5 Grape Ape 5 Purp Kush 2 G-13 COCO

This is going to be my first grow thread for everyones viewing pleasure. This is my first run with coco but I have grown hydro with hydroton,DWC and rockwool for years and years. I have already encountered some problems with my plants with the medium that I originally chose. I first had a great idea of using coco chunks by themselves to create unlimited air supply for the root system. I was running two drippers in each 3.5 gallon bucket. That plan failed :bashhead: , well I shouldnt say it failed but in order to keep the medium wet enough I had to use ridiculous amounts of water which in turn meant I had to use a ton of nutes which was costly. After fooling with that medium for about a week and a half I decided to change mediums. I made the change to regular coco coir with 1/3 pearlite for drainage. The plants suffered a little stress from the transplant but I can already see that they are loving the new coco coir alot better. :muahaha:

I am currently at about day 11 on the veg cycle. I feed House and Garden at 750 ppm and 5.8 for the ph. I am adding some calmag plus at half strength
cause I noticed some lower leaves starting to lighten up in color. After I started adding the calmag the leaves returned to normal. I am planning on giving them about 2 more weeks in veg to get some decent size plants. I am looking for a little over an ounce a plant. heres some pics any questions ask away Im sure I left a ton of info out.

these are pics with the old medium and cal deficiency I will add current pics in my next post

Hey dhf!

Hey dhf!

Hey Dhf I am having a little trouble with my watering schedule but I am adjusting it. Would you suggest one watering a day? I am a little frustrated  right know because just when I thought everything was going good I go to check on them and their leaves are drooping :fsu: like they have been overwatered so I Changed their waterings to one time a day. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. I am open to your suggestions.

I have changed just today to one watering a day when lights on for 3 minutes from open end 1/4 inch tubing.

Pics of plants today drooping

Its all coming together now

Its all coming together now

Ok finally heres some updated pics of the grow! Got every thing dialed in now as far as nutes and watering schedule. Here is the shedule the plants are responding to the best so far. :muahaha:

ppm 700 A&B House and Garden Aqua Flakes
3 ml a gallon of cal mag plus (790-820 ppm after adding the cal mag)
adjust ph to 5.9
3 ml a gallon House and Garden Roots Excel

One watering at lights on for 3 minutes gives me about 10% runoff and thats all they are getting for now. The Purple Kush seems to need more cal than the G-13 and the Grape Ape. I have had some problems in the beginning of this grow but everything is going good now and I can tell by the explosion of growth the last 2 days that they are loving everything I am giving em. I am thinking of flipping to 12/12 in the next couple of days after a little training of the branches to allow more light to penetreate. I also could veg another 2 weeks and then add my extra 1000 watter. I haven't really decided yet. I dont know any of these strains well. I am gonna give it some thought this weekend and decide. I am feeling pretty confident now for my first coco grow hope it go's smooth from here on out. Here is some pics of them today, I definitely am not a photographer but I will try and get some better pics of the different strains individually this weekend. Hope you enjoy! :joint:

Dude hey look really good and rather large so far! Good job, super healthy too seems you found your perfect schedule so far! I am happy to see you using the House and garden line, I use A & B plus algen extract, multi enzyme, and drip clean of course....Was using the shooting powder but I don't think it's very necessary. Well anyway I'll be around great work so far, can't wait to see some fat ass colas!!!

Using coco I've noticed my plants like getting watered every day and I only give nutes twice a week and that seems to be working well. Your's are looking much better in the last update yesterday from the drooping pic on the 10th. Good luck and I hope you get the yield you're thriving for. Be sure to check back soon.

Caligreen- whatsup dude glad to see you are rolling the h&g nutes also! they rock! I was still undecided about using the shooting powder myself. Have you tried it? What are your likes and dislikes about it? I have been researching the net looking for info about it from people who have experience with it but not many people seem to use it. Ihear it is kinda like Overdrive from advanced nutes.

RealSupreme- Lets hope we see some purple in awhile but for now I'll guess I will settle for really green. hehehe!

MorningGlory- Hey I bet your finished product has a nice taste to it using the nutes only twice a week. How is that working for ya on yield? Are you running into any deficiencies in the plants? What nutes are ya using?

bickeyb- You and me both! Its my first run with the ape lets hope she turns out nice and purple. Im sure she will with my harvest ending sometime in november or december. Cold Temps = Purple Bud :muahaha: HEheHEhe

will update pics tommorrow!!!!

