Is my BHO getting better?

I've made BHO a few times and I wanted to present the results to this forum, in hopes of getting some feedback. Mainly I want to know if there's anything else I can do to make it better

All were done using the Turkey Baster method in my sig, but I'm always on the search for ways to make it better!

Looks like its getting worse to me imho. Is the second and 3rd still runny after evap? 1'st looks the best, 2nd looks second best, 3rd the worst lol? Could possibly be lighting at the time that the pictures were taken, but generally all the dank oil ive made is usually a lighter color. Yellow or redish and crystally at 80f and cooler. Very easy to handle also.

This is just my humble opinion.

I bet its still dank!!

Thanks for the feedback. The first picture is after a couple days of drying (and rolling into a ball), the second and third pics were taken while still wet.

I've noticed that using a pin to scrape instead of poking bubbles is what causes the grimey coloration on the second run. Also, the third run is definitely the darkest run I've had, but it's a new strain too.

How do you purge? Possibly the reason its still runny is because it still contains some butane?

That butane no offense looks like crap. You are not doing something correctly in the purge. Are you possibly chopping up your material finely before doing your runs?

I'd hit all three!

I haven't done alot of butanic extractions..but I know that with dry sift, the high and the impact is greatly affected by purity. Triple sifted blonde "putty" will zing your forehead while second run sift from the same plant contains alot more contaminant and gives a more stonier, duller high that doesn't last near as long, the different is chaulk and cheese....is butane the same? with all things being equal in terms of clone and harvest times etc would Capn's bho have a much better high, impact and duration than oldschoolfarmer's bho?, or would it be subtle and hard to tell as oldfarmer's looks pretty good to me but would capn's taste better?

I purge using a heat pad for about an hour. It takes a day or two to completely dry out because of where I live (it's always cold here... talking 40F outside).

chubbynugs - My first try was with whole trim, the second and third were with powdered trim.


So tips for the next run:
Use whole trim and/or bud
Leave it on the heat pad for additional hour

Another advice is

- to buy high grade butane , like " Vector " ...
- no real need for grinding your plants , just take em apart and clean from parts with no resin [ stems , fan leafes .... ]

exactly what I'm hoping to achieve. I did another run today (prior to reading your post ), and while I think it turned out better;
i'll be ordering some vector for my next round.

I used dried whole buds, and purged over a new and larger heat pad. It looks runny cause I just scraped it, but it is now
very hard and easier to handle.

There you go dude that is already looking better. I love how in one day you have improved your end product. Finely chopped trim imo seems to give you that darker oily nastiness. I get fully dried trim and nugs and very lightly press on it while it is still in the bag. You dont wanna make runs with powdery looking material. You will get leaf matter for sure. Also another thing that works for me is fully purge your bho and then let it cool down to room temp. Then once it has dried out and is not runny from being warm start doing your scraping. It will be way harder scraping this way but the bho will scrape up hard and crystally. Also you can lick your thumb and pointer finger and pull it off the razor with your fingers at this point and then just drop your crystal shard in your jar for later use. Oh yeah and like said above vector is the best butane i have seen around.

Looks alot better. My only advice is to maybe use something that gets hotter to purge. My best results have been using the double boiler technique. Glass pie pan ontop of stainless steel pot filled with some boiling water. just try to sustain the boiling and wait for the butane to evap. I can do a liter in about an hour and a half.

This tube-type direct flow extraction is not complete,
butane washes a clear-way and leaves blind areas full of glands where calyxes are in dense contact,
especially on first grade run when whole buds and clusters loaded.

1.Keep an oilcake for second grade run.

2.Look at another bho technique

... All you need is a stainless steel thermos (vacuum) flask and you'll be able to extract with butane for 2 hours or more, comfortably. The thermos flask has a vacuum between an inner and outer wall, which insulates the butane from external temperatures and keeps the butane in liquid phase for hours. See my old thread below for more details. I would generally recommend doing a quick wash with butane first, to extract the lightest BHO. After which point, you can do a second extraction with butane for an hour or more, to extract every morsal of cannabinoids.

3.Use ethanol/pga/everclear if you want to make bho more optically clear.
