 60%, started with fresh nutrient solution and added a root stimulator/sterilizer to the system.

it's only been 24 hours after adding dutch master zone and already the roots are whitening back up and making new growth.

if anyone chooses to use this treatment, omit the soap, add an air stone, soak for about 15 minutes and make sure to rinse the root system out really well before going back into the system to avoid stress.