Looking good gowanstar.
Once you get the coco rolling you'l love it.
Few Q's if you don't mind...
what are you using for lights?
how big are your pots?
I found that plants grow bigger in coco than you first think - I cannot wait to find out.

Hey Gowan.. nice to see that your plants turned around.

I've been having the same problem with mine. I wasn't sure if it was from overwatering or from the heat wave that just passed. It was in the 90's over here during the day and no ac. Not good.

I'm not really sure since I've never grown coco if I'm supposed to let it get dry. I was under the impression I wasn't supposed to but the drooping had me thinking over watering.

Then I flushed them with ph 6.0 water and checked the runoff. It was at 6.1 and ppm's were at 450. My tap water has 50 ppm. It seemed decent. Now though some of them have spots on them..although some seem to have bounced back.

So far I've been handwatering pretty much every other day. I'd like to set it up on a flood and drain (1) time a day and have it drain back to the resi, switching it out every 7 days. They're in 8" coctek pots.

I think I'll start adding the cal-mag though as I have it, but wasn't sure if the H&G A+B was sufficient one it's own. I have been adding cannazym and hydroguard though in slightly less than the recommended dosage.

Basically I just wanted to know if you were letting them dry out, or if you were just watering them right when the lights came on every day. My plants are about 6-10" tall right now.

Thanks

Oh yeah. I've used the shooting powder and I thought it was amazing. I definitely recommend it, although I never used it in Coco just in soil. It does seem to make a difference when you use a big boost like that and almost all of their products seem quality.

Thanks Gowan I should be getting a camera sometime this week so I'll take some pics. Will probably start watering once a day right when the lights come on and add the cal mag. Hopefully that will do the trick. :)

Greyskull - I am running a 1000 watt light on a light rail. The light travels about 20 inches back and forth over the plants and pauses at the end of each travel on the rail for about a minute. Im gonna flip to 12/12 and add my extra 1000 watt in a couple days because the growth has just exploded. My pots are 3 1/2 gallons. I went big as far as pots so I can grow some nice size bushes know what I mean hehehehe.

Abja Roots - I am not letting them dry out. I am watering as soon as lights come on for 3 minutes on an open end 1/4 inch drip line. My pots are 3 1/2 gallons and I have a 400 gph pump supplying my water pressure to the lines. This gives me almost a half gallon watering, and produces the amount of runoff needed for my pots. A good way to determine how much water you need is to water the plant until you get about 10% of the potsizes runoff. For example if I had a pot that was 10 gallons I would water until I got a 1 gallon of runoff. I would record how much water was needed to produce a 1 gallon of runoff. Then set your timer that controls the dripper pump for however many minutes it takes to reach that amount of water. My pots are large in size so I water only once a day, not only are my pots large but the root system is not fully grown, so its water uptake is not as great as it will be. As the plants grow so will its watering schedule. All these factors should be taken in to consideration.
hey post some pics of your plant with the problem so we can all see it and maybe someone knows what is the problem

I got home late and had to take these shots with the light on :fsu: but they came out alright I guess for being smoked when I took'em. The veg stage is kinda boring but I am gonna try and take some individual shots of the plants during flower for sure!! Maybe even put a cool background in the pics who knows, depends on what I'm smoking :joint: :muahaha:

Time for an update on my babies. They are doing great, the growth is nothing short of amazing! Purple Kush and Grape Ape are both slow growers but I cant tell. I am gonna have to tell my wife that I have found two new loves in my life, coco and House and Garden nutes! HaHa! I never had plants so lush green, bushy and just all around crazy healthy. I flipped to Flower on the 15th and am gonna add my other 1000 watt light as soon as I get the time. My goal is still an ounce a plant and I will be happy with that. I am thinking my next run is gonna be a bigger yielding plant than the purple kush or grape ape. I dont know much about the G-13's, I was given those but I know they are faster growing which is why I gave them some haircuts this morning to stop them from towering over my other girls. I am getting excited to see what coco is gonna do for the buds. I upped my ppms on my last nute change. The following is what they are recieving since i flipped'em to flower.

800 ppm H&G a&b
120 ppm CalMag
That puts my ppm at 920
3.5 ml a gallon of multizyme

I have a 40 gallon rez that I top up with water only one time after the rez is half empty. When the rez is almost empty I swap with fresh water and nutes and do it all over again.

Looking very nice Gowan, just curious to see if you reduced your feeding level towards the end of your flowering cycle, did you add shooting powder ( if so how much? ) and did you flush or are you going to flush.

Hope it all looks great

H & G seems to be a quality line. I like them as well
