What's new

ACETONE is WIDELY used as an ORGANIC solvent.

People can make it as simple or as complicated as they like.

I feel you but thats what a thread starter is for. This is a fairly simple method for someone to use or not to use. A thread about how to do it another way is the way to go. I like to keep it simple and it would be nice if this thread stays pretty simple. And you are 110% right about how someone can make it but that is not what this thread is about so lets just leave it at that bro. Good day,Whoman

I don't agree Whoman. People should be free to mention connected but slightly off topic things in passing. Hydro-soil brought up how acetone extracted excess wax and I corrected him by telling him that it is actually non polar solvents like butane that extract the most wax, briefly mentioning how to remove wax from oil. That is how conversation naturally flows and remains productive. It would have been left at that if you hadn't interjected. Let's leave it at that and the thread will continue on it's coarse.

I found some lab grade acetone..

Made me some hash oil from a Indian Sativa Landrace.... :joint:
Extracted it for 10 seconds.. froze the acetone before hand..

turned out alright, BHO is better :dueling:

Very nice Osirica, glad to see others thought it was worth a shot, it looks good, of course BHO is better BHO is top of the line it's better then ISO too but that's not what this thread was about. Great stuff how'd it smoke?

That's cleaner than what you'll find on a store shelf but far from medicinal quality. Unless it's pharmaceutical grade, this is dumb.

It's amazing what damage people do to themselves when they don't understand.

Let's see what dumb must mean then.

http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/chemistry/solvents/acetone-center/specification-comparison.html

What that is, is minimum specifications for lab grade acetone, from a large chemical distributor and manufacturer's catalog. Actual analysis will show lower impurity.

See anything else listed on a hardware store acetone MSDS even? Water maybe?

The company that I work for buys acetone by the truckload weekly, and I'm looking at the COA they give us for it, which has data similar to the link. COA's are not quantitative analyses of minor contents, but do quantify the product and specified contaminants. I doubt they make a lower grade than what we buy, it's just a cheap solvent of low toxicity and acceptable fire risk to us. The COA says that it contains 99.8% acetone, 0.2% water, and 0.02% methanol.

Now show the damage done to your lungs and other body organs, over time, by the 'minute' amounts that persist in your finished product. (Regardless of 'filtering') Clue: They're not harmless

Will using it kill you or make you 'obviously' sick? No. Is it a contaminant that you could do without for a buck or two? Definitely.

Like I said. Dumb.

I'm unsubscribing from this thread. Anyone with any sense will be able to read and make their own decision. Do what you will.

I hear tales of these dangerous impurities from people who apparently know all about them, but I don't recall anyone deigning to share with us what, exactly, these are. Or share their evidence that "lab grade" or hardware acetone contains them in dangerous amounts.

There are two major processes for making acetone, and the COA figures that I gave are from the dirtier one, the cumene hydroperoxide process, which starts with benzene. Benzene is one of those things popular with chemophobe types. This product contains 9 ppm benzene. Let's see...a whole gram of a product containing 5% remaining solvent containing 0.0009% of benzene...that's less than half a microgram. 0.00000045 g. Less than in your soda or a slice of a banana.
