Yes, you will need to adjust the ph level of the water and nutrient you put into the coco. I have never tried to measure the ph of the coco itself, but maybe someone here has.

I water with a ph of 5.7 for my situation, but you'll find a range of 5.5 - 6.0 from other coco growers I believe. Measuring the run-off can be useful in diagnosing or preventing problems. Usually the run-off has a higher ph than what you put in.

Hanna meters will work to measure the ph of the water you put into the coco or that comes out of it. With a meter that measure the ph of water/nutrient solutions I don't think you will need to check the ph of coco itself, if you even can. Maybe a soil ph tester would work?

would ph up and down work or is there another way to do this ?

Ph up/down to adjust ph - simple.

Lemon juice and backing soda can be used if going Organic, but they don't hold the ph well.

One or two drops of PH up or down will change the PH a couple notches, dont use too much because the stuff is really strong, just a few drops is enough to change it from 4.8 to 6.0 per gallon.

for example 5ml of ph down will decrease a gallon of water from 8.3 to 7.0
my tap is 8.3 so very familiar with down lol...

Exactly..U answered yourself...Look aruond on ebay..I've bought my hanna ph tester and milwukee ec tester there..Remember that an EC tester is useful too...

For going down the PH i've bought Bionova Ph down and Up (2 bottle of one lt each)

Also remeber that there are two types ones with replaceable probes and ones without.....if you buy one without you wont get as long of a life out of it but can prolong it by keeping a wet cotton swab at probe when not in use....also buy calibration solution so you know its accurate..good luck

I would assume u check ur ph no matter what medium u r growing in, but different mediums have different ph values. The last time i grew in coco my ph was locked in at 5.8 and had no probs at all.

coco should be 0.0 E.C and around 7 ph.

take 150ml of 0.0 water in a jug add coco till it reaches 250ml leave for a hour strain and measure it with pens
